INJUNCTIONS – WHAT, HOW AND WHEN? There may be times, either at the outset of a case or during the course of proceedings, when urgent action is required and it may be appropriate to apply to Court for an injunction. Where there are domestic violence, abuse or harassment issues, it may be necessary to pursue a Non-Molestation Order requiring that behaviour to stop. That may be linked to an application for an Occupation Order requiring the party causing the problem to leave the family home. Within such Orders, certain conditions can be applied such as: • Restricting the party from being within a certain radius of the home or work place; or • Stating who should continue paying the bills during the period the Order is in place. Within financial matters, injunctions may also be possible if: • It appears one party’s attempting to move an asset out of the other’s reach (e.g. transferring money abroad or into the account of a third party); or • Assets are being displaced and urgent action needs to be taken to prevent this. Once the necessary paperwork is prepared, the
matter should be addressed in Court very quickly, sometimes on the same day that the application is made. Investigating the background to the situation and compiling the documentation usually involves a considerable amount of work to be carried out at short notice. This necessarily effects the costs that need to be paid. As time is often crucial within injunction applications, if you think you might need assistance of this nature, you should contact a specialist family solicitor immediately. For more information on the issues raised in this article, please email Patrick Mulcare: pmulcare@se-law.co.uk. Alternatively, telephone our Family Law Department on 01295 204000.

Impressive start...
Brackley Town has made an impressive start to the new Vanarama National League North season. Determined not to repeat the two difficult preceding seasons when only final day escape acts ensured survival, the Saints have begun with a series of wins and draws and just the solitary defeat in the first 8 games. Manager Kevin Wilkin re-shaped his squad over the pre-season period retaining several key players from last season including fans' favourites Glenn Walker and Steve Diggin and bringing in players with experience at this level and recent
12
success including Jimmy Armson, Adam Walker and Gareth Dean from last season's title winners Solihull Moors. Wilkin made Dean his captain and centre-back Dean has shown supporters why through a consistently outstanding start to the campaign including chipping in with two goals. Dean has been joined at the centre of defence by newcomer Alex Gudger who was signed from Worcester City and Luke Graham who featured at St James Park last season under Wilkin. The early rounds of the FA Cup competition have been under way for some time and Brackley enter at this stage with a home tie against Rugby Town. After last season's exciting cup run, including the televised game against league opponents Newport County, everyone at the club is looking forward to another good cup experience this time around. YPRES
VERDON
Dixmude
Evenley Village Hall on Friday 4th November starting at 7.30pm. 1916 was a pivotal year of
World War One, which saw a number of significant battles along the Western Front, including the Battle of Verdun and the Battle of the Somme; Passchendaele was yet to come and many more lives were to be lost. In commemoration of this one hundred year anniversary, a photographic presentation is taking place at Evenley Village Hall, entitled 'The Western Front One Hundred Years On'. Images showing the battlefields as they were in 1916, with contrasting pictures showing what can be seen today, have been put together by amateur historian Eric Millard, an Evenley resident. Eric commented ‘ I have included interesting facts, some with local interest. The evening is meant to be informative for those who have never visited the Flanders area and I hope will inspire some to go and see for themselves’. This is 16
not a formal historical lecture and will include some war poetry, to add to the poignancy of the evening. The program, which is part of Evenley Arts, co-ordinated by Kevin O’Regan, will commence with the outbreak of war and how men volunteered to be part of it. Whilst avoiding endless images of dead bodies, the presentation will continue with images from 1916 which will leave the audience with an impression of the horrors of war. These old photographs will be complimented by recent images showing the still scarred landscape of the 100 year old battlefield, preserved trench lines, bunkers, huge craters and memorials both large and small across the Western Front. At Dixmude in Belgium one can see a
WW1 bunker, set in preserved trench lines alongside a canal. To the side of the bunker is one of 118 demarcation stones erected along the Western Front in Belgium and France marking the extent of the German invasion. In Verdun, one hundred year old shell holes can be seen, now claimed back by nature as wild life ponds. All over the Western Front, shell casings are still being ploughed up by farmers one hundred years after the war, however, this is not surprising when one considers that over 170 million shells were fired on the western front, from 1914 to 1918. The presentation will include some information about the local home front and finish with some of the major legacies of WW1 including the human cost.
Tickets are £2.50 available from Eric Millard on 01280 705278 or email greendotday@hotmail.co.uk

