About us...

Smokin' Guns Range and Shooting Academy, LLC, is veteran-owned and operated A former Air Force communications NCO, Rob Cavaco currently teaches electronics at Keesler AFB and is the owner of Rob's Cabinets & More; a custom cabinet shop located in D'Iberville. Rob is a certified USCCA and NRA instructor with a passion for introducing new shooters to the fun of the shooting sports

Current Progress And Status

As you know, we are currently teaching classes/workshops and training locally at Coast Rifle and Pistol Club We have a full line of new and exciting courses coming up in the summer for 2023 and we are excited to share them with you

With our location secured and building plans in the development phase, we are making plans to move forward with the construction of our new facility! We hope to break ground in the fall and after about a 10-month construction phase, we have plans to be opening very close to the end of 2024!

While we're still in our development phase, we'll be calling on you for your input and suggestions so we can work together to build the best range possible for our community

SMOKIN' GUNS WELCOMES NEW INSTRUCTOR, JUSTON HICKS!

Sheila Farr, a former Air Force Reserve personnelist, is the owner of Gulf Coast Training & Education Services, LLC in downtown Biloxi. A certified NRA instructor, Sheila's passion is helping women and seniors learn more about personal safety She's a certified "Refuse to Be a Victim" instructor and an independent representative for Damsel in Defense.

We're excited to welcome Juston Hicks to the Smokin' Guns Instructor Team! A resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over 33 years, he is dedicated to teaching people self-defense and defensive shooting. Juston has worked in law enforcement, private security, and executive protection for more than 10 years, so he's a welcomed addition to our team. His goal is to train individuals to effectively defend themselves and their loved ones so they can gain the knowledge and skills they need to prevent them from becoming a victim.

Here's a quick note from Juston:

ROB'S RAMBLINGS....

Hello Guys,

Juston and I had the opportunity to attend a “Rangemaster Instructor” class taught by Tom Givens If you don’t know, Tom is one of the most sought-after firearms instructors in the United States Tom has now been working in firearms instruction for over 50 years. He has trained security officers; law enforcement officers at the local, state, and federal level; and foreign government agents.

After completing a 25-year career in law enforcement and specialized security work, Tom opened his own pistol range in Memphis, TN For 18 years, it was the primary source of handgun carry permit certification for the greater Memphis area Soon joined by his wife Lynn, the training duo formed Rangemaster Firearms Training Services to share their expertise with a much broader audience They now travel across the country and around the world to arm responsible citizens with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively protect themselves and their families

There is no doubt attending this class made us better shooters, but more important than that, better instructors. We were trained on how to better observe and coach our students, to expect more from them and help them achieve their goals and become more confident in firearms manipulation and marksmanship. Juston and I learned a lot and took several things away from this class. I have to say that my biggest take away from Tom’s class is what we owe our students What we owe our students is to train them and prepare them for what may one day be the “most important” day of their lives (That time when they may have to defend themselves or loved one from a deadly threat ) Having students who are prepared for that encounter was emphasized more throughout the weekend than anything else

Of all of Tom’s Rangemaster Instructor students there have been 68 instances where a student had been threatened with deadly force The Rangemaster student’s statistics of these 68 deadly force encounters are: 65 wins; 0 losses; 3 forfeits. A pretty remarkable record, but sad when you consider the forfeits. You see the forfeits are those people who for whatever reason made a decision NOT to carry their firearm that day. Please don’t be a forfeit If you are not carrying let me encourage you to do so If your holster is not right or is your comfort level with a e it. Just please do not be a forfeit uld miss you if you were to forfeit
