FAMILY-FRIENDL Y FESTIVAL IN STOKE-ON-TRENT CITY CENTRE
STOKE-ON-TRENT CITY CENTRE BID IS EXCITED TO WELCOME TO OUR CITY CENTRE A BRAND NEW, FAMILY-FRIENDLY AND FREE FESTIVAL CELEBRATING OUR WONDERFUL WORLD AND ONE WHICH SEEKS TO ASK AND ADDRESS THOSE QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW WE CAN ALL START MAKING SUSTAINABLE CHOICES TODAY FOR A BETTER WORLD TOMORROW. In this three-day event, Better World Festival brings together speakers, activists, pioneers, charities, community groups and everyone with an interest in creating positive change, through an extensive line-up spanning world music, workshops group exercise classes, panel discussions, meditation sessions, family activities and so much more, designed to inspire new ways of thinking. With three music stages, a Kidzone, two areas hosting an exciting programme of activities focusing on the environment, unity, and well-being, a chill-out retreat, a bar area and an artisan market, you’re bound to take something away from our special festival and be inspired, plus, we’ll be launching a number of exciting, sustainable initiatives over the weekend. Read on to check out everything that’s going on at Better World Festival.

Story Quest by Stoke Reads
Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August Copies of the Connecting Stories ‘City of Kindness’ anthology will be hidden within The Potteries Centre! The anthology is a compilation of stories, poems and reflections from 7-11 year olds across Stoke-on-Trent. Hunt the centre to find these books – when you find one, you can take it, keep it and read it. Stoke Reads is a National Literacy Trust initiative that aims to inspire families across the city to read together, helping parents to support their children’s literacy skills. They run exciting community initiatives including Story Quest, a trail that guides families around local outdoor spaces while they complete physical and written challenges, meet local celebrities, discover fascinating facts and travel through time to uncover local history. To find out more visit their stall based in Kidzone (Bethesda Garden) across the weekend.

Chillout Retreat
Better World Festival's programme is one that stimulates and treats all the senses, provokes thought and conversation and will keep you busy from Friday to Sunday - so we know it's important to take some time away from the hustle and bustle. That's why we've got not one, but TWO Chillout Retreats for you to enjoy! The lovely Smithfield and The Hive at The Potteries Centre will become zones of relaxation for the entirety of the festival to help you come back down to Earth - expect soothing music from DJs, comfy furniture to unwind in, and a calm, tranquil atmosphere for the whole family to bask in - as well as some rays hopefully!
One of two of Better World Festival’s Chillout Retreats is located at The Hive at the Potteries Centre. It’s the ideal place to head to, to sink in comfortable furniture whilst listening to gentle music from DJs – the perfect way to unwind whilst taking a break from the festival’s packed programme. Timings, locations and line-ups subject to change due to reasons beyond the BID's control

#BETTERWORLDFESTIVAL
A major focus for Better World Festival is giving a helping hand to our community groups and charities, who in turn dedicate themselves to supporting our lessadvantaged societies and helping them to thrive. We’re welcoming dozens of charities - local and UK-wide - to chat and engage with the public about their all-important work during the weekend. Many of the stalls also have lots of fun activities for you to partake in from hook-a-duck and tombolas to merch giveaways and African food cooking demos, so be sure to pay them all a visit if you can.

37 17 BETTER WORLD FESTIVAL IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE STOKE-ON-TRENT CITY CENTRE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID). The BID is a business alliance set up to promote and support a safe, welcoming, and engaging city centre destination. In July 2018, businesses voted in favour of the BID which will run for a 5-year term with the possibility of renewal 2023. The BID involved over 430 businesses in the area who contribute an annual levy to the BID. Priorities for the BID include:
TOTEM TAKEOVER. TOTEM Stoke are hosting a mixed-arts area at Better World Festival, bringing together local musicians of all genres, performances and theatrical shows, creative drop-in workshops, poetry and spoken word, illustrations and painting, interactive and collaborative art installations, artisan stalls and markets, DJ collective showcases and more – all of which will be taking place at The Slamwich Club’s new outdoor venue THE BACKYARD, and along Albion Street, from Friday to Sunday. Holly Johnson and Georgia Kliment-Temple make up the TOTEM Stoke team and they are thrilled to be a major part of the festival line-up: “After having to put our 2020 plans on hold earlier this year, we are super excited to announce we will be working with the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID to bring TOTEM TAKEOVER to Better World Festival, having been awarded funding through the BID’s CREATE fund. “The event is right up our street as it gives us a platform to showcase the phenomenal level of creativity in our city. Plus, we’re weaving in the all-important sustainability theme through poetry and spoken word on topics of sustainability, environmentalism, and our world. “We’re also excited to host our signature TOTEM song swap, where musicians of varying genres will swap and create covers of each other’s music to be performed exclusively at the festival!”
Place Management to improve the look and feel of the area, make it safer and provide a warm welcome to visitors Place Marketing to increase footfall through positive promotion and events in the city centre Business Community Support to aid businesses in the BID area through networking opportunities, training and growth strategies