October heralds the start of the Pheasant season, which means a steady supply of healthy, outdoor reared freerange meat will be winging its way to a game dealer or good butcher near you, anytime soon!
18
COOKING CORN
If you’re keen to try cooking game, Pheasant or Partridge are both delicious and would be the easiest ones to start with – and if you’d like to buy ‘in the feather’, then you can get a cheap meal. A brace (two birds together,
usually a cock and a hen bird) can cost just a few pounds – much cheaper than a free range chicken, and much better for you. The easiest way to turn a shot brace into a quick and delicious meal for four people, is to take the breast meat off – no plucking required here – it’s quick and simple. Lay the bird on its back, and
NER
identify the end of the breastbone – you can feel the breast meat either side, and below this, heading towards the tail of the bird, there’s a hollow. Pinch up the skin, with the feathers still on, and make a small, shallow cut, exposing the end of the breast meat. Using both thumbs, pull the skin up and away from the meat, up to where the wings join on.
Take a sharp knife and cut right alongside the breastbone and then under the breast meat as it overlies the ribs, and then cut again to separate the meat at the top, by the wing – and you’ll have something looking very similar to a chicken breast. Repeat for the other side, and then repeat the whole process for the other bird – now you’ll have 4 breast portions. Wash the meat and pat dry, and you’ll see that a small fillet separates off under each portion – remove
any sinew you find here, and put the pieces of meat back together. Now the time to add flavour – my favourite is to stuff in some tiny pieces of Stilton and wrap the whole thing in streaky bacon, and lay the Pheasant portions in a casserole on a deep bed of sautéed onions. Add a slosh of white wine, pop on a lid and into the oven at 180 o C for about 25 – 30 minutes – check with a meat probe to ensure it’s cooked through, because game doesn’t like to be overcooked. Serve with green beans and some lovely buttery mashed potato - Just perfect!

Autumnal Ar I could name so many Autumnal delights, things I really love about this colourful season with crisp, cold mornings heralding a sunny day and crunchy fallen leaves underfoot – but one thing I really can’t stand is the annual spider invasion! All summer long, we have coexisted in pleasant harmony – I’ve swiped the odd cobweb here and there, and spotted the odd longlegged beastie lurking behind doors or in much-neglected corners – but they’ve been few and far between. Now they’re back with a vengeance! Hairy, thick-legged creatures with giant pinchers – in my welly boot, under the mop bucket, even one in the airing cupboard – certain to make me scream at every opportunity! I’ve been given a top tip to keep them at bay, and I’m certainly going to try it – conkers!

rachnophobia They’re so plentiful at this time of year; the kids love finding them, bringing those still in their prickly cases for me to shell, risking the spines to unveil another silky brown shape to add to their growing collection in pockets and schoolbags. Conkers are said to contain a chemical substance that keeps spiders away, so I’m going to let the kids keep a few in the corners of their bedrooms, pop some into the airing cupboard, in with old shoes or boots, and try it out! It can’t do any harm, and it may just save me from the little beasties – and keep the cobwebs at bay!

Love that log burner….. As the nights draw in, the temperature starts to drop and you find you’re craving a cosy cardigan, lighting the log burner to warm things up a bit seems like a really good idea. They’re a great way to heat your home, using a renewable energy source, but there are a few safety measures needed
to ensure you don’t get more than you’d bargained for. • Choose well - new log burners need to be the correct size and style for your room and should be installed by professionals, with a chimney survey and all the correct fittings to make sure the flue is correct for your appliance
• Get it checked – keep an eye on sealed joints, condition of firebricks, rope seals around doors, glass retaining clips, door hinges, airflow systems, baffle plates...if in doubt, ask your chimney sweep to check it out. • Get it swept – arrange for someone to sweep the chimney before lighting it for the first time this season, and at regular intervals during the
winter, to improve the chimney’s draw and prevent the flue coking up and potential chimney fires • Burn the right stuff – dry, seasoned logs are what’s required to give out plenty of heat and prevent problems – burning green wood or rubbish will cause your flue to clog up and won’t keep you warm. Choose a good local supplier who will deliver as and when you need them, to avoid the need to store enough to last the winter. • Enjoy – crackling logs, that gentle glow which makes any room feel cosy, reduced central heating bills….. there really is a lot to recommend this eco-heating option!

