A proud moment for BGA... ...and our six fully trained Police Cadets. Six pupils from BGA have successfully completed their Police Cadet Training with the City Of London Police Force. The Passing out Ceremony took place on Tuesday the 9th of October. It followed months of training which included a formal interview, Marching Drill, physical training and a commitment to the City Of London Police. To add to this occasion it was the first time in 28 years that young people from outside the square mile had successfully completed the training. It was a very proud moment watching them march out in full uniform into the Great Hall at the Honourable Artillery Company in Central London with The Commissioner of the City of London Police, Family and friends looking on. The cadets have given up their free time each Tuesday to attend and take part in events. Now, as fully trained cadets they will be on duty in each major event that occurs in the capital, along with enrolling of the Duke Of Edinburgh award scheme. Special congratulations go to Melda who won the most improved cadet award. “Governor Mr Cox, Miss Cradduck and I were honoured to be part of this special evening. A great credit to our Academy PC Duncan Evans

Word of the week. interpretation

Lead Linguists

noun

What do you love about learning languages? This week some of our year 7 students told us why they love languages. Do you love languages too? The MFL department are looking for more 'Lead Linguists' from any year group to join the team, so if you have a passion for languages, and would be excited about promoting languages at BGA, please speak to Azara Tahiru in Y11.

Meet the Tutor Our recent Meet the Tutor Events provided an opportunity for parents and carers to get to know their child’s tutor and to discuss their progress. We were very pleased that 98% of parents and carers attended our Year 7 Meet the Tutor event and we hope that next week’s Year 10 event will receive similar support. Bethnal Green Academy works in partnership to ensure our students succeed.

the action of explaining the meaning of something: the interpretation of data. • an explanation or way of explaining: this action is open to a number of interpretations. • a stylistic representation of a creative work or dramatic role: two differing interpretations, both bearing the distinctive hallmarks of each writer's perspective. Our Word of the week is sourced from our Focus Words list which is compiled by our teaching staff and is designed to include the sort of keywords, terms and phrases regularly used in their subject areas. The full list, complete with dictionary definition hyperlinks can be found on the Students page of our website.

Are you an aspiring author? Get published in Word on the Street! You might have heard of Abigail Gibbs. At 18, she has a sixfigure deal with HarperCollins for her novel, The Dark Heroine: Dinner With a Vampire. She started writing her book at 14 and published it herself on Wattpad. Her success has inspired her to encourage other young writers to try and publish their own stories. "Keep writing," she advises, "It doesn't matter what other people think, just keep writing what you want to. Eventually you will get better, and you'll find your voice. It's perseverance; you've got to hone your craft." Abbie says that Wattpad helps encourage you to carry on writing, and because of the comments and feedback you can access instant praise and constructive criticism, which is important to help you get better." If you are an aspiring author or poet we would love to print your work in Word on the Street. Ask your tutor to send in an extract from your novel, your poem or a review of a brilliant book you have enjoyed! We can’t promise a six-figure book deal but your words will be read by many people!

Word Fragments

In this puzzle, a word fragment is given, and you must think of an English word that contains the fragment - that is, you must form a word by adding letters to the beginning and/or the end of the fragment. You may not add letters to the middle of the fragment, nor may you rearrange the letters given. How many words can you make?

This week’s fragment is:

atula

Associated Words In this puzzle a list of words is given. To solve the puzzle, think of a single word that goes with each to form a compound word (or word pair that functions as a compound word). For example, if the given words are volley, field, and bearing, then the answer would be ball, because the word ball can be added to each of the other words to form volleyball, ballfield, and ball bearing.
