After realizing that a quality opt-in list is necessary, you decide you want to build one. Then it happens. You build one but it's not making you money. You have hired writers, spent money developing products, paid your monthly hosting and autoresponder fees but you're not bringing in sales. The reason for this is simple. Research wasn't done and people don't just buy instantly. People buy off those they know and trust. I'm going to share with you three ways to build a profitable list even if you've failed before or are just getting started. 1. Gain the Trust of Your Prospects By Building Rapport People don't just buy off a list that is new. By providing valuable content, freebies, and other tools and tips you will gain the trust of your list. After you gain this, they will consider you an expert and trust your opinion. Another way to gain trust in prospects is by joining forums in your niche. This serves a dual purpose. As you participate and provide valuable tips and posts, you will also learn what people want and the general trend in your niche. Maybe the niche is moving away from ebooks into audio? If this is the case, why spend hours and money producing an ebook? The ebook could be great but if it's not relevant then you'll struggle. As you become active in the forums and provide value to your current subscribers, you will notice a general uptrend in your revenue. Your list will grow and you'll make more off each subscriber. 2. Provide products or services people want and need. People will tell you what they want. When you are in the forums, you'll see what is selling and what people are talking about. This is a good indicator of what you should be doing. If you go against the grain too much, you run the risk of products flopping. Recreating the wheel is necessary sometimes but most of the time it is not. Even if you're not an expert in all aspects of your product, you can still create products. Just do the research. You'll become more of an expert by researching, implementing, and then teaching. A common myth of people who don't have a list is that you need to know everything. This is what keeps most people back. Don't fall into that trap. 3. Build relationships with other list owners in your niche By having partners to be a mentor or partner, you'll decrease the learning curve substantially.
Imagine if you impress someone with a list of 10,000 active subscribers and he promotes something of yours. What kind of traffic do you think you could get? The other way this becomes important is that you now have to do less testing than if you're working from scratch. By learning from people's failures, you will save yourself the expense of money and time of repeating their mistakes.