GARDENING THIS MONTH...
Although we had some warmer days over September, the autumn is now definitely here for real, and it feels cooler. It's a beautiful time of year, with the trees changing colour. However, there’s much to do so you can enjoy the garden now and into next spring, says Buckingham Garden Centre’s Chris Day. Old school gardening says October is the beginning of the gardening
cycle. A time to prepare, plant and develop gardens or take on mini makeover projects. In real life, though, gardening is more about the here and now and for many, rightly or wrongly, a time to put the garden to bed for the winter. Yes, there are certainly things that you have to do – autumn feed the lawn, tidy fallen leaves, clear your beds, pots or borders of short term bedding and

seasonal plants, repair/replace fences, and cut back plants to help maintain their shape for the next growing season. The nights may be drawing in but that’s no excuse why we cannot enjoy our plots to the full this month. The last couple of years have proved perfect for weekend BBQs in October and let’s face it, I’m reluctant to close the back patio doors and miss out on all the blooming flowers and scents just now. If you can, try and extend the season by adding some lights to your garden. Increased battery technology means many solar lights can perform well this month, however low voltage lighting and even battery lights may provide an attractive alternative. If you are planning a major all mains lit garden, do the sensible thing and call in a qualified electrician and
make sure the lighting you select is specifically designed for outside use. f you have a pond or water feature, why not add some submerged LED lighting to create an atmospheric glow? You could also dress specimen plants, says bay trees, palms or olive trees with some solar light strings. Up lighters are particularly useful for giving individual plants dramatic effect. Traditional candles, tea lights and glass lanterns usually provide sufficient lighting around your seated patio or deck area. Tea lights come in a variety of sizes and options; however you might find the citronella ones useful at deterring the midges and mosquitoes! There are of course some natural and attractive insect repellents you could also plant instead of using a mozzie spray. Good effective candidates would be Lavender, Rosemary and Thymes. These could be used as
individuals, or buy a reasonably sized pot and arrange a mini standard Lavender surrounded by other herbs to help deter the flying nuisances around your seated areas. One of the best ways of creating an illusion of space, shimmer and shine is to plant a bold grouping of white flowers. Large flowered white Anemones, Shasta Daisies, Dahlias, Michealmas Daisies and even climbing Jasminium officinale will produce an ethereal glow. Don’t just rely on flowers, foliage can play a great part in the illusion, especially the silvery foliage of perennial Artemisia ‘Powys Castle’ (pictured), shrubby Convolvulus cneorum, seasonal bedder Cineraria maritima or ground-covering lamb’s ears, Stachys lanata. These foliage beauties really look good when bathed in colourful LED light! If you intend to light the garden then marker lights generally are useful, especially if you have lots of meandering pathways. Also Individual spot lights are excellent at picking out certain features – statues, garden art and follies.

If you plan to sit outside from dusk and later then some natural warmth is going to be required. Those gas patio heaters are definitely a no-no these days, so opt instead for the likes of ecofriendly fire pits or chiminea where you can make use of your large woody prunings (dried of course). Not only do fire pits look attractive, you can enjoy relative safety as the open flame is protected by a grill dome. The chiminea benefits from having a chimney so it directs the smoke up and away, so avoiding the teary eye and kipper effect from those
sitting down wind! Finally, patio pots will no doubt require a re-vamp after the summer season. There are so many options available for winter planter displays, including colourful winter flowering Pansies, Violas, Bellis daisies, Miracle mini Cyclamen and Chrysanthemums. You can intersperse your displays effectively with evergreen foliage plants such as Ajuga, Creeping Jenny, ornamental grasses such as Carex ‘Prairie Fire’ and Festuca as well as colourful conifers including lemon scented Cupressus ‘Goldcrest’ and the silvery blue Chamaecyparis ‘Boulevard’.
