Entertain Outdoors This Summer!
It’s finally the kind of weather that draws us outdoors for lounging, retreats with nature and impromptu picnics! During mild and warm weather months, an outdoor oasis in your back yard extends your living space, allows you to comfortably and frequently enjoy nature, and gives you more options for entertaining.
The design and construction of outdoor living space that includes one or more focal areas made of different types of solid natural materials is called Hardscaping. Typical hardscape design considerations include the amount and shape of available space, how you intend or expect to use the space, how you want it to look, and your budget for the project.
The most basic and common hardscapes are patios and walkways, which can be made using many types of materials such as stone, pavers, flagstone, brick, and concrete. Large pavers or even larger slabs create a streamlined, more contemporary look and feel, and tend to install more quickly, enabling you to start enjoying your dream patio in less time. Covered patios provide rain-or-shine use. Beautiful patios and walkways can add a great deal of value to your home when they’re done right and flow as extensions of your home into your landscaping.
Other outdoor living focal areas are a kitchen or bar, and areas for dining and lounging. The possibilities are endless, with seating ideas and configuration designed around your personal taste and budget. An outdoor kitchen can include all the “accessories” (grill, pizza oven, stovetop burners, full-size oven, refrigerator, drawers for utensils and storage) or be as simple as some counter space for food prep and buffet-style dining.
Hardscapes often include a fire pit or a fireplace, for year-round ambiance and warmth on chilly evenings. Everyone loves sitting around a cozy fire pit, roasting marshmallows and creating memories with family and friends! Some hardscapes include water features such as ponds, waterfalls and fountains, all of which are soothing and mesmerizing.
