MEDIATION IN RELATIONSHIP BREAKDOWN The end of a relationship can be an extremely emotional and stressful time. As a result, it is often difficult to resolve day-to- day arrangements and difficulties that arise, for example, caring for children or dealing with financial assets.
By keeping matters amicable and avoiding Court proceedings, which can be expensive and longlasting, Mediation helps to reduce cost, stress and delay in moving on for all concerned. To achieve an amicable separation, effective communication is crucial and this can also be assisted by Mediation.
Mediation provides a confidential forum to talk openly about points of concern to the individuals involved. A Mediator will first meet with each person to give them an opportunity to explain fully the issues they confront and to find out more about the Mediation process.
After their initial meetings, both parties are invited to a joint meeting with the Mediator. As Mediation is a voluntary process, it only takes place if there is
agreement to participate.
The Mediator’s role is to remain impartial and to assist in discussions with a view to helping reach an agreement. The Mediator can then prepare the necessary paperwork to pass to a solicitor so that any agreement can be properly recorded.
For more information about Mediation, or any legal aspects of relationship breakdown, contact Gemma Davison of Spratt Endicott on 01869 222310 or email gdavison@se-law.co.uk

Brackley Computer Repair & Support
The response to our computer repair & support advertising in Buckingham has been overwhelming and we now have lots of new clients on our books, many of whom have signed up to our monthly, remote support cover. Below are just some of our clients’ thoughts on our services: “I was delighted with your initial response to my request for help. Unlike many others in your ‘trade’ you were very prompt in
diagnosing and providing a permanent solution to my problem at a very reasonable price. Furthermore you were very patient in dealing with minor questions once the software system had been rebuilt. I have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone in a similar position to myself.” Nicholas Reynell, Brackley “I must say how much I appreciated your help in bringing my computer back to life. I really thought it was going to need replacing but you came and fixed
it in a short space of time at an extremely cost effective price and also extremely quick – it was 3 days I think. I would certainly recommend you to any person with a computer problem. Many thanks for a prompt, efficient and rapid service.” Bryan Trinder, Brackley “Thank you very much for your e-mail. I am very happy with the work PChelp4U did to my computer. It works like a dream. Once again thank-you. If needed I will call again for help.” Mrs Dunn, Brackley

Family focus
A little kindness goes a long w We all love a treat, surprise or a helping hand when life’s a bit tough, and it’s just as nice doing a kind deed for a friend, and seeing their happiness – so how about paying it forward? The idea is that, if we all stop and think of someone else, perhaps a random stranger - the person in front of you in the newsagents’ queue, perhaps someone with no change on the bus or at a parking meter, and help them out, that the kindness will come full circle and we will benefit both spiritually and practically, by helping another and by receiving help when we need it. It’s really a modern take on the old sense of family and community values, revamped for the age – so many people live alone or well away from family, may work long hours and not speak to their neighbours, so we have less ability to be
14
way......
helpfully involved in each others’ lives. The idea of helping a stranger out, or just doing a kind thing, with the only requirement that the recipient also does something kind for another, spreads the feeling of a world-wide community, where we all help each other out and are kind to everyone. This fits with most organised systems of belief and religion, where when you pare away the deities and worship, all equate to the same guidelines – live gently, be kind and help others. An excellent set of moral principles for us all to live by.

Family focus
February is such a busy month! As the shortest, with ‘just 28 days clear, and 29 in every leap year’, there’s plenty to pack in!
Chinese New Year – the Year of the Fire Rooster – began on 28th January, but continue for a full fortnight. Chinese astrologers tell us that this year promises change – it’s a year to proceed cautiously, stick with what you know and work hard, to be sure that 2017 will be a successful one.

As soon as those festivities have ended, we have Valentine’s Day on 14th February. A day for lovers, romantic gestures, anonymous cards from admirers, with red roses and chocolates in abundance. It may be said that Valentine’s is over-commercialised and hyped, but it is nice to spend a day, whenever you may choose, to focus on the one you love and to make them feel special, so why not February 14th? At the end of the month, on the very last day, it’s Shrove
ebrate! Tuesday. Important to Christians as the day you use up all the rich foods, before the first day of Lent – Ash Wednesday – when fasting or eating simply is observed. To everyone else, it’s just Pancake Day – and to children everywhere, a great reason to eat lemon and sugar in abundance at teatime! The requirements are simple – a fairly non-stick frying pan, milk, flour and eggs – and a good stepladder for when the tossed pancake gets stuck to the ceiling – again! Festivals such as these, whatever your culture or beliefs, are a good reason to get together, to celebrate, and – at this rather chilly time of year, I’m all for a party!

Excellent season...
Glenn Walker in action at Blackpool
Brackley Town's excellent season has continued into the New Year. The contrast with this time last year is stark reflecting the work done over the Summer in recruiting a new squad and the confidence that winning matches gives to a team. Brackley's success in the FA Cup came to a halt at League side Blackpool in the 2nd round after an outstanding display was not enough to recover from conceding an early goal to The Tangerines who
18
held out for the narrowest of 1-0 wins to take them into the 3rd round where they drew another home tie against Barnsley. Over 400 supporters made the trip to Blackpool to support their team and many made a weekend of it having a grand time. In the league Saints continued to prosper and enter New Year at the halfway mark in the season just outside the play-off spots but with several games in hand following the distractions of the cup. A tough run of games in January and February will test Kevin Wilkin's side to the full but the team has a realistic chance of making the play-offs come April. The National League has yet to announce arrangements for the play-off final but the original plans to stage it at Wembley have been shelved and MK Dons appears to be the likely venue. While everyone at the club is optimistic and buoyant given the team's success so far, nobody is getting carried away and there is no talk of play-offs yet with half the campaign still to contest. Visit the club website for details of forthcoming fixtures and social events at the club. Come along and support your local team!

