mu Creek was bathed in sunshine to the sounds of warbling magpies last Friday at the official opening of the Barramul Barrbaring pedestrian bridge beside the rapidly expanding Imagine Estate by Bendigo mayor, Peter Cox, and Villawood Properties’ executive director, Rory Costelloe. A traditional welcome and smoking ceremony by two of the Dja Dja Wurrung’s direct descendants, Ricky Nelson and Jason Keen, started proceedings before speeches from the mayor and Villawood executives. Councillors Rod Campbell and mark Weragoda were also in at-

tendance, along with developers and children from nearby St Francis of the Fields Primary School and Good Start Early Learning. Villawood’s regional general manager Julian Perez told the gathering that the bridge had been years in the planning and was strategically placed to link pedestrian and bicycle traffic to Strathfieldsaye’s schools and facilities. “At Villawood we see the bridge as a conduit back to the community of Strathfieldsaye ,” mr Perez said. “It’s a lot more than steel and concrete, it’s a real link to the community
