THE BIG BUBBLE Alex de Witte
The Big Bubble has already become the icon in Alex’s oeuvre, since he first launched them in 2013. These light objects are all unique as they are mouth blown in the Czech Republic, always under Alex’s watchful eye. Alex is pushing the glass blowers to twist their skills further every time again, up until the very moment in which the Bubbles almost collapse. This requires a tremendous control of craftsmanship. As a designer it is his quest to try to influence the phenomenon of beauty being found in the beholder’s eye. He aims to play with general perception of beauty and to open up peoples minds in that process. Alex de Witte constantly forces his own perspective and consequently that of the beholder’s, by twisting the perception of shape and form. GRID SPACE DIVIDERS David Derksen
Nature, and especially the principles and processes that are found in nature are David Derksen’s main sources of inspiration. This results in a strong focus on materials, how they behave and how they can be constructed. According to David Derksen, producing objects is like playing with the forces of nature. In his designs he tries to express the beauty of the material and the way it is produced. Normally wood veneer is glued onto a cheaper wood, to decorate the surface. In this case the wood veneer of just 1,5mm has been used as a construction material. Such thin wood is best applied under tension rather then pressure and so it was decided to make hanging structures that function as space dividers. They can also hold several functional elements such as LED lighting or acoustic foam, adding functionality to them. The Grid Space Dividers can be adapted according to characteristics of the space and the wishes of the client.

TABLEWARE De Intuïtiefabriek
De Intuïtiefabriek is a designstudio with a vision based on their intuitive way of working in which the use of materials and techniques are essential. They bring them to create within different fields of design; from slipcasting porcelain to blowing glass and bending wood. The outcomes vary from furniture to tableware. To De Intuïtiefabriek designing is all about craftsmanship, the touch of material and the actual act of making things. Their aim is to create perfectly crafted products, from which you can feel the love with which they were made. They create a pure, precise and elegant feeling, taking the observer into a new world. Together with Zebedeüs, Just Haasnoot opened a cafe as an addition to his interior store in Wassenaar and De Intuïtiefabriek had the pleasure to produce all of the tableware for them. This includes some new items; a cappuccino cup and a latte cup, that make our collection of coffee cups complete. \\ Photo @Theobert_pot

FRESNEL LIGHTS Dirk Vander Kooij
Dirk Vander Kooij is a selfproducing design studio based in Amsterdam. In 2009 Dirk graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven (NL) with a giant robotic arm, designed to extrude large objects like furniture from recycled material, a world wide first. Ever since the introduction of this new technique, Dirk Vander Kooij has been creating innovative products with a strong visual impact. Circular design and the use of recycled materials is the core of Dirk’s work. In the design of chairs, tables, vases and light fixtures Studio Dirk Vander Kooij combines tradition and technology, craft and digital robot techniques. PLANKFURNITURE Floris Hovers
Sometimes a slogan such as ‘within limitations’ is useful to help design clearly. By making the material integral to the design, the construction characteristics evolve naturally. A chair ‘from a single plank of wood’ formed the basis for the first model - back-to-basics improvisation. The final result is the open Plankfurniture series: chair (1 plank), bench (2 planks), stool (1,5 planks), dining table (2,5 planks), desk (3 planks) and table (5 planks). The Bottleboats, the Stoklamp, Plankfurniture, Fixed chair and the now iconic series, ArcheToys. The designs of Floris Hovers - furniture, lighting and models - are surprising in their disarming simplicity. Not abstract minimalism, but the final result of a prolonged process of reduction. What remains is the essence - an almost cartoon-like composition of form, construction and colour. Achieved in an interplay between man and machine. Many of his products betray a somewhat naïve, playful approach. ‘My designs must be readable and recognizable’. \\ Photo Plankfurniture at Qbic Hotel London City

SCULPT LIGHT Handmade Industrials
Founders Rutger de Regt and Marlies van Putten met during their studies at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. They share the same interest in experimental design by process based principles. While Rutger is keen on social and inventive themes, Marlies is more poetic in her work as a designer. After an invitation to create a piece for a charity design auction, Rutger de Regt invited Marlies van Putten to join the project. This was the start of the collaboration that led to the founding of HandMade Industrials. Dutch high end retail chain De Bijenkorf asked Handmade Industrials to design lights for the the launch of the Concept Space in Amsterdam, as well as unique shaped lights for all the windows of the national ‘Make It You’ campaign. The Sculpt Light series consist of various unique lamps which are conceived by the use of a flexible mould and bio-degradable granules. The series is part of the ongoing Make&Mold project based on a patented single wall moulding technique.

