GRASSHOPPER FOR THE BEST WALK

PORTFOLIO

By using grasshopper, we find that several roads are best walk. This means that there are still some roads are not enough green, and they needs to be planted and transformed into best walk. The goal of our project is to turn” bad routes” into “best routes” by using green pavement system.

step4: establish green system to transform bad walk

step3 : find “ bad walk”: walks are shortest walk but are not best walk( no trees nearby)

step1 : find shortest walk

The shortest walk expresses the shortest route overlay from the road interactions, which are the closest points from the residential area, to 4 kinds of nodes: education centres, retails, parks and transport stations.

step2 : find best walk

By establishing passive pavement and planting trees along the road, the “ bad walks” are transformed into “ best walks” .

The comparisn of the best walk and the shortest walk. From this diagram, we can find that the SHORTEST walk may not be BEST walk.

The best walk illustrates the routes are not only shortest routes from the road interactions, which are the closest points from different residential areas to different nodes but also good shade and planting routes.

PERSPECTIVE

In order to boost relationships with two communities, the walls and fences are broken. In this way, the boundary of two communities is blurred. It is the community gardens that attracts people from different communities to go outside and meet with each other. Also, planting is a very popular activity among Chinese elderly. Breaking the walls and fences is a small change, however, it seems that people have an opportunity to meet, talk, grow, play and enjoy more colourful life.
