Letter from P U B L I S H E R ST. LUCIE
Prospective, my friends, that’s what was brought to my attention recently and what I would like to share about. I think at some point or another we have all found something to complain about. So, I want to pass this along: “If you could, change your circumstances, do something about it. If you cannot change your circumstances, change your prospective.” Easier said than done, I know. My intention this year is to start my day writing 5 things that I am grateful for. Crazy how it helps keep my focus-prospective-on a happy heart. “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6:45 Just as a reminder, we can always start our day/year over any moment we choose in a heartbeat. Today is a good day!
Hello dear readers, Wishing that your new year is off to a wonderful start. Happy February! This is my kind of weather. Yes, it has been a bit chilly so far this year. But, I am pretty sure that we have just about the best weather in the country (loving it). Some of you may be grumbling at me right now but I get to wear my winter garb. When the temp dips below 600 that’s when you’ll see me in my coat, hat, gloves and scarf. If you do not receive or have the time to pick up our magazine please log onto blmmag.com or email us at betterliving@betterliving.com for convenient home delivery.
We are in the heart of high season and there is a lot going on in St. Lucie. The St. Lucie County Fair is back and the Mets spring training begins this month. There are quite a few holidays to celebrate over the next couple of months. Hope you have fun! Happy Valentine’s Day, St. Patty’s Day and a blessed Passover and Easter! In gratitude & with great deal of happy,
See you in the spring

recommendation, Nick explained: “Every day has a new personality and the community has its own taste. Some people like the wraps, and some people prefer the bowls.”
Open just over a month, the new 3 Natives in Tradition has already become a community fave (judging by the steady stream of customers). I was greeted by the smiling faces of owners Jeanetta and Nick, relaxing island music and an all-around beautiful space. When asked for a

Many times I have heard that good Italian food doesn’t exist in Port St. Lucie! However, that certainly is no longer true! Being of Italian decent, with a mother who cooked like a culinary chef, I am here to tell you, that you don’t have to look any further than Panariello’s at its new location in Coco Vista Plaza (near Cameo/PSL Blvd). Owners Mike and Rita have a first class operation! The food, the decor (great art work, Italian floor tiles, etc.) and the wait staff all shine! They have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and have perfected their way of doing business! It’s not only beautiful, well decorated, bright and clean, it is also family

So many enticing options, all fresh and natural. The Mission Beach Bagel, ($8), sounded tasty and it was - a large warm toasted Everything bagel with tuna salad, avocado, cream cheese, tomato, cucumber and sprouts. I think The Tex Mex Salad ($10.50) provided the entire daily requirement of vegetables! Made with chicken, loads of greens and fresh toppings with a bright and creamy avocado dressing. Any wrap ($9.50) can also be a salad. Jeanetta enticed us with a popular Acai Bowl - The Bird ($6.50 small, $9 large). With layers of acai berry puree (sorbet), peanut butter and granola topped with banana, strawberry, pineapple, kiwi fruit and shaved co-
friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Their menu consists of everything ranging from pizza, subs, salads to mouth watering entrees! My latest visit consisted of salad, which was crisp and delicious, pasta fagoli (just like mamma’s) for my guest, followed by 4-cheese tortellini with prosciutto di Parma! Mamma Mia, que deliciosa! The veal parmigiana was equally superb, tender and cooked to perfection! The garlic rolls are the best you will ever taste. Also, noteworthy, is a FREE bottle of wine when 2 entrees are ordered. All desserts are made in house and you will not be able to resist any of them! The cream puffs are a taste of heaven, the cheesecake, the pasticiotti, the sfogliatelle (my father’s
favorite), are all diet breakers! I have tried them all! The espresso and cappuccino are made in a state of the art machine and are oh soo good!!
I highly recommend Panariello’s and guarantee you will not be disappointed! Tell then Nancy from BLM sent you! Beer and wine are served. Delivery is available. Catering is also available for that special event. Open 7 Days- 11am-9pm 466 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd. 772-204-2100

Protect Your Heart
In today’s world it is a bit tricky knowing how to protect your heart from physical and emotional stressors.
taken with warm organic milk and helps transport nutrients deep into the tissue. It also removes deep-seated toxins.
Listed below is three of my favorite nutrients to use on a daily basis to strengthen your body and give your heart a little extra protection to navigate through your life.
ASHWAGANDA is
SHILAJIT
is a Sanskrit word meaning "exuding from the rocks." It is an end product of plant matter trapped within the Himalayan Mountains which decomposed and then became preserved due to pressure. It is a resin that oozes out from the Himalayan Mountains due to the heating effect of the sun in summer. It is brown to blackish-brown in color. This fresh resin is soft in texture, slimy to touch, pure and heavy. It is soluble in water. This is one mineral-rich natural substance! Shilajit is a natural source for all of the minerals required by the body. There is hardly any function of the body which is not supported by Shilajit. It is used for nourishment and as a natural support for renewing vitality and physical strength. It also provides unique sexual vitality when

often referred to as Indian ginseng. Often used in Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwaganda regulates the immune system and eases anxiety. Ashwaganda has been used in Eastern medicine for over 2,500 years and has immunomodulating effects that boost your immune system and aid the body in lowering cortisol levels.
RHODIOLA (rhodiola
rosea), or golden root, is a potent adaptogen that has been the focus of much research. Rhodiola provides a buffer to stress-related mental and physical fatigue. Rhodiola suppresses the production of cortisol and increases levels of stress-resistant proteins.
Studies have found that it restores normal patterns of eating and sleeping after stress; lowers mental and physical fatigue; and protects against oxidative stress, heat stress, radiation and exposure to toxic chemicals. Rhodiola also protects the heart and
liver, increases use of oxygen, improves memory, and may even extend longevity.