EPS COLLECTION STOVES Klaas Kuiken
While visiting the factory of Lovink Technocast, Klaas Kuiken got fascinated by an iron casting technique called lost-foam casting (LFC). This technique is often used for the production of engine parts, and therefore remains completely invisible for most of the time. Klaas wondered: “Would it be possible to use LFC to create accessible and visually interesting products outside an industrial setting?”. And the answer is yes! We proudly present the EPS Collection: an intriguing collection consisting of wood stoves and clocks, all made at Lovink Technocast using the lost-foam casting technique. Klaas Kuiken’s products and designs arise from a fascination with the creative process and its influence on the final result. Even though Klaas is clearly a product designer, when busy in his workshop he’s more like a skilled craftsman and curious inventor. It will come of no surprise that the Discovery Channel TV show ‘How it’s made’ is one of Klaas’ biggest sources of inspiration. This program sparked a fascination for mass production and the question ‘what is the influence of mass production in relation to the identity of products?’ became a central theme in his work. \\ Photo at Mobilia, Amsterdam

HUES Mae Engelgeer
Mae Engelgeer’s work is characterized by a typical use of colour, geometric shapes and linear elements which is unmistakably hers. An eye for detail and sense of composition are important in her designs when it comes to introducing balance throughout a design. Her style has an open character that could be described as minimalistic with a playful twist. She cleverly combines craft, new technology and materials into beautiful textiles that enrich any home, without losing ground on refinement or quality. HUES is a serie of 6 different hand knotted wall pieces produced in Nepal. Subtile variations in hand knotting technique and the use of slightly differences in color tones end up in a minimalistic whole. The carpets can be selected piece by piece to create diverse compositions. \\ Photo Ben Lambers at Studio Aandacht

OBJET ÉLEVÉ Mieke Meijer
Studio Mieke Meijer is a collaboration between Mieke Meijer and Roy Letterlé. From their workshop in Eindhoven they work on self-initiated and commissioned projects. The works of Studio Mieke Meijer start from constructions and architectonic shapes to form alternate spatial structures where the interplay between space and its surroundings are central. The studio works within the liminal field between architecture and product design. This enables Studio Mieke Meijer to move freely, regardless of architectural restrictions and outside the boundaries of the traditional product. Objet élevé is an installation in three parts that functions as a connection between two floors while also offering space to work, collect and store. NERO LIGHTS Morgan Ruben
At a time when new products are being developed at great speed, old crafts are rapidly disappearing. This collection of lights was born of the designer’s wish to retain some of these crafts, while combining them with innovative developments in lighting technology. Geometrical shapes, angles and lines create a simple and clean visual identity, highlighting the beauty of the materials. Handcrafted oak wood, impregnated with India ink composed of black soot and shellac, gives the base a deep black color. The rods containing the lighting are of stainless steel polished to a mirror sheen. The lighting itself is LED and can be remotely changed in color. This allows a transition from the orange glow of sunrise to the cold bluish white of high noon, and all hues in between. The end result is a series of intelligent lights that can be adjusted to your mood or activity. Their minimal design makes them iconographic in form and color. \\ Photo Helio León at Princelet Street, London

MONO-LIGHTS OS ∆ OOS
Studio OS ∆ OOS tries to find the balance between form, material and their relation to the surroundings and the user. For the duo it is the constant search to find the essence in the complex that drives them, taking an initial concept and working it into an object that conveys only what is meant to. RE-VIVE RENS
RENS (Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren) is a research-based design studio. From Eindhoven (the Netherlands) the duo initiates projects in which colour often plays a key role. Can porcelain colour itself? What does it take to revive a collection of carpets? How do different types of wood react to paint, and can one’s life cycle be visualized in tapestry? The designers of RENS process the answers in highly expressive presentations and remarkable designs. Designer duo RENS present with DESSO, the global carpets company, a collection of rugs named ‘Re-vive’. In this special collaboration, the two designers work on the creative process transforming each individual rug into a new work of art, extending the product’s life. By using a manual dyeing process on the out-of-date collections, the carpets are re-coloured with red dye. \\ Photo Gilian Schrofer, Concern at Openbaar Ministerie

