Cloudy2Clear, A Local Family Service With A Smile I think we can all agree that as the weeks and months go by and we move further away from a disastrous 2020, that we can once again start to feel optimistic about the future. Now we are hopefully ready to take on the remainder of 2021 both safely and positively. One thing is for sure though, there have also been some heart warming positives that we can take out of last year. It has often been said that we can only really get to know one another and realise what is truly important in times of crisis. I think few would argue that in this case what has proven to be important is local community and family spirit. When talking to Trevor & Wendy Skidmore the
owners of Cloudy2Clear Northampton & Oxford it became clear that these values have been held for over 13 years. Since buying the local franchise in 2006 they have remained true to their core values of supporting the local community whilst introducing their 2 sons Lloyd & Ross into the family business along with Dan, Mark & Jo as demand for their service has grown.

W h a t s h o u l d I l o o k fo r i n a c o nveya n c e r ? Buying or selling a property can be a stressful process, but there are some easy steps you can take to help to make the conveyancing process as smooth and as calm as possible. Reputation and client satisfaction Take time to research your solicitor or conveyancer. Recommendations by professionals, friends or family are a good starting point. Visit the solicitor’s website and if they have client testimonials, have a read through. Some firms have profiles, photos and contact details of their conveyancers, so you can be reassured who you will be dealing with. Law firms may also be accredited with The Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS), providing evidence of a recognised quality standard. Transparent costs Like with most services, you will probably want to get 2 or 3 quotes for your conveyancing work. Make sure you are comparing like-for-like quotes, that you see a breakdown of the fees and that these are
transparent and fixed from the outset. Regular communication Property conveyancing is often dependent on a ‘chain’ and complications can arise that may hold the process up, so it is important your conveyancer keeps you informed of developments as they happen. When choosing your conveyancer, check how they will be communicating with you, for example, ask if they have direct dial and email, and can you check the progress of your matter online 24/7. If you would like to talk to Spratt Endicott Solicitor’s team of property experts in Buckingham about buying or selling a property, please contact Abigail Grantham, Head of Buckingham office on 01280 730705 or email agrantham@se-law.co.uk.

Sing the summer blues...
There’s never a dull moment in the garden that’s for sure, writes Buckingham Garden Centre’s Chris Day! growth and encourage further flowers. Switching feeds is a good idea too. High nitrogen fertilisers such as Miracle-Gro can be alternated with high potassium feeds such as Phostrogen or any of the specific Tomato fertilisers available. By doing this you will help to encourage a further flurry of leafy growth which in turn will mean more stems and shoots to carry additional blooms later in the summer. Remember plants are just like us, a change in food doesn’t do any harm and it can be beneficial in the long term! Also, don’t neglect deadheading the flowers regularly. LAWNS Care of the lawn in June and July very much depends on the state of the weather. If it has been hot and dry, there won’t be much new growth, so set the mower blades high and leave the clippings to act as a mulch to preserve what little moisture there is. If the weather has been wet and growth generally lush, lower the blades and collect the clippings. Be on the lookout for weeds, especially in damp weather, and remove them as soon as possible. There is still time to apply a selective lawn weedkiller such as ScottsWeedol Lawn Weedkiller to eradicate difficult to control weeds such as Dandelion, Plantain and Self-heal. MUST-DO’S To protect them from the wind and rain stake any tall or top-heavy Dahlias (pictured) and Lilies. Even without winds, the weight of the flowers can easily snap the stems. There is still time to prune your

Wisteria by cutting all the whippy side-shoots back to five leaves from the main stem. ROSES Prune your climbing and rambling roses as soon as they have finished flowering. If they are repeat-flowering roses, they will produce a much better show through their second flush if they are pruned back a little by cutting back the stems that carried the first flush of flowers. Do make sure all pruned roses are given a generous granular feed such as Toprose or Vitax Q4 as soon as the plants are
pruned, then you should find strong replacement growth quickly developing, and after a few weeks a further flush of flower buds will be formed. HERBS Cut back herbs now to encourage a new flush of tasty leaves which you can harvest before the frost. If you have any Sage, Lemon Verbena, Rosemary, Thyme and Lavender and wish to have more plants, then now is the time to take semi-ripe cuttings. Use a peat-free compost with added grit and simply push the cuttings around the edge of a pot, allowing around 5-7 cuttings to a 13cm (5in) pot.

