From history to present, libraries acquired an outdated image and impression of being served for a specific group of people(monks, Students, researchers, teachers). In the present scenario of the development of public libraries are shrunken to only to preserve the historical monument.

In present time, library development is established to only fulfill as the requirement of construction and to support low literacy rate. Despite identifying the importance of libraries in community.

Multiple intelligence

M

Library is as old as the education in India, From gurukuls to modern universities the learning methodology had changed revolutionary. So what could be the effective ways of leaning. In the research of Howard Gardner he described how a children can learn through different intelligences. The painting of Shri Hirvijaysuriji’s journy shows many type of formal, informal learning methodologies and also

learning through different intelligence. As researcher Harward gardner mentioned earlier. If we elaborate a painting briefly artist painted every part with the activities during journey where Nature, animals, humans took place. where journey begins with guru’s travel from different villages spreading knowledge to everyone despite of race, age, gender, religion, language, economic, disability, employment status and educational attainment.

artwork also show the indirect method of developing skills and gaining knowledge weather it’s gaining knowledge from meeting new people, sharing cooking space with others, enjoying music and dancing in groups, logical skills in through mathematics, riding horses and more in human behavior with other Living bing.

Palanpur

The original dwellers of the area that Palanpur is situated in are said to have been the Nagas. Historians believe they had an evolved civilization that engaged in trade, and that they were expert seafarers. The geology of the region shows that at the time the sea was closer inland, and the Nagas even had a port on the banks of the lost river of Saraswati. Archaeological evidence reveals that the Nagas had a settled society with a

rich variety of cultural artifacts. Palanpur was ruled and governed by nawab before Independence. After India became republic decision were made under the guidance of Nawab, now nawab and his family lives in mumbai. There were many NGOs which are constantly working for development of palanpur in educational, social, cultural and economy.

During Post independence time country was developing under the newly made legislative body which was fresh for everything. Library Is more responsible for development of cultural aspect of the community thats why it falls under The Ministry of Culture and Sports, now ministry of culture

and ministry of sport is separated which is the concern of mine as an author this thesis. As a development of human being participation of both formal and informal is very important because of this separation Libraries of modern India are became limited only to preserve the historic structure and construction requirement. 07

Palanpur was once a fortified city,

5 km in girth with bastioned gates and towers, mounted with cannon mainly for defense against the incursions of marauding tribes. Today there is hardly any trace of the fort or its gate or the ditches described by Walter Hamilton in 1813. In a mere 250 years, the vestiges of the fortified city are barely visible. However, the old houses, narrow lanes, carved pillars, antique Jain derasars still remain, reminding us of the town’s heritage.

Meera gate is the only gate survived out of 7 gates which is also faded in

rapid urbanization and stands as whole as remembrance of historic values of town and people who lived their. Although fast urban growth faded it’s image and importance in new neighborhood. . These gates were used as a entry points of the city where welcome music, dance and farewell celebration, where involvement of large number of crowd can be seen in photographs. Marches with horses, motor vehicle, music and dance performances.

Old Houses in gamtal are as old as palanpur. Where it shows the indirect user participation with the street Kirti Stambh is constructed by

nawab in 1918 for remembrance of nawab dynasty where many wells were created to fulfill the water requirement. These wells were become the point to meet people on particular time as specially for women where they can enjoy little talks which played very important to exchange knowledge. Which is the example of linguistic intelligence. 08

Paniharis (Women who fetch water) Development of wells satisfied water requirement of the city and also became a meeting points for women to share knowledge and information in man dominated culture.

Rajgadhi

is the oldest known educational institute in the gamtal where it’s structure is still use as school surrounded by modern materials and ruins of past. In picture taken in early 19s show kids walking through narrow street under sun light where half of streets is shaded which shows safe, cool and walkable paths for child under the heavy sun.

Nani bazaar

is the oldest market in region where old shops are still present. People from surrounding villages commute for the old taste of the city which includes Attar which is still one of the prime reason among all. Picture shows the mix used commercial streets in the harmony of all living beings.

Khoda limda

where vegetable market was held, early 1900. Market is only accessible by narrow and shaded streets which opens in open pocket of gamtal which still exists as most safe and walkable market space in city. Streets behaves as an active network of meeting others where mix used activities played very important role in shaping neighborhood. Where everyone their own identity by what they doing as a professional work and by their moral and ethics. Although in modern time this values changed by wealth, political position, Education qualifications, which creates imbalance in the community.

Design development Site of New palanpur city library is a nearly triangular site where the western edge of site was straight on the other hand rest of two are more organic because of the initial developed roads from gamtal in past. To develop a site level understanding the prime focus are roads due to 3 major hospitals are

on the periphery of the site. Defining the road width and the public transport junctions can reduce traffic issues easily. By the analysis of the old and new neighborhood of the surroundings major problem identified is a lake of public spaces where playgrounds were missing, suitable market space were missing.

Determining size of each land parcel and maintaining curvature of the proposed roads to make minimum driving difficulties. Maintaining open vs build ratio to make a site as a spacial center of the site and to allow public activities to the periphery and forcing indirectly to the interaction process through out the site and library by

providing bridges, central space, museum, central library. Proposed new city central district level library in palanpur is act as a active network of the neighborhood and support learning in different ways.

21
