The four elements of western culture are: EARTH, AIR, FIRE, and WATER. Sometimes as humans we often mistake what is freely available to us as not as effective as Western medicine.

Let’s start with Earth. Any natural ground cover emits an electron charge that is negative. Negative in this sense is very important. All living things need this to not only survive but thrive. In the sixties rubber soles were created and we lost our connection to the earth. Clint Ober is the innovator behind the Grounding Movement and author of Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever? In 1995 he developed a working hypothesis: Grounding the human body to the Earth normalizes the functioning of all the body’s systems. The body utilizes the earth’s electrical potential and free electrons to maintain its internal electrical stability, normalizing all its self-healing systems. Now there are over 20 research studies on Grounding. Just think all you must do is walk on the beach or in the woods, or just your backyard (if your grass isn’t treated) and start feeling better. It amazed me that I had an aversion to the grass in the beginning of purposely grounding, luckily now I can lay down without the worry of red ants attacking! I suggest watching the documentary The Earthing Movie on You Tube.

Air, hopefully this one doesn’t need a lengthy discussion. I find that respiratory issues such as asthma, allergies, COPD, Bronchitis, Emphysema, and Pneumonia are much more commonplace. A simple search shows you that more than one billion people suffer from either acute or chronic respiratory conditions. Each year four million people die prematurely from chronic respiratory disease. Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States.

Breathwork is beneficial and honestly life changing. Meditation which has been recognized around the world for its healing abilities uses breathing as its foundation. Wim Hof, also known as “The Superhuman” made breath work cool even for the younger generations. He has shown millions of people that doing his breathing exercise can make significant changes in your health, and once again at no cost! He has free videos on You Tube, my favorite one is found on my website http://Joannesnutritionworld.com. Here in Florida, there is no shortage of the Fire Element. Fire is considered to be both hot and dry. The Sun definitely has healing abilities starting with your eyes that need light to help set your body’s internal clock. Sunlight helps boost a chemical in your brain called serotonin, and that can give you more energy and help keep you calm, positive and focused.

Water, the most coveted element on earth, needs to be appreciated and respected. Our earth as well as the human body is 72% water. I always suggest eating lots of veggies especially cucumbers, celery and bok choy to hydrate without the feeling of needing to rush to the restroom. The kidneys, bladder, and urinary system depend on our dietary choices as well as the abstinence from pain relievers which hurt the kidneys.