FLOWERS Keep cutting sweet peas to fill your house with scent and to keep the flowers coming on the plants. Remember they will benefit from a general plant feed applied along the base of the plants every 7-10 days. Sow biennials such as Sweet William, Bellis Daisy, Wallflower and Honesty (Lunaria annua, pictured). These can be sown directly into the soil in shallow drills 15-30cm (6-12inches) apart. The drills should be deep enough to allow the seeds to be covered with soil to about twice their size. Thin out once the seedlings are showing their true leaves. You can move these plants into their flowering positions around the garden from late September onwards. LOOK OUT for our newly created ‘wall’ of peat-free composts available in our Seasonal Tunnel. All the brands mentioned should be in stock but due to supply problems at the moment some may be temporarily missing. In view of the changing ideas on the use of peat, which have been highlighted recently by many bodies including the government, and in view of the improving quality and availability of alternatives to peat, we have created a wall of peat free composts to help you make better informed decisions when it comes to buying composts and soil improvers for your garden. The range includes New Horizon All Plant Compost (40-litre, £5.99, 2 for £10) Levington Multi Purpose + John Innes Compost Peat Free (50-litre, £6.99 or 2 for £12.00) and Levington Organic Blend Top Soil Peat Free (20-litre, £3.99) and Miracle-Gro All Purpose compost, 40-litre at £5.99 and Miracle-Gro Border Booster, 40-litre at £6.49. 20
Find us at yell.com
We also have an exciting new addition to our range namely Dalefoot Peat Free Wool Compost for Potting (30-litre, £8.99, pictured). This product is made from potash rich bracken with Herdwick sheep’s wool and comfrey all sustainably sourced from the Lake District. It is approved for organic growing. CHILD’S PLAY As the summer holidays approach keeping the little ones entertained, especially in the garden, takes some planning. If you are in need of some gardening projects then look no further than our activity sheets available to all our Junior Gardening Club members. You can join for free and we are adding to the gardening activities each month. Look out for our special display (pictured) in the Shop. Press Release from Buckinghamshire Council
Covid spot checks on businesses in Buckinghamshire continue
Teams will focus on convenience stores and small food outlets across the county
Buckinghamshire Council is working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to offer support and advice to businesses to ensure they have the right Covid-secure measures in place. Teams will be making calls and visits to all types of businesses to check that measures they’ve put in place to manage the risk from Covid are in line with current guidance. This includes businesses that have continued to operate throughout the pandemic, those that have recently reopened and those who may be due to open in the coming weeks. There will be a special who may be contacted over the coming weeks. The teams will do some spot checks and carry out inspections where there are concerns about the Covid measures they have in place. Nick Naylor, Cabinet Member for Housing, Homelessness and Regulatory Services at Buckinghamshire Council said: “Over the coming weeks any workplace of any size, in any sector could receive an unannounced check from our colleagues at the Health and Safety Executive or an inspection from Buckinghamshire Council. We’re
reaching out to help businesses make sure they are protecting their staff and customers and taking the right measures to stop the spread of Covid in their local community.” Angela Storey, Director of Tran formation and Operational Services at HSE, said: “As we come out of lockdown, we are continuing to work with local authorities to check businesses are Covid-secure and providing guidance and advice where needed. Our spot checks and inspections support the cross-government work in helping employers and employees that have worked throughout the pandemic and those returning as lockdown measures ease.” The COVID-secure measures businesses should have in place include: Risk assessment: every workplace should have a COVID risk assessment. Update it to reflect any changes in legislation or guidance that may impact your work activity Social distancing: where possible you should keep people two metres apart. If this is not viable, keeping one metre apart with risk mitigation is acceptable Cleaning, hygiene and handwashing: keeping your workplace clean reduces the potential for coronavirus to spread. It is a

critical part of making and keeping your business COVID-secure. Ventilation and air conditioning can help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus Talk to workers: provide information about providing support and maintaining control measures. Working from home: provide the equipment they need, keep in regular contact and discuss their wellbeing Vulnerable workers: talk to staff, provide information and consider the risk to workers who are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus – putting controls in place to reduce that risk All business should have COVIDsecure measures in place. It is a legal duty for businesses to protect their workers and others from harm and this includes taking reasonable steps to control the risk and protect people from coronavirus. As changes come and more businesses reopen, our responsibility is to make sure that all measures continue to be taken to keep workers safe as they return to the workplace. Check your workplace is safe by following the guidance on being COVID-secure. Further information on spot checks and inspections is available on the HSE website.
