Our involvement began in 1962, ending with the RAAF helping with evacuation and assisting refugees up until 1975. Director at BRE Paul’s father, Peter, was a 21 y.o. gunner, part of the 106 Battery, 4th Field Regiment from 1967-1968. Peter and his battery controlled 6 Howitzer guns, which gave fire support to the infantry battalions, commonly firing on the Viet Cong from as far away as 6 miles (10km). Peter and his army mates by their gun “Echo” “At the time, my brother John and I were the first twins conscripted and this received significant national media coverage. This war became increasingly unpopular, particularly as many of the 521 Australian soldiers killed were conscripted. As difficult as it was, I was just doing what I thought was my duty to serve my country. I believed the threat of communism taking hold of all of South East Asia was real, and we needed to prevent this at all costs.” There was an unfair feeling of blame for the war heaped upon the returned soldiers, but thankfully in 1987 they were given their rightful welcome home parade in Sydney in front of several hundred thousand Peter, Mary & John Byrne onlookers.

Inner suburbs’ median house price tops $1.1m

he median price for a home in Melbourne’s inner suburbs has topped $1.1 million for the first time. ReIV chief executive officer, enzo Raimondo, said last week the $1,164,500 median price for the first three months of this year was up from $1,099,000 in the December quarter – a six per cent increase. “This is a year-on-year change of 11.7 per cent in the inner suburbs’

median – that is, those within 10km of the Melbourne CBD. “This reflects the strength of the Melbourne market in the low interest rate environment and the demand for homes close to transport and excellent infrastructure.” “Toorak’s house prices increased 15.8 per cent this quarter and with a median of $3.3m remains Melbourne’s most expensive suburb.” The buoyant inner city auction market was driving the price
