A PIECE OF ADVICE… In this issue our fans write letter to Aunt Abby. In this month’s issue we have the letter of one of our fans asking Aunt Abby some advice. Dear Aunt Abby,

“If I could go back to my childhood, I would collect a lot of friends. Because if I had continued studying in that school, I would have had a lot of friends in elementary. This year I met some classmates and I got confused because I studied in too many schools so I didn´t remember where I know them from. So If I had lived near that school, I wouldn’t have changed from school. That´s why I´m doubting st nd If I change my kids from school they will live the same. They´re now in 1 and 2 grade, what do you suggest? Your constant reader, Any

Dear Any,

Any, your kids are in the first years of school, maybe you can evaluate the reasons why you have to move them, so if the reasons are financial situation or distance, here in Caracas you should consider the change because the situation will not change. But if you move them to get a catholic or bilingual education, they will take a lot of years for adaptation. And those aspects in education make the difference. Sincerely, Aunt Abby

WHEELS AROUND THE ATITLAN LAKE

I

t was a dream that began when I discovered that I like to bike. There were a lot of situations that made it a dream. First of all, I worked in San Pedro La Laguna, a town in the river of the lake for six months in 2011. It was a wonderful experience because this town is cosmopolitan, so you can taste varied cuisine and it was cheaper and calmer than Panajachel. They used to have electronic concerts on Fridays and live music shows in some pubs. So I really enjoyed those months. During those months too I discovered my knee illness, and four years ago they were operating my knee. I had a laser surgery. This condition prohibits me to do impact exercise, so I found benefits in biking and I began doing stationary bike, by the time my brother had shown me city cycling, I began with the beginners ones, but suddenly I felt them easy, so I changed of level. I used to go out with a group called Bicirol, so they made a middle or advance level once a month, each one about 60-80 kilometers and with different levels of difficulty. So my brother told me about this other activity that they had the first Sunday of each December. But my daughter began dancing on 2013 and in her academy they made the final presentation the same Sunday of each December. So I preferred on 2013 to see my daughter’s presentation. On 2014 my brother didn´t go. One week before the round to Atitlan Lake of 2015, I had injured my knee training for this activity, so I couldn’t go that year. And finally in 2016 I made it. It was a wonderful experience, it was so tiring too. They moved us by boat from Panajachel to Tzununá, after that we began cycling, we passed by

San Marcos La Laguna, San Pablo La Lagua, San Juan La Laguna, San Pedro La Laguna. This was the hardest section because it had 8 km. uphill without flat parts, sot they had trucks carrying the cyclists that could not do it. So that was my fist carrying section where they took me about 3 km. Uphill. After that there was a mud section where was a lot of loosen ground downhill, so I didn´t know the technique to do it and I had fallen down twice in the first 500 mts. And there were 5 km of loosen ground so I decided to ride on the truck. Those were the 2 sections that I didn´t cycle after that I did everything. After San Pedro La Laguna we arrived to Santiago Atitlán, then San Lucas Toliman. They drove us from San Lucas Toliman to San Antonio Palao by boat, in San Antonio Palopó we started cycling again until Panajachel. In total it was 60 km but it took us from 7 am to 6 pm, because of the difficulty and the amount of participants. We were 700 cyclists. We arrived at midnight to Guatemala after we had cycled all day. So did I appreciate the views of the most wonderful lake of the world, maybe not, but if I had the opportunity in the future I would do it again.

Twitter Community I HATE THAT PEOPLE DON’T APPRECIATE THE POSITIVE CHANGES IN THE CITY. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERYBODY HELPS KEEPING THE CITY IIN GOOD CONDITION. I WISH PEOPLE WOULD UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF PROJECTING A GOOD IMAGE. I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT THIS YEAR IS OVER. I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND SET DIFFERENT GOALS.