In spite of its tropical look, a Canary Island date is one of the best cold hardy palms - fine anywhere in Zone 9 and southward. This palm is moderately salt-tolerant and needs a full sun location. It produces ornamental fruits resembling dates in spring and early summer (they’re edible but not very tasty). 772-812-0731 B A G E L B R O T H E R S O F N Y. C O M

Darrell Winfree, Commercial Realtor:
SPACES
THE COMMERICAL OVERVIEW 2018
Happy New Year! 2018 is developing Hap into a great year for Commercial Real Estate, there are new buildings sprouting out of the ground throughout the county. e commercial space market is strong and that is a great sign that there is stabili stability in the business sector, even some moderate growth! is will ultimately adjust prices for the different types of commercial space, and increases have already started in the retail sector as well as some office properties. One area lagging behind is the Multi-Family sector, and there has not been much de development in our area for that type space, even as demand increases for it. If you are contemplating a move this year, keep in mind that many places that were empty for long periods of time now have tenants. ere are some areas in the retail sector that have multiple openings but as the surrounding spaces ll up so will these sp spaces. Expect to see some price adjustment upward for all classes and types of commercial real estate county wide; this is normal, because this is the point where commercial real estate is reeecting its recovery.

What is Home Equity? Home equity is basically the difference in the home’s fair market value and the outstanding balance of all liens on the property. If your home has a mortgage loan, it’s the amount still owed on the mortgage loan subtracted from the home’s market value. Home equity is an incredibly important asset to a homeowner because it has the ability to grow, and home
equity that increases is a good thing for any homeowner. To better understand the Selling or Buying process please call today for free Real Estate consultation and home market evaluation. South Florida’s Real Estate Leader since 1926.

of Wine Tasting
The ladies of the Roseann Gregory Cancer Foundation (RGCF), are at it again! They are kicking off an exciting new year with a return to their old stomping grounds, Tutto Fresco, for fun night of wining and dining. The event will take place on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 6pm – 9pm at Tutto Fresco located at 9501 Reserve Blvd., Port Saint Lucie, FL 34986. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased on line at www.Roseanngregory.org, Vivid Salon and Spa in SLW and Tutto Fresco. The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres by Chef Pasquale, an array of wines, music, a 50/50 drawing and raffles. You can find more information on this event in the foundation’s Facebook page, Roseann Gregory Cancer Foundation, Inc. This event has been an absolute hit in the past. The ladies of RGCF credit the success of these events to their loyal supporters who are always eager to show their support for a worthy cause and have fun while they are at it. They also credit Joey Gambina,
28
Chef Pasquale LaMar and the welcoming staff of Tutto Fresco, who from the very beginning have been a close member of the RGCF “family.”
For us, it is about so much more than an event or even raising funds, it is about partnerships within our community to help support those battling or affected by cancer right here in our community,” said Mary Freitas, President of the
Roseann Gregory Cancer Foundation. If you have ever attended an event hosted by the RGCF you know this to be true, the feeling of community and join efforts are evident in the many relationships formed from a common purpose, to find a cure for cancer. To learn more about the Roseann Gregory Cancer Foundation or to donate, please visit www.Roseanngregory.org or visit their Facebook page at Roseann Gregory Cancer Foundation, Inc.

It is my pleasure to discuss the annual observance of age related macular degeneration (ARMD) recognized each February. According to Wikipedia 6.2 million people were affected worldwide in 2015. ARMD is a growing concern for the next several decades due to an aging “baby boomer” generation and an increase in more people living longer. As we age our joints, bones and other structures degenerate. For the eye, it is the inner lining called the retina that is affected. The retina acts like film in a camera and takes
www.facebook.com/Dr-Lynne-Erbe www.eyedoctorstlucie.com
a picture of what you’re aiming at. In ARMD there is damage to the center of vision so images like faces and everyday activities like reading, personal grooming or driving can become blurred, distorted or missing. Peripheral vision is unaffected. Risk factors include age, genetics, race (Caucasians especially females) and lifestyle choices. There is no cure (for aging) but early detection can identify beginning stages and direct treatment. Antioxidant supplements, UV protection, and smoking cessation (smoking doubles

the risk) are non medical therapies that can help slow the progression. Medical therapies may include laser, injections and a new FDA approved implant for advanced ARMD. Getting older no longer means being old. Preserving your vision can lead to many meaningful moments, help retain independence and contribute to a better quality of life. Please join me in celebrating save your vision month by getting an annual comprehensive dilated eye exam especially if your 60+ or by passing this information on to loved ones.

