It seems almost everyone wants to start blogging for profit. While blogging is a great way to make an income working from home, most bloggers don't succeed for two main reasons. They often have unrealistic expectations as to how much work it takes to succeed with blogging, how quickly they can generate high enough traffic levels, and how much money they will make. Understand that a simple, push-button system for making money online doesn't exist, whether it's selling your own information products, building a huge list, or blogging for profit. The other big time obstacle most bloggers come up against is the lack of a plan. It's so quick and inexpensive to set up a blog that people don't treat it as a real business and they don't put a plan in place for their blog. If you want to profit from your blog, you need to have a real business plan and stick to it. If you want to succeed blogging for profit, you need to have a good sized readership and that means generating massive amounts of traffic to your blog. The more readers you have the more money you can charge advertisers, the more money you'll make from programs like Google Adsense, the more affiliate sales you'll make. While providing high quality content will bring back repeat visitors (something crucial to having a successful blog), you need to spend even more time marketing your blog and generating those visitors. If they don't find your blog the first time, they sure won't be able to become repeat visitors. There are too many blogs out there for you to spend all your time (or even most of it), writing blog posts and adding content to your blog. Just like location, location and location is a key principle of success in real estate, marketing, marketing, marketing is a key principle in the success of blogging for profit. If you're currently spending most of your time writing content for you blog, try reducing how often you add new blog posts and spend that time on marketing your blog with techniques like blog comments, article writing, commenting on other blogs, approaching top bloggers in your niche and asking to write guest articles for their blogs, etc. Understand that creating a quality blog and generating decent traffic takes time and effort. Set periodic goals (with deadlines) on thing such as the number of posts you make, how many articles you write, etc.
It doesn't happen overnight. But if you put a good plan into place and stick with it, you'll start seeing results over time. Eventually, you won't just be blogging, you'll be blogging for profit.
