Creative Ideas for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service

A memorial service can be a somber and serious event, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect on all of the moments that happen in someone’s lifetime. At the heart of every funeral ceremony, there should be a celebration of life, regardless of where a person lived or what culture they lived in. Here are some artistic ideas for celebrating in a joyful and happy way the life of your loved one.

Guest Books

Guest books are a great way to encourage the family and friends at the service to write a memory or a letter to the one who has passed. The book can be decorated with photos and memorabilia, with spaces for the guests to write in. At the end of the service, the guest book will be filled with happy memories and kind words.

Memory Boards

These boards are a great way to display your loved one’s hobbies and passions during their life. The family can set up a table near the entrance doorway, and fill the table with creative projects and items that reflect those hobbies and passions. As an example, for a person who enjoyed traveling, the display could consist of pictures and perhaps souvenirs from their experiences around the globe. And for the family and friends at the service, the boards provide warm reminders of the best times of their loved one’s life.

Meaningful Flowers

Flowers are a beautiful way to customize the ceremony with the life lived. You can choose certain flowers based on their birth month, state or the color of the sports team they rooted for – the options are limitless. Choosing vibrant and meaningful flowers can bring a sense of light and peace.

Memorial Slideshow

You can combine home videos, graduation and holiday pictures with thoughtful words and music to create a presentation that draws laughter and tears from everyone in the room. Watching these memories as a group will bring everyone together to reminisce about their loved one.

The loved one you’re missing would likely want a somber memorial service to also provide guests with happiness and joy. The ways to celebrate each love one’s life with creativity and warmth are endless.
