Kick off Saturday 6th August..
It can feel as if football has never left us as we have had the Euros in France to occupy us but the new season is suddenly upon us once more. Brackley Town manager Kevin Wilkin starts his first full season at the club. Wilkin has retained the services of long time fans'
duly got underway three weeks ago and with players put through their paces the first friendly fixtures provide a welcome break for players keen to have the ball at their feet. Wilkin has lined up a mix of pre-season games including at local rivals Banbury United, fellow National League sides Wealdstone and Oxford City and attractive games against League One sides MK Dons and Northampton Town, both at St James Park. In the first game Saints welcomed The Cobblers and turned in an encouraging first performance and rattled four goals past a strong Northampton team cheered on by a bumper crowd of 653. The league season kicks off with the visit of Tamworth to St James Park on Saturday 6 August.

Why Make a Lasting Power of Attorney? At any stage of your life, you or your partner may be unfortunate enough to have an illness or accident that may affect your mental capacity to make decisions. These decisions may be about your financial affairs or your medical treatment, and if you are no longer able to do so have you put plans in place to appoint someone who can? All of these issues can be resolved by making a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). There are two types of LPA – one for finances and one for health. You can make one or both, appoint different Attorneys under each LPA and express ‘preferences’ and ‘instructions’ to outline how you envisage the arrangement working. Most people would prefer not to think about the circumstances in which LPAs are used, but a terrible situation can be much worse if no one is able to access funds or if your loved ones do not have the legal authority to carry out the medical wishes you have expressed to them. Spratt Endicott is recognised by The Legal 500
UK (A clients’ guide to the capabilities of law firms) as the leading firm in North Oxfordshire in terms of its expertise and experience in the areas of powers of attorney, trusts, estate planning, wills and probate. We deliver these services at competitive prices and can often agree a fixed fee with you at the outset of the matter.
For further information on Wills or Lasting Powers of Attorney, contact Jennifer Koch, Private Client Solicitor, on 01869 222315 or email jkoch@se-law.co.uk.

Windows 10 upg by Brackley Com
As many of you are aware that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users have seen their computers upgraded to Windows 10 without warning and installs without user permission after rebooting or switching on. This has caused serious issues for many hundreds of thousands of people across the sector and they have been left without a stable operating system and even worse a complete loss of personal data and no operating system. The end of 2015, computer manufactures Dell and HP have advised ‘do not upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 7 is entirely supported till April 2020. Windows 7 Professional versions is also still readily available but not

in large retail shops. New Windows 7 computers are obtained by us Brackley Computer Services or even online by highly recommended IT sale companies. Windows 8.1 and new computers can still be downgraded to Windows 7 Pro at a small cost by purchasing a genuine Microsoft Windows 7 authenticity product. We do not recommend upgrading your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Windows 10 upgrade and the irritating messages can be prevented by a tiny program which requires a minor computer literate experience. Let’s face it, Let’s face it, it’s a tricky topic, but one that needs addressing - we all know someone who has had their life affected by Cancer – the ‘big C’. It’s that word we all dread saying, almost as though just voicing it could be an omen for ill; perhaps even hearing the very name itself is seen as something to be feared. Thanks to fabulous research, leading to new understanding of prevention, drugs and

it’s a tricky topic... treatments, we probably also know someone who has told Cancer where to go – they’ve been through so much, and yet come out fighting, with a ‘new normal’ way of living and a desire to make every moment count. Without the amazing work done by charities, such as Cancer Research UK, and their supporters who are always tirelessly fundraising to support research into causes, treatments and care, these advances wouldn’t have happened. Twice as many people now survive a cancer diagnosis, than did 40 years ago – and half the people who receive this scary diagnosis will still be here after 10 years – spending more precious time with their loved ones. So if you’re a keen baker, why not organise a cake sale? If you’re a fabulous runner – go and get sponsored, and support this great cause.
Get the kids involved – they could get together with friends and sell old toys, do a sponsored silence, cycle, swim or dance - and donate the money to this very worthy charity. (source: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org)

The moment we see the sunshine, it’s time to get out in the garden and char some meat products beyond recognition, whilst drinking warm beer, wafting at wasps and sneezing our heads off with hay fever – a very British picture!
18
The moment we
Really, though – barbecues don’t have to involve blackened burgers and sad looking sausages…… .there are so many ways to cook alfresco and enjoy the experience!
Firstly – choose your fuel. Charcoal is traditional and imparts a
lovely flavour, but is harder to control and so risks the ‘charred exterior, still raw in the middle’ problem, which can lead to sickness. A way around this is to look for a barbecue where you can raise the grill height or control the airflow over the coals. Alternatively, pop the meat in the oven until it is just done,
see the sunshine then briefly have it on the barbecue to add flavour and colour, for just the last 5 minutes of cooking. This ensures there’s no chance of food poisoning, and the taste will be less intense, so will appeal to those who aren’t so keen on breaking their teeth on cremated meaty morsels! Gas barbecues are much more controllable, but are obviously less portable –
ideal for the garden, but just impossible to cart down to the beach! These can be used to cook food much more evenly, and may
incorporate griddle plates, for more tender items such as peppers or corn on the cob, fish or vegetarian foods.
Another way to avoid serving up a bad burger, whichever type of barbecue you prefer, is to invest in a cheap meat probe – get your food to 74 degrees Centigrade at the thickest part, and you can be sure that it will be sufficiently cooked to keep you safe.

