4pm – 5.30pm Three Parallel strands of panels Breakout one Perceptions, pathways and provision: The challenges in developing FE and HE provision Chair: Mark Webster, Head of School - Art & Design, Staffordshire University Panel: Sean Gregory, Director of Creative Learning for the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music & Drama; Judith Hills, Associate Dean – Recruitment and development, University of Sunderland; Russell Martin, Programme Manager, Artquest and Jamie Buttrick, Director, Consilium Research & Consultancy Ltd. This breakout will look at what has been learnt from the ArtWorks Pathfinders in relation to existing FE and HE provision. The discussants will consider perceptions, the differences between different pathways and the challenges we face in developing provision to meet the needs of artists. Breakout two The ‘Quality’ Question: Chair: Régis Cochefert, Head of Arts, Paul Hamlyn Foundation Panel: Fiona Dean, Artist/Researcher, fugitivespaces and ArtWorks Scotland; Maia Mackney, Collaborative Doctoral Award Student, Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning and Toby Lowe, Chief Executive, Helix Arts What is being learnt in the ArtWorks initiative about quality. What do we mean by ‘Quality’ in the context of artists working in participatory settings and how do we ensure it is there for participants? Is quality different for the various partners to the process – artists, participants and employers? Breakout three A musical approach to understanding the career progression of an artist with Pete Moser, Artistic Director, More Music This breakout will be a fun participatory workshop using words and songs to think about issues surrounding the career progression of artists and seeking to identify some things that might provoke positive change 6.30pm