CEILING CAM FAN Rick Tegelaar
The camshaft is a mechanical element most of us use every day, but we almost never see. With a background in mechanical engineering Rick Tegelaar wanted to shed a new light on this technique, uncovering its elegance. As a material-oriented designer, Rick’s work is characterized by the use of very uncommon materials, finding new beautifully shaped forms with an innovative approach. Rick is interested in how things are made and which machines and tools are used for it. During his design studies he started developing his own processes and tools. The Meshmatics collection is a good example; The start of the project was one of the most banal materials he could think of: chicken wire. He built his own machine to form the chicken wire with precision: with an aesthetic and efficient structure as a result. \\ Photo CamFan at De Kazerne, Eindhoven

mr.knox 99,9% safe ‘mr.knox’ is a funny translation of a heavy steel vault into a smart and playful wooden piece of furniture. the cnc cut gears fit perfectly together which enables the closing system to work exact as its metal example. stephan siepermann often adds an extra layer of use, humor or social engagement in his creations. sometimes he does that by contradiction in the used materials, the form itself or its function and sometimes by clever or unusual combinations of one or more of these components. ‘House of Rolf’ is an ambitious transformation of a late nineteenth century coach house into a spectacular home and workspace. What is truly unique about this project is that all the materials used to carry out this transformation originated from a demolished office building that was located next to the coach house. \\ Photo Christel Derksen & Rolf Bruggink

VAPOUR LIGHT Thier&vanDaalen
The design studio is formed by Iris van Daalen and Ruben Thier in the Netherlands. They both share their fascination for light, geometric and organic shapes, together with the transience of nature. Over and over, they see it as a challenge to get hold of these phenomena and to abstract and translate them into new designs for lighting, furniture and accessories. By experimenting with different materials, techniques and research to explore the full potential, hands-on new projects and designs arise. The irregular shape of Vapour Lights found its origin by the fascination for movement of structures in nature and the contrast between straight and organic shapes. The way a flower blooms, how beautifully vapour grows up in the air or the hypnotising effect of rolling water. These movements are translated into a series of light objects, that can take a surprising appearance. Gracefully, it may take different forms and curves by pulling or twisting the flexible outer shell. The subtle emission of light appears on the pattern of the luminous bar. The flexible outer shell absorbs the light and glows out on its surrounding as a decorative lighting solution.

PICTURESQUE MIRRORS Tjimkje de Boer
Tjimkje’s inspiration mostly finds its origin in day to day scenes. While traveling, photography is the obvious and most important tool to capture these moments. Pictures enable you to relive them in a very detailed manner, they function as trigger point, in the beginning often nothing more than a visual ‘note to self’. A series of mirrors balancing on the fine lines between art and design. Without losing the original function of the mirror, the relation between the product and its surrounding is wholly redefined. The magic colour palette, which appears to be a puddle on the mirror, immerses reflections in an interaction of lustrous colours. The low viscosity of the epoxy gives the pigments free play. The process of pouring the colours over the surface of the mirror has created the illusion of these colours fusing in slow motion. The composition only allows limited direction and serendipity is the defining element in creation of the final result. Each product is unique and reproduction is impossible.

BESPOKE TRANSIENCE MIRROR Transnatural Art & Design
Light, interior and outdoor design are part of the collection, and all have an essential function and exceptional aesthetic. Next to ready made design products, engaging material concepts are a starting point and processed in all kind of in- and outdoor features. The designers’ production methods pay close attention to new, alternative energy and material resources. Transnatural explores ways how to (re-) design our living spaces so that humans, nature and technology can expand, enrich and feed each other. The Transience Mirrors designed by Lex Pott and David Derksen in cooperation with Nicemakers reveal different states of oxidation through an accelerated process. All mirrors are handmade and the oxidation patterns look slightly different on each piece. This roughness in oxidation and the clean geometrical aesthetics make each design mirror truly unique and beautiful. \\ Photo Hoxton hotel, Amsterdam

CURRENT CURRENTS VANTOT
VANTOT is the collective title for the works of Esther Jongsma and Sam van Gurp. The Studio Designs and develops works which include new experiments based on curiosity, context, graphical elements, new production methods, mathematics and physics. VANTOT based their collection on the idea that electric current is a fundamental part of our home interiors and appliances. It is often perceived as dangerous and, therefore, carefully tucked away into small boxes or thick, isolated cables. VANTOT takes a different approach by designing innovative, low voltage lighting objects that step away from the traditional concept of a lamp and a power cord. Instead, they design objects that and are fully conductive while safe to touch. Contemporary technologies, such as LED, are an important part of their design vision. \\ Photo Ventura Lambrate, Milan