Holiday activities - for pennies! Six weeks is a long time to fill with new games and fun activities to keep children entertained, so here are a few quick and inexpensive ideas for things to do to brighten your children’s day a little! It’s good to get them away from the TV, smartphone or games console for a while, so these are creative tasks which can be adapted for kids aged 3-12.
Salt dough – mix 1 mugful of salt, 2 mugsful of flour and steadily mix in up to a mugful of warm water. Knead well – little hands can get in on this – until a suitable consistency to roll out. Make cutters out of beakers, egg cups, anything to hand, or freestyle it! Bake in a very low oven for 2-3 hours, until completely dry – the thicker your shapes, the longer it takes – and then paint them with poster colours once dry. Older children can make sculptures and ornaments, using cutlery to vary textures and create detailing, and then varnish their artwork once it’s baked and painted. 24
Miniature gardens – a perfect activity for young children of all ages. Choose a container such as an ice cream box or clear takeaway tub. Go on a nature walk in the countryside or a local park, and collect grass, moss, twigs, small stones – and use to create a garden in miniature. Modelling clay is a good base to make trees stand up, and tin foil on the base of your container looks just like a pond; PVA glue will stick sand to make a beach, twigs can make beautiful trees or hedging. Thin wire, such as food bag ties, is great to twist sticks together to make structures such as benches. Easy baking – with a bit of maths mixed in – is delicious as well as an entertaining activity! Make a simple sponge mix by weighing 3 eggs, then matching that weight in self raising
flour, softened butter, and sugar. Oven needs pre-heating to 180 degrees Centigrade, and you can mix this all-in- one, so that it’s easy to make and everyone can have a turn; why not add sprinkles to the mixture, before popping it in the oven? Make sure all the butter is well beaten in, and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Cupcakes are popular – bake for 15-20 minutes, cool and then older children can each decorate some – or for younger ones, why not use a roasting tin to create a traybake – cook for 30-40 minutes, and then they can all help to ice it and put marshmallows, sweets or chocolate drops on when it’s cool. Help little ones with the oven part, although older children can do the whole activity with vague supervision, and know that they’ve achieved something very tasty, all on their own!

Get away – for less, this Summer holiday! The kids have just broken up from school for the long six week break……you’d love to book a week off work to take them away, but that’s going to be expensive, right? It’s a myth - it needn’t cost any more for a week’s camping in beautiful surroundings, than one good day out at a theme park for a family of four or five – so what are you waiting for? First things first – destination. Coastal campsites are going to be costlier, but even so, it may be a lot cheaper than you think! Family run sites may have fewer frills, but you can stay from as little as £15 £20 per night for the whole family – that can’t be bad! Second task – equipment. A fourman tent will not really sleep five, especially if it turns out to be a rainy week – better to choose an 8-berth and have extra space for dining or relaxing under cover. Plenty of spacious tents are available cheaply on selling sites, as families upgrade, or can be bought new for as little as £100 – look out for discount codes for those well-known camping gear shops, and make the most of the Summer sales! Or why not borrow or share with friends?
Thirdly – what to take with you? This is where you can spend or save, as you wish. Many discount shops sell camping gear, such as water containers, tableware and so on, sometimes for as little as £1! A lot depends on the facilities available on-site, but the very basics for a family with young children would be:
Tent, pegs and groundsheet • Sleeping •pump bag each, airbeds and • Battery-powered or wind-up lanterns water carrier • Collapsible Bucket with lid – to save the •midnight mad-dash, or for wet
• • • • • • • • • • •
Gaffer tape – for emergency repairs Bungee cords Clothes pegs Towels & toiletries Waterproofs Plenty of practical clothing & amp; shoes Sun protection First Aid kit Fire blanket Travel board games, books & amp; toys Phone charger cable & power bank All that you need now is to get up and go – so what are you waiting for? Enjoy!

GARDENING THIS MONTH...
September will do the business... After the wet winter and spring, my money was on July turning hot, though it did leave it a little late. I don’t know if the weather will continue in this summery vein as I write, but I reckon September will do the business as she often does.

Jobs in the garden
Dead-heading and pruning continue in the ‘ornamental’ garden. Lavender, when it has finished flowering, is a prime case for trimming over as this encourages bushy growth, and delays the tendency to lax, open plants as they age. A second trim at the end of winter will help in this respect. Many types of hedge are best pruned this month. The slight regrowth made by

In the kitchen garden, strawberry plants can be tidied, cutting back old growth. If more than three years old, consider replanting with healthy new ones. Other jobs are numerous, but worth mentioning are: lifting and drying onions, and cutting and drying herbs for winter use.

WHITTLEBURY CHARITY FAIR TO SUPPORT CHILD BEREAVEMENT UK The annual Whittlebury charity shopping fair will take place on 28th and 29th September at The Orangery and Pavilion, Whittlebury Park. This year the fair will be raising funds for Child Bereavement UK which has recently opened a centre in Milton Keynes supporting families in the local and surrounding areas. Child Bereavement UK support families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement. The charity’s newly opened centre in Milton Keynes provides a key local service where advice can be sought and support given for as long as is necessary. Child Bereavement UK said ‘it is wonderful that The Whittlebury Charity Shopping Fair will be supporting us this year and we are very much looking forward to being involved. Support from the local community in raising funds and awareness is vital in order for us to help families rebuild their lives after the devastation of child bereavement.’ The fair will also raise money for; Helen and Douglas house, hospice care for children and young adults and Macmillian Cancer Support Northampton. Over 65 stall holders from all over the country will come to the fair for the two days selling a huge array of items from
clothes, homewares, gifts, food, toys, gardening accessories, personalised stationary, jewellery and much more. Fair founder Sam Satchell said ‘we are delighted to support our new charity Child Bereavement UK, it is a wonderful charity supporting many families locally. Every penny we raise goes direct to the charities as the venue is very generously donated by Jeff and Carol Sargent and all costs are covered by our kind sponsors Knight Frank, Be Upstanding Marquees, Nicholson’s, Heaven and Stubbs, Bay Tree Cottage and Easy Lightbulbs.
