Spring Cleaning Tips for a Lovely Summer Landscape
by Expert Contributor TJ Warner, Owner of JHL Landscaping
As our winter season ends and warmer temperatures invite us outdoors again, we notice that our lawns and landscaping are often in desperate need of some TLC! Spring clean up and mulching are a great way to get your landscape ready to look beautiful and able to delight you in the coming spring and summer months.
You can eliminate tree and leaf debris build up that occurred since your fall clean up and during the winter months by removing leaf/woody debris from turf areas and flower beds. As tempting as it may be to proceed with “the fun” of planting new seasonal annual flowering plants, you must first weed and re-mulch your flower beds.

Consider adding an eye-catching pop of color near your front walkway and entrance, in your garden beds/borders, around your patio or deck, and at your pool area. Create some “eye candy” around your property by using window boxes and planters that hold colorful flowering plants and complementary vines.
After your spring clean up and planting is complete, it’s important to set up and stay on a monthly care program, to properly care for your garden beds. By keeping up with those areas, you’ll create a well-manicured look for your home and yards for the entire season.
The spring and summer months are the perfect time to move forward with your plan of action for a hardscape or construction design and installation. An outdoor living area brings relaxation and a wonderful escape from being in the house. It also adds beautiful curb-appeal to your home. There’s plenty of options to consider: Some of the most popular are fireplaces, outdoor kitchens and pizza ovens.

Patios, walkways, retaining walls, and borders/edge stone are best installed between spring and fall. Landscape lighting can help showcase and accentuate those areas of design, allowing you to enjoy them not only during the day but during dusk and night.
Warmer days are right around the corner. Treat yourself to an enjoyable outdoor living experience this year by planning and taking action now!
