Productive Insanity is doing the same things over and over again in hopes that your production will increase with the same actions you have always done. Well, it does not. I know from experience. Throughout my career in sales, I have learned what to do and what not to do to be productive in any industry or business. We have all heard the guru's telling us that we can do anything we set our mind to doing. This is very true. The problem is that most of us do not understand HOW to set our minds to doing what we know is the proper thing to do to be highly productive. What we do not need is another cheer leading guru telling us to THINK positive and you will succeed. What we do need is someone giving us a few simple steps to precede the thinking positive portion of productivity. Guess what, that is what I am going to attempt to do. I do not always adhere to these rules and procedures, but I do the best I can. I all comes down to the 80/20 rule that 80 percent of results come from 20 percent of our actions. So what are the most productive actions in business? I am glad you asked. Below are the top 20 percent of my dollar producing activities that have help me gain focus and produce results in sales and in life. Here is a typical day that will result in success in your field or industry. First, get out of bed and get into meditation. Personally, my meditation is with the God and my Bible. This time is also known as my quiet time. You need to commune with the creator or whatever higher power you subscribe to and get yourself at peace first thing in the morning. This is key to how your day will unfold. Without it, your mind, heart and soul are a train wreck waiting to happen. Second, exercise. Whether it is a quick walk or 2 hour work out, do something to strengthen your physical being. The great thing about exercise is that if you can not do it in the morning, there is always lunch time or evening time to exercise. It does not matter when you do it, just do it. Many people will say that you should exercise in the morning to get you going. I have found that I need my quiet time in the morning to get me focused and my walk in the evening to get me relaxed. Third, time block two hours a day for prospecting or creative thinking depending on your industry. Experts tell us to do this first thing at the start of your work day. If you arrive at the office at 9:00 a.m. then prospect or do your creative activity from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This time is reserved for doing what will lead to new business in your industry. If you skip this, then your day will fill up with the "stuff" that requires not so immediate attention and you will not get back to the lead producing activity. Do not take phone calls or check your e-mail during this time, you have the rest of the day to do those things. Fourth, plan your vacation and family time BEFORE you plan your business time. Your family will
love you for it and your business will prosper because of it. Last of all, care about what you do and you will attract others to you. With getting your heart and mind straight in the morning you can focus on the dollar producing activities without interruptions, the first two hours of your business day. Focus on these things first and do everything else when you can.