Pastor Mike’s Corner View When Where You’ve Been is Keeping You from Where You Want to Go Can You Afford to Sell Your Business? Many sellers have no real idea of how their business supports them and their families. And what it will look like after the business has been sold. So here is a short list of things to consider, before you market your business for sale. And as always I am available for a free consultation to discuss any part of the process. • As the business has become more profitable over the years, the seller has ratcheted up spending to match. • The seller has not taken stock of personal expenses the business pays on behalf of the owner and/or family. • The seller has not considered how to pay for or replace those perks, post-sale. • The seller has no idea how much money he or
she will need post-transaction to maintain the current lifestyle. • The seller is typically not well diversified financially and has saved very little outside of the business. • The business usually represents the largest liquid asset the seller owns. • The seller expects the business sale proceeds, net of taxes and fees, to provide sufficient resources to maintain or increase his or her lifestyle. • The seller does not know the range of value for the business in today’s marketplace. • A primary goal has been to pay the least amount of tax each year by limiting the profits realized on the seller’s business, regardless of entity structure.

Are you dancing with yesterday’s shadows? Where in our past is the function of our present behavior? All of us bring our past with us into our present relationships. It is possible to break the patterns of negative behavior we inherited. Through the generations, events occur and experiences are encountered that profoundly impact us -- for better and for worse. We cannot deny our past, but we must not be bound by our past. We ought to learn from its lessons, and in the process, break these patterns of destructive emotions and behavior. Some of us have to “Get Past Our Past”
We need to look into the mirror of our heart, mind and soul in order to Reflect and become aware of who we are, where we come from, and what we bring into our relationships. This reflection reveals our strengths and our emotional challenges, our scars as well as the impact our original families continue to have on each one of us. It is
only through our conscious awareness that real change can begin. In the rooms of recovery there is a step that requires one to take a personal inventory of one’s life. When this is done certain character defects are revealed and we become more aware of: “why we are, who we are”. When we get honest with ourselves and with God we can begin to make the necessary changes to have a more serene life. There's an old saying: “if nothing changes, nothing changes”. I can ask God to help me; in fact there is scripture that addresses that exact request. (Psalm 139:23-24 GNT) “Examine me, O God, and know my mind, test me, and discover … if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way” My past doesn’t have to be my future. I don’t have to dance with yesterday’s shadows. My prayer is that this New Year will be a year of positive change, full of Godly wisdom and direction. God Bless and Happy New Year.

The Single Mom and OMO by Amanda Carroll
T
he mad rush of packing is over. The house is quiet. The kids are with their dad. Now what? You’re on your own, or as I like to call it OMO (On My Own).
I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest challenges after my divorce was what to do with the free time that came during visitations. At first, it felt like I was missing an arm. I was almost zombie-like trying to get things accomplished around the house while the kids were gone. I would make these to-do lists two pages long complete with trips to Home Depot, stock-ups at Costco and scrubbing every floor and toilet in the house, but I was never able to fully cross anything off my to-do list. Not accomplishing “the list” was making me feel like a failure. I was miserable and would sit on my couch, pray, cry, and watch too much TV. Then, I realized I had an amazing opportunity that most moms never get, free time! I free you from the guilt of enjoying your OMO (on my own) time. It’s okay.
It’s all about perspective. You have a choice. You can wallow in your OMO time, or you can seize the day! Whether it’s every other
34
weekend, one night a week, or 6 weeks over the summer vacation, decide to enjoy it.
5 OMO Rules
1. Thou shalt not make endless to-do lists. Choose one thing to tackle, one thing. 2. Thou shalt sleep. Do not stay up all night watching movies! Turn the TV off and catch up on sleep. Ahhhh….
3. Thou shalt do something fun. Call your girlfriends and plan a lunch or even more fun a girls night out! Try something new! Go paddle boarding, take a trip to a new city. It’s key to have something planned so you could look forward to OMO instead of dreading it.
4. Thou shalt carry a small purse. This is one of my favorite things of OMO time. Little cute purses. There is no need to carry a huge bag that holds diapers, snacks, first aid kits, and a change of clothing for your children. All you need is your ID, cash and lipstick and you are ready to roll, mama!
5. Thou shalt read and write. Curl up with a great book that will further your relationship with God, inspire you to go for your dream, or help you become a better parent. Use this
time to grow and learn. You could even track your progress by writing all your thoughts and experiences during this time in a journal. That way years later you can look back and have evidence of how far you’ve come. You were designed to live a life you love. You should not feel like you are living a half-life and have to go “underground” during those times you are OMO. The truth is you are never really OMO. There is a God that is crazy about you. He wants to be your first love. He wants to live your life with you. He wants you to trust Him, not worry so much, and allow Him to work out the details. You are not wasted. You were not thrown out with the trash. You matter. If you commit yourself to His design for your life now, you will never feel OMO.
Jesus said, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” –John 10:10
So go have some OMO fun! You deserve it. Amanda Carroll is the afternoon host on Christian FM, as well as a voice of encouragement for single moms. To find out more, visit amandacarroll.org
