Jacket Sprayer

BRIEF Design a compact and easy to wear pesticide sprayer with simple spraying system. 

Bhavika Makwana

Observations After studying 15 knapsack sprayer users these were the observations: • Overall weight of the knapsack sprayer is a problem. • It leads to lower back aches. • User complained about the lever pulling mechanism. • Users wanted the vendors/ suppliers to provide the safety equipment and measuring equipment along with the sprayer. • The existing straps are inconvenient. • Knapsack sprayer is mostly used by economically weak farmers/ users and by those who have small farms. • Knapsack sprayers are convenient to use in farms which have rows of crops and person needs to walk to spray medicine there. • Poor battery life was most common problem with battery operated sprayers. • Nozzles were partially blocked after use.

Concept The basic idea behind this concept was eliminating the cliched box like structure of a pesticide sprayer and make a new ergonomic and easy to use pesticide sprayer.

About the sprayer: • The existing sprayer was comfortable for certain body types which would affect the performance of the user so I have designed it in a jacket form which can be comfortable for any body type. • Males and females can use this comfortably. • In this jacket sprayer, the liquid is distributed uniformly around the upper body which does not cause strain in the back. • A positive point about the sprayer is that is is collapsible - can be easily folded and stored. • It uses a simple spraying mechanism - reciprocating brass hand pump. • Reusable • Affordable • Capacity - 10-12 litres(based on user’s capacity to carry) • Material - 0.3mm PVC sheet • Color - Green

Aquagro

BRIEF

Design an indoor planting system for a hotelier to grow fresh vegetables using aquaponic technique in her small restaurant. 14

Bhavika Makwana

The idea of urban agriculture which means growing crops and food in the cities, houses, etc. is developing and we see in the near future this would really be helpful. Currently, the food/ crops are grown by the farmers, processed and supplied and transported. So instead of this people can grow their own food, right in their homes. Urban farming challenges

Few advantages of in-home agriculture: • You get your own fresh vegetables right at your home. • Completely organic vegetable and fruits good for your health. • Less amount of water required • No soil needed- as soil these days might contain toxic elements like lead, arsenic ,etc.

Fishes are fed food and produce ammonia rich waste

• Grow better crops, nurture crops as well as fish(in case of aquaponics)

Bacteria in the water breaks down ammonia into nitrates

Clean water for the fishes

Plants absorb nitrates as nutrients for growth and water is filtered by plants

15

Evolution of farming

What is Aquaponics?

Spice Up

BRIEF

To design packaging for a brand with three variants and a multipack for the same. 18

BRANDING

Brand: SNAPIN Category: Herbs & Spices SNAPIN is a young brand in the herbs and spices section. SNAPIN always comes up with new varients. The brand has large variety of Herbs, Spices and Seasonings.

Brand Name: Brands names are usually catchy and give a feel of what the product is or does. My brand is into making range of authentic Italian herbs and spices. Spice Up Layout: Problems: 1.The existing packaging is too flat and plain. It has a single background color and has a boxy and rigid font. 2.The visual image of the content isn’t appealing. 3.It has a complete cling wrapped label. One cannot see the content inside the bottle as it doesn’t have a window.

19

The idea behind the graphics for the layout was using small elements realted to Italian cooking and restaurants. Usually there is a blackboard placed outside restaurants where that days’ special menu is written. So that was my first thought of using the blackboard as my background. Next element to add was related to cooking. Normally spoons are used to sprinkle spices and herbs when the quantity is more. So spoon was my next element. I have used the spoon as a window where we can see the contents inside the bottle. This gives a feel of the spoon holding the spices or herbs in real.

Urban planters is a modular system of growing plants indoor. It consists of an elegant structure of metal. In each structure planter porcelain pots with the look of marble and patterned pocelain are placed with plants, reproducing in the home the environment of a small vertical garden or using them as decoration or room dividers. The planter pots can be of concrete or porcelain. The look and feel of marble can be given by glazing or marbling techique.

Root Coffee Table

BRIEF

To design a coffee table 24



Bhavika Makwana

Root Coffee Table Made of metal base and marble table top goes pretty well with the urban interiors.

Roots of the trees have been the inspiration for the abstract root like pattern for the base of the Root Coffee Table.

Makes a great home decor piece. ....................................

The metal frame give elegance to the design. The combination of metal and marble looks simple and clean. The color and finish for the base can be gold, copper, silver, hammered copper/brass.

Use it as a coffee table, center table, or side table, it adds to the overall look of the space.

Looks pretty in gold as well as copper. .............................
