Design and fabrication of a sculptural enclosure for a linear fluorescent lamp. Project goals were to give the fluorescent lamp a warmer, more intimate feeling using only one sheet [4’ x 8’] of bristol board. Focus on digital fabrication methods [laser-cutter and CNC router]

Design of a small transit node located in Mariposa County, equipped with ADA accessible restrooms, seating for 20, five photovoltaic panels, and battery storage. Project duration was two weeks.

MARIPOSA COUNTY TRANSIT NODE

Prevailing winds from the north are blocked by glass panels along the street. The restroom is positioned to block storm winds from the east. The bench is made up of wood sections that gradually change form to accomodate several different seating positions. The roof folds at a 30째 angle to accomodate PV panels.

A contemporary recycling center in Rome’s Trastevere neighborhood. The goal was to reconnect the city to the river and to redefine the junkyard in an urban setting. The site is located on the edge of the Tiber river.

ROME / URBAN REUSE CENTER

This site is home to a 17th century ship maintenance and storage facility known as the Arsenale. The Arsenale is an icon that represents the transition between industry and the river. My proposal was to use the Arsenale as the gateway to the facility, which would flow out of the Arsenale.

This modular storage system, integrated with the building structure, can change to accomodate the appropriate amount of goods.

A D A P T A B L E M U L T I - F A M I LY H O M E An experimental home designed for two families, focusing on reconfigurability. A common wall between the two main floors is made up of moving panels. This can allow the families to open up their dining rooms to eachother for a party, or their kitchens for twice the cooking capacity, or their living rooms for their children to play together.

MIXED USE URBAN INFILL

29

A mixed use project in downtown San Luis Obispo, CA. Retail spaces are located on the ground floor, and have a large amount of storefront space. The residences above are clad with a system of horizonal and vertical louvers that diffuse light and make the upper floors more private.

The interior of the building is a freeform subtraction that contrasts with the rectangular form of the exterior. This space provides well lit open spaces for residents and gives almost every residence the opportunity for southern exposure. Translucent wall panels allow light to pass into the space on the front of each unit.

31

The louvers are pushed up above the storefronts for more exposure, and pulled down to expose the outdoor space on the top floor. Where the density of louvers is highest, they protrude in plan to articulate the “pinch.

STUDY MODELS / LASER-CUT MODEL [left] Series of study models to derive the form of the subtracted atrium. Ultimately the form was made up of lofted curves that were derived from site diagrams. [right] Physical replication of digital model using laser-cut components. [bristol board, chipboard, illustration board, basswood, acrylic]
