don Rupert Brooke, an English poet once said, “Hearts are at Peace, under an English heaven. Watching all of the locals walking by and taking in the historical feeling London creates, has me so mesmorized by the beauty and uniqueness that you see in the most famous English city. Millions of people travel here every year to see what sights have them captured to see London through the British eyes...
E
very year people come from all over the world to Europe. Of those people, at least half of them make a stop at one of the most popular cities in the world, London. London has been one of the most viewed cities in the world and continues to draw a crowd. It has a diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its
boundaries. Whats great about this city is that it has an abundance of life and and excitment. Theres so much, historically, that you can see and expirence within the city limits, you could spend days on just one side. Walking along the streets you see so many different people and cultures. It is the UK’s largest and most populous metropolitan area and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures.

Parliment-Big Ben Proclaimed “the mother of all Parliaments”, Big Ben is possibly London’s most famous landmark. “Big Ben” does not refer to the whole clocktower, but to the huge thirteen ton bell that strikes the hour.

any of us visit new sights and explore new adventures every day. But what is the one thing that all of us do to keep track of it? Thatʼs right, take pictures. We all take pictures to document our favorite things and places. Have you ever considered where the best places to take pictures could be? Visiting famous places and sights, is where its at. Most people that like to travel, also love to take thier ideal photographs at every destination. Sometimes the shot can be hard, becuase of lighting or weather and such. There are a lot of places that offer a great photograph when you think of it. Like the Eiffel Tower, Great Wall, and the Great Pyramids. However, how do you create that one shot? How do you get it to look the way you invisioned? Several key factors play into this concept. Capturing the beauty of your shot is pretty easy. Typically the best places to take photographs of, already have a beauty within itself. The difference is creating that one angle that will take everything that place has to offer and producing it into one photo. You should also consider the best time to go to your destination and take your pictures. Like if you wanted a great picture of
the Taj Mahal, you wouldnʼt go in the dead of winter. For one, your light would be horrific and second, you want to be able to have action in your photos. I doubt that the Taj gets a lot of visitors in November. Take your time with your photos. You want to be able to capture one specific moment and make it last forever. Most people would stress if theres too much going on and you canʼt stand or take the photo where you want. So just focus on enjoying the time you have to take the photo. Have fun with it, if you dont take pleasure in the process, you wonʼt remember how good it felt to take the photo. Some quick tips to creating your best shot: 1. Dont be afraid to get creative. Use different angles. 2. Watch your lighting. If youre taking a picture at night, know the range of your flash. 3. Typically the most candid shots are the best. Try not to have it staged. 4. Take a seris of shots. The best one might not always be your first. 5. Also, take the shots both horizontal and vertical ways to produce a different kind of photgraph.

Joann, USAI went to Kuekenhoff Garden in Amsterdam with two of my friends, Shelina and Missy, and we were getting on the bus at Lakenheath, where we’re from. Shelina and I made a deal with Missy, we gave our “bus” stuff to Missy, so she could save our seats, and we’d take care of the suitcases. So Missy went and pushed and shoved to get to the front of the line when the bus got there. She was throwing our stuff into seats to reserve them for us and she was so successful that all three of us had our own seat without anyone beside us. All was good until the bus driver took one last head count before the bus took off, and as he was walking down the aisle he looked out the window and asked whose red suitcase was sitting on the curb. Shelina didn’t even look out the window she just busted out laughing, go figure it was Missy’s suitcase sitting there. She almost had all her clothes left on the curb. Shelina and I had forgotten to grab her suitcase and put it on the bus, we were so concerned about getting our luggage under the bus and which seat we were going to get.

Dara, EnglandA business man called and had a question about the documents he needed in order to fly to China. After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded him he needed a visa. “Oh no I don’t, I’ve been to China many times and never had to have one of those.” I double checked and sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I told him this he said, “Look, I’ve been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express.”

LANGUAGES OF THE LANDS
Who taught you how to speak French? I grew up in Haiti until I was about 5, so my whole family is from there. It’s actually a different version of French that I speak, but I can virtually understand any version.
How has it helped your life in the states? Well for one, it’s easier for me to learn other languages like Spanish. However, it’s also confusing because I mix them up a lot. There are a lot of similarities so the pronunciation can be hard to remember and confusing if you don’t pay attention.
Do you plan to use this later in life? Yes, actually, I’m studying international relations, so that I can become and ambassador. It’s been my dream for a while to become the American ambassador in a French speaking country.
Samantha Holden-French
How did you learn to speak Spanish? My mom is from Puerto Rico so I grew up using it my entire life. I live in a Spanish speaking community and I go to a Spanish speaking church near my house. It’s hard to get by without it.
How has it been useful in your life? It’s been helpful because Spanish is like the second most used language, so if I go somewhere where the people don’t use English, I always try and use Spanish.
Do you see yourself using it later? Yes actually, I’m graduating this year, and before I go off to graduate school, I want to take a month this summer and backpack through Europe. I think knowing one of the languages used there, is going to make it easier for me to get around from country to country.
Jason Cruz- Spanish
How did you learn to speak German?
Katy Schaper-German
I actually grew up in Berlin with my family and went to a school where you had to know both German and English just to get in.
Have you used it in your life a lot? Yes, I’m in the states right now to go to a University, and I can get college credit for being fluent in another language.
How would you use it later? Yea, I definitely want to go back and live in Germany for a little while, then maybe I’ll come back to the states. I’m really interested in immigrant relations and I would like to help German people become more aquatinted with America and American Society.
Blake Pacheco-Portuguese When did you learn Portuguese? My mom had to teach me when I was younger because my grandmother on her side doesn’t know English. I had to know it to be able to talk to my family.
Have you used it much elsewhere? Not really, mainly whenever we go to visit my family and my grandmother in Portugal. I love going to see them and being able to talk to them in another language.
Do you plan to use it later in life? Yeah, I definitely want to, right now I’m in school for Child development because I love kids. So I plan to teach English in Portugal or maybe even work for a Portuguese adoption agency someday.
