Sail and work experience David was practically born and raised on sailing yachts since the age of four and had logged over 200´000 nautical miles before deciding to join the industry as a professional. He has been captain on many well known sailing yachts since he was 23 and has a vast knowledge of sailing and cruising destinations throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean, United Kingdom and the East coast of the US and Canada.

Sailing from a young age Ed began working professionally on sailing yachts for the last 8 years. With a very varied scope of positions, yachts and waters, from a season with a 36ft foiling race boat in the Mediterranean to most recently skippering an Oyster 70 from France to New Zealand. He has clocked more than 25,000 nautical miles including two Atlantic and one Pacific crossing). This experience has given him a good knowledge for cruising many waters especially the central Mediterranean where he has spent several charter seasons.

He is responsible for navigation, safety, the overall running and financial management of the vessel, crew and guests. He ensures the safe and efficient operation of the yacht at all times, including compliance with all safety procedures and regulations. He takes care of adhering to flag regulations, port state and local laws and regulations, and manages the crew to ensure adherence to, and a full understanding of, the vessel’s policies. He provides daily leadership for the crew and encourages teamwork, individual growth and personal attention by delegating duties and supervising all crew tasks.
Licenses & Certificates • 2RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, Commercial Endorsement • OOW 500gt unlimited -GMDSS GOC (General Operator’s Certificate) • STCW Training – STCW Proficiency in First Aid.

Job description Primarily is responsible for maintenance and fault finding of all machinery and systems onboard. Having previously spent 2 seasons as Mate he also plays a critical part in the sailing and navigation of Dark Shadow. Given the size and nature of the yacht it is not out of the ordinary for him to be taking part in supporting his crew mates in their daily tasks. While personally enjoying various aquatic pursuits, Scuba diving, free-diving, wake boarding to name a few. He is also keen and able to assist guests in many water-borne activities.

Sail and work experience William has been working on board boats now for three years, prior to his time on Dark Shadow he worked as an RYA Cruising Instructor in Falmouth, Cornwall. During his time working on the water William has managed to amass 30,000+ sea miles cruising around a variety of areas such as; the Mediterranean, Baltic, Atlantic and all around the UK and northern France. William speaks English and Spanish fluently and has a basic understanding of Portuguese. Having previously worked in nice restaurants and beach clubs in Spain William likes to maintain a high level of customer service.

Sail and work experience Crystal began sailing dinghies at the age of eight and cooking with her Nana since before she can remember. After university she realized that with the proper courses she could combine the two and thus began her career in the large yacht world. She speaks English and basic Spanish. Over the last 8 years, she has clocked more than 100,000 nautical miles (including 2 Atlantic crossings) on sail yachts from 15 to 53 metres.

As first mate on board Dark Shadow William has to perform a variety of different roles and over the last year has proven himself to be a most versatile member of the crew. One minute he is flaking the sail and the next he is mixing up a round of cocktails for the guests, you may find him cleaning a cabin or preparing to drop the anchor down.

She is responsible for guest and crew meals, assuring a rich variety of food as well as making sure their living environment is clean and welcoming. She estimates food needs, reviews inventory assuring adequate supplies are available whilst adhering to budget and guests’ expectations. She carries out food service activities in order to have meals prepared at preferred times and makes sure to comply with health regulations. Thanks to her creativity, she develops new recipes and ways of serving food in order to satisfy different guests’ wishes. She also ensures that the food is relevant to the country being visited so that local cuisine can be enjoyed.
