Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Day Hair and Makeup Team

by Expert Contributors Michele Quinn & Brittany Naab of Blush Salon

Back in their day, your mother and grandmother (and mostly everyone) did their own hair and makeup for their wedding day. That's often not the case these days. Hiring a team of beauty professionals is now frequently high on a bride’s long list of priorities. It’s crucial that a bride chooses a team she feels comfortable with, and whose work she highly respects.

This is one responsibility a bride won’t have to stress about because it’s left to a team of professionals she knows she can count on. When choosing your bridal hair and makeup artist or team, it can be tempting to rely on social media, but here are a few things to keep in mind.

How do you picture your perfect wedding morning? Do you envision yourself getting out of bed just before your bridesmaids arrive and the pampering begins? Then, while everyone is enjoying mimosas and relaxing, your on-site beauty team promptly arrives, sets up and begins everyone’s hair and makeup. If that’s what you want, then as you’re considering professional options, ask these important questions.

Will they come to you, on site?

Having your hair and makeup team on site has become incredibly popular over the past 10 years. Just hanging with your girls while you all get beautified feels simply wonderful!

Who do you want on your team?

When hiring a hair and makeup artist or a team for your wedding day, you want to be sure that you’re hiring a team of true professionals. Get referrals from friends and coworkers. Check out their social media pages. And ask everyone you know to add their two cents.

Is this something they do every weekend?

It may be important to know whether the artist or team you choose does this on a regular basis or if is this a side hobby for them.

What products do they use?

The use of professional products is an absolute must. This is your wedding day, and your look needs to last all day and into the night. Be aware of the products that will be used and feel free to make requests. Budget hairspray isn’t going to cut it. When it comes to your wedding day makeup, let the makeup artist know if you have sensitive, oily or dry skin, and what products work for you, if you have a preference.

This is one day that is all about YOU! Keep in mind that these professionals are here to help you look your best, and make you and your bridesmaids look and feel beautiful. Don’t be afraid to speak up about what you like and don’t like.
