Spaldin To Show “Sleep Comfort Index” Certified Mattresses At Las Vegas Market

Spaldin, a pioneer in the use of fully certified human and ecologically safe materials, reported that it is the first US mattress manufacturer to have certified its entire mattress line using a unique Oekotex 100 number. The certification covers fabric, thread, foams, and adhesives to guarantee the safety of Spaldin mattresses. According to Spalding President and CEO Oscar Valdemoros, "the company will proudly introduce this first of its kind Sleep Comfort Index to the North American consumer and retailers at the Las Vegas market.

“We are offering retailers and consumers a third-party tested and objective index to help them make their choice. Now consumers have a way to compare comfort performance of mattresses regardless of the manufacturer or the materials used,” says Valdemoros. "Sleep comfort is one of the first words that come up no matter who is talking about the quality of bedding. Yet in most cases, there are no objective standards and comparable specifications that a sales consultant can use to give customers a well-founded recommendation suited to their individual needs," he continued. "However supporting the physiological processes that take place in the body when a person sleeps at night is vital. The temperature balance between the human body and the surrounding temperature and warmth and moisture management within the 'sleeping area' are key to a good night's sleep. The sleep comfort is defined by Hohenstein Institute, as the ability to maintain comfortable body temperature during slumber while transporting perspiration away from the body quickly and effectively. Using ISO 11092, mattresses are ranked on an index imt that goes from 0 to 1. One is defined as the maximum and ideal Sleep Comfort. Three of the Spaldin lines, STubes, SClimatic, and S DryFlow, were tested and certified according to their Sleep Comfort using the “Skin Model” device developed by Hohenstein Institute.

“Although the S Climatic showed in the test the ability of the gel to improve heat dissipation, it was awarded an index of 0.6 in Sleep Comfort. However, both S Dry Flow and S Tubes have shown extraordinary results with indexes of 0.82 and 1 respectively. This demonstrates the science and built-in performance of the engineering behind the construction of those mattresses. This is especially true for S Tubes which according to its Sleep Comfort Index ranking is the Perfect Sleep Solution,” Valdemoros said. The test carried out in the same laboratory as the Sleep Comfort Index tests used a mannequin heated internally to achieve a temperature of 95º F. Tests showed that SClimatic cooled down quicker than regular memory foam, particularly in the first 100 seconds... and that the difference in temperature was 1.5 ºC on average (2.7º F), a significant improvement.