Thank goodness it’s officially the last month of Winter, and Spring is just around the corner the cold weather and short, dark days are disappearing, filling us with that lovely sense of hope for the new season. For wildlife, too, Spring can’t come soon enough, and on sunny days later this month, you’ll see birds pairing up and perhaps nestbuilding, those sure signs that nature’s year is about to start again. It’s National Nestbox week starting on 14th, Valentines Day, and I’m sure we can all find a spot, on the side of the house or trunk of a tree in the garden, perhaps on the shed, for a nestbox or three, to help the smallest garden birds have a safe, cat-free place to raise their young. As always at this chilly time of year, it’s important to keep feeding garden birds, and to ensure there’s water out for them as well, when it’s icy, to help keep them in good condition until nature is more generous in the
Pets Corner Wildlife in February
warmer months. In ponds, slow-moving streams and deep ditches, there are signs that frogs and toads are thinking along the same lines, as those jellylike clumps and strands of spawn appear – it’s great fun to borrow a little bit and keep it in a large jar of pond water, where kids can see the tadpoles hatch and watch them grow. Once they’re out and wiggling, the tadpoles may start to need additional food, and a tiny piece of bacon, dangled from a thread to keep it floating on the water’s surface, will nourish them, and they’ll soon start to grow little legs – a fascinating process for both kids and not-so-kids to watch!Wild mammals are out and about looking for food, too – on
frosty mornings, or when snow is on the ground, you can clearly see the tracks across parks and gardens, and it’s interesting to identify these footprints, and find just how many nocturnal species come visiting each evening. Fox, badger, rabbit and rat are the most common, along with those pretty pawprints left by neighbourhood cats, patrolling their patch, and it’s quite interesting to see how much wildlife your garden hosts overnight!

Moving Ten top tips to m
Yes, moving home is one of life’s major stresses, alongside changing job, illness, death and divorce, but it really needn’t be!

ECO-Friendly Carpet Cleaning in your home or business that wont cost the earth
1. Plan ahead – once you’re thinking of making a move, start to rationalise possessions; this is a great time to re-gift (think free Christmas presents!) or hold a garage sale, or how about donating to a charity shop near you – have a good de-clutter! 2. Don’t try to do too much yourself – it’s too stressful. Make sure you hire a good local removals firm as soon as you have a moving date, or rope in a bunch of good friends and hire a large van, if finances are tight. 3. If your move means you’ll need a larger mortgage, your bank might not be the best port of call. Local independent brokers have the pick of many products, and if you’re selfemployed or have any issues that may mean the banks are less than friendly, a broker will be your best bet. 4. Boxes, bubble wrap and marker pens – don’t attempt to move house without these! Buy decent quality and plenty – you can always sell what you haven’t used, or even second hand, on social media sales pages. 5. Wrap, box and label well in advance – and pack the kettle, teabags, sugar and mugs last – make sure that box travels with

you to your new home – that well-earned cup of tea is the first thing you’ll need! 6. Read your meters! Utility companies will need the last readings from your old place and the first ones from your new one – take a quick photo of each meter on your phone, to save time on moving day. 7. Update your documents – insurance, driving licence, bank, doctors, schools……. 8. Redirect your post! About six months should do it – by that time, it should just be junk mail still arriving at your old address, because you’ll have notified everyone else. 9.Keep cats in! It takes a couple of weeks for a cat to identify with a new home – otherwise they’ll try to wander back to their old patch. If you’ve moved less than a couple of miles, keep the cat in a little longer. If you haven’t done so already, now is a good time to get your pets neutered, to minimise the risk of fighting with new neighbours, or unwanted litters of kittens. 10. Delegate! You can’t do it all – particularly if you happen to own a grand piano! Recruit your family and friends to help you move, then throw a housewarming party to reward them – they’ll be more than happy to participate!

Gardening this month...
As I write this in the middle of January, the winter is finally turning soggy and mild having had one or two coldish snaps producing a whole centimetre of snow! The outlook is much the same so I reckon that we are still in catchup mode as far as rainfall goes, and we should expect more of the same. To remind us of what can happen in February, here is a couple of pictures from five years ago. Chris Swallow, Swallow Nursery
Looking good
Beneath the ground, bulbs will be growing unscathed, to emerge and flower to herald the spring. Of great value now are shrubs with bright colour. Mahonia Charity (see top picture ) with its brilliant yellow, fragrant flowers will lift the heart. The bold evergreen foliage will grow in a shady spot but it may reach two metres or more. If you have a woodland type
garden with dappled shade and reasonably moist soil (neutral soil PH), a lovely shrub to try is the witch hazel. The pretty flowers come late winter in shades of yellow and orange (see pic above)

Apeeling tree?
Choosing a tree, particularly for a small garden, is difficult. Bark that looks good in the winter is a bonus and Tibetan cherry (Prunus serrula) ticks this box. The peeling amber bark of this small tree comes alive with the sun behind (see picture above) It also has small white flowers in spring and nice autumn colour. The multistem form is particularly attractive.
Jobs in the Garden
Now is a great time to plant barerooted fruit trees and fruit bushes. As long as conditions allow, get
in the spring. Cane fruits (raspberries, blackberries and their hybrids) should be planted into
them in the ground so that the roots can make some growth before leaves and shoots emerge
prepared ground and prune to about 25cm. Don’t forget they will need the support of wires or

canes. Currents need space to grow. Plant black, red and white currents five feet apart, into well worked and fertilised soil. Gooseberries need space as well. Choose one of the modern sweet varieties for dessert or culinary use, such as ‘Whinhams Industry’, with dark red luscious fruits. If you haven’t done yet, its not to late to add well rotted manure or garden compost to the vegetable plot for some bumper crops to come
