About Me

Originally from Janesville, Wisconsin, Betsy Cook resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A student at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, she will graduate in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Visual Communication. Betsy is a member of the graphic design program. In the coming semesters she is looking forward to developing her aesthetics and communication through design. From drawing, to video, to graphic design, Betsy is interested in many varieties of visual art. She uses this media to develop a better understanding of herself, and visually express her perspective on the world. In 2011, her work was juried into a national scholastic competition and was displayed in local government offices throughout Wisconsin. Betsy’s collegiate work has been juried into both the Freshmen and Sophomore Peck School of the Arts annual showcase and is eligible for scholarship awards. She has also taken part in freelance work for friends, family, and anyone interested. Betsy is interested in a career in Graphic Design and is looking forward to future opportunities.

Grid Systems

For the following projects we were to create a set of posters, postcards, business cards, email blasts and icons that were to advertise the The Design Entrepreneur Showcase eent presented by the Design and Visual Communications Department at UW-Milwaukee. For each project we had to follow a set of objectives: to create an effective grid by using heirarchial elements, form typographically strong and functional grids, create effective promotional materials for the Design Entrepreneur Showcase, and use transparencies, shapes and angles to design a functional grid system.

Infographic

The following infographic project was designed to inform the audiences of a person, place or thing that represents the city of Milwaukee. Being that MillerCoors was one of the original businesses within the Milwaukee area, I felt it was fitting to represent it’s historical and factual information. The final panel was 8 feet tall and 14 inches wide. Each panel represented is a timeline through history of Milwaukee’s oldest business, MillerCoors.

Metaphorical Book

This is a short snapshot of my metaphorical book. The full book is another Issue in my profile titled Anatomy vs Allegory. With this project we were to choose a universal symbol to be represented symbolically throughout the book. I chose to represent the heart in a physical and emotional sense to explain the dual meaning.

Allegory

Anatomy Betsy Cook

Function

IT’S YOUR HEART

IT’S ALIVE

IT’S PUMPING BLOOD

The cardiac veins returns deoxygenated blood from the myocardium to the right atrium. This blood then flows back to the lungs for reoxygenation and removal of carbon dioxide.
