3D Computer Aided Design Optional Special Feet Service Beta Marine engines have been fitted into thousands of vessels around the world using our standard engine feet but when necessary we can design, manufacture and supply “Special Engine Feet so that your engine drops straight onto your vessels existing engine bearers.

Step 1 – Designing Your Special Feet Beta Marine will need to be advised of a number of accurate dimensions and or data to be able to produce a 3D model. There are different sets of information required, dependent upon your vessels bearer type, these are normally Parallel. To help identify your vessels bearer type visit: http://www.betamarine.co.uk/inland-special-feet/ Click on the drawing highlighted. An online form will come into view detailing and clarify the information required for your installation type. The form can be printed off for reference and used when you next visit your vessel to obtain the necessary data. As a sense check, please take some photographs of the installation, these can be uploaded for Beta Marine technicians to refer to once you revisit the above, enter your data and submit your form.

+44 (0)1452 723 492

sales@betamarine.co.uk

Step 2 – Approving Your Special Feet Once your special feet form & photographs have been received, Beta Marine technicians will produce a virtual reality 3D model, once they are satisfied it will full fill your installation needs, a 2D drawing will be created and a pdf returned to you. Once this has been received it will need to be carefully checked through and given approval before any manufacturing commences.

Step 3 – Manufacturing Your Special Feet Once approval has been given, we manufacture, paint and assemble your engine ready to drop onto your vessels existing engine bearers.     

‘Super Silent’ Engine Options

Beta 43 engine shown with optional PRM150 gearbox

Although our engines are quiet by comparison as standard, for customers who demand especially quiet cruising Beta Marine have developed a highly insulated acoustic enclosure option for an appropriate range of keel cooled engines. These enclosures reduces noise level down to a low 60 dB(A) when measured at seven metres under free field conditions at normal cruising speeds. To put this into context if you value the sound of wind, wildlife and water rather than your engine, your expectations will be fulfilled. Manufactured from ‘zintec’ steel and off white ‘powder coated’ paint to complement our engine colour, panel frame is bolted together for rigidity & strength and are lined with high quality 38mm flame retardant acoustic foam material (including a 4mm polymeric barrier), held in place with high temperature silicon adhesive.

Quick release “service” panels facilitate easy, simple and unobstructed access to the engine & ancillaries. Acoustic attenuating ducts provide air flow in and out of enclosure which comes complete with a ventilation fan & 3 metres of flexible ducting. The design allows the engine & gearbox unit to rest on flexible mountings within the enclosure and all necessary connections including speed & gear selection control cables, battery +ve & -ve terminals, fuel inlet & return, cooling water inlet & return, Calorifier feed & return, Dry exhaust outlet and the gearbox output power flange are all brought out of the enclosure ready for a quick and easy installation. For relevant engines available with this option please refer to the tables on each individual engine page.

Hybrid Propulsion Options Beta 50 engine shown with Hybrid electric motor/generator

The Beta Marine, Hybrid-Marine partnership has delivered a state of the art, robust and reliable hybrid solution for Narrowboats, Wide Beams & Dutch Barges. Hybrid systems are based on our renowned Greenline range of engines and available for the Beta 43 through to the Beta 115. Depending on model, engines are fitted with either a single or a twin motor/generator which provides 10kW or 20kW of electric propulsion and when in generation mode 5kW or 10kW of power capability. Which when added to the standard engine twin domestic battery alternators equates to a total of 9kW or 16kW of available power whist under diesel propulsion. All our Hybrids utilise a 48V battery bank that is essentially a vessels domestic power supply. Using powerful inverter technology it is possible to run all the electrical domestic appliances you would expect at home and eliminate the need for gas (cooking) on board. Depending on whether you opt for 400Ah or 800Ah battery bank up to 30kWh of energy can be stored, this would provide 8 to 12 hours of electric propulsion for a Narrowboat or 4 to 6 hours for a Wide Beam or Dutch

Barge. Or if this energy is retained for domestic use there will be an abundance of power available during sensitive hours with no need to run the engine. In electric propulsion mode, the powerful single 10kW or twin 20kW motor/s provide ample power for non-tidal inland waterways and allows a silent & serene departure, voyage and arrival, no matter the time of the day. Additionally this mode produces no exhaust fumes which is especially pleasant when passing through extended canal tunnels or negotiating large flights of locks as well as being beneficial to the environment. For every hour of diesel propulsion enough electrical energy is generated to power the electric motor for up to two hours of propulsion dependent on loads. By adopting this rule as best practice for diesel hybrid cycling, a significant improvement in fuel economy can be achieved together with an abundant storage of energy available for running domestic appliances For more detailed information please contact Beta Marine or Hybrid Marine.
