BETHEL NEWS Welcome Wendy Bennett With the recent retirement of Carol Lee as our bookkeeper in the Office, we are pleased to announce that Wendy Bennett is now our new Office Administrator. Her role will include the administration of the office as well as the bookkeeping duties. Wendy will be in the Office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Bethel Membership If you desire to become an official member of Bethel Church, membership classes will be held on Sunday October 19th & 26th at 9:30AM in the Board Room. Both classes are required for membership.

HELP UKRAINE From Ed Dickson

Over 1 million Ukrainians have been displaced from the war torn regions in Eastern Ukraine. Many of those people fled the Lugansk and Donetsk Oblasts (provinces) with just the clothes they were wearing.

The economy here (due to the increasingly strained relations with its major trading partner - Russia) is bad and getting worse. This will result in more people losing their jobs and a lack of jobs for those who have been relocated to other parts of Ukraine. Russia has already shut off Ukraine’s supply of natural gas (which is the main heating supply here) and many of the coal mines are not working because of the unrest .... and winter is coming very fast.

Loads of Love (Ed Dickson) is sending a container, from caring Canadians, of donated goods to Ukraine on November 7th. We invite you to participate by donating any of the following new or used items:

The government of Ukraine is already helping Loads of Love staff here to identify those people who are in the most desperate need... and our assistance will go through our network of over 1,000 churches here in

So, the problems are big … but the opportunities to really change lives here are enormous!

With regard to items for the containers we need... 1) Good used shoes and winter boots (especially children’s, but adults too) 2) Good used clothing and winter coats (especially children’s, but adults too) 3) Children’s vitamins, toothbrushes and toothpaste 4) Diapers (baby and adult)

5) Bed sheets, warm blankets 6) Wheelchairs 7) Bicycles 8) All types of school, craft and art supplies 9) All types of practical furniture (tables, chairs - the adjustable hospital beds that were in the last container were a BIG hit) 10) Good quality children’s toys 11) Soap, detergent Bethel will be collecting these items until Sunday October 26th, where we will then transport what is collected to the Loads of Love ministry centre in Chatham, Ontario.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT We are so thankful for the great response to Family Fun Day! We feel it was a huge success. I believe we gave a gift to our community in providing a fun, positive afternoon of good entertainment, all at no cost. The comments from our guests have been so appreciative of the day and all our volunteers. Not only did we have over 2,600 people at our church for the day (including over 160 volunteers), but also over 50 local businesses participated to make Family Fun Day the success it was. All the businesses that helped us are listed page 5 of this Connect Bulletin. Please feel free to express to any of these businesses your appreciation for their support of our event. And thank you so much to all our amazing volunteers! Family Fun Day simply could not happen without you! HEAVEN IN NOVEMBER The Billy Graham Ministry is releasing this November a 30 minute video on the subject of heaven. Many of you will remember a year ago we showed a video by Billy Graham on The Cross. I can still remember very well as

we showed the video on a Sunday morning, hearing the tears of thankfulness for the Cross of Christ and also the good number of people that responded for salvation that morning. We anticipate that this newest video on Heaven will also be a great blessing and will open people’s hearts to the Gospel of Christ. We will be showing the video on Sunday morning, November 16th. We are also desiring to make this video available to you that week to invite people into your home to show. This is a great opportunity to invite family and friends who need the Lord but may be reluctant to attend a church service. Let us know if you would be interested in having the video to show in your home to your invited guests. JESUS + CHURCH + CULTURE Beginning Sunday morning, October 19th, I will begin a 4 part message series I am entitling “Jesus + Church + Culture.” This series will include the following messages: 6 Modern Day Lies, What it really means to be a Christian, The Issue of Homosexuality, and The Pornography Trap. These messages will seek to establish a Christian worldview and

the reasons for it, rather than the anti-Christian secular message so loud in today’s culture. My desire is that these messages are not only a blessing and informative, but will also provide understanding what the Scripture actually teaches on these issues and be equipped in sharing your faith. PRAYER IN THE KEY It was John Wesley who said, “God does nothing except in answer to prayer.” The prayer ministry is strongly emphasized at Bethel. We believe that spiritual results require spiritual power. I am so thankful for those who are able to join us at our Wednesday night prayer meetings (6-7PM). We are averaging between 60 to 80 people each Wednesday night. They are powerful times of prayer. It is so encouraging in your own personal prayer life to have that boost each week in praying with others. If you are available, we would love to have you join us for this time of prayer. - Pastor Tim Gibb
