The National Air and Space Museum is undergoing a large phased building renovation which includes exterior and interior upgrades. CRTKL was brought in to help plan renovate and design a variety of retail space within the museum. Given the multitude of locations and variation of scale, our team was presented the opurtunity to create a new language thoughout the museum stores and tap into the incograpphy and excitment found in the exhibits. This project is currently underconstruction and our office has been asked to rejoin the CA efforts.

Nike + Foot Locker DD, CD, CA 4,150 sq.ft. Retail
This existing House of Hoops store required constant colabortation with the Nike design team. In working with Nike, design was never complete and this project as a result became a design build process. The existing metal clad facade was entirely remove and replaced with large scale concrete panels. The glazing opening was extended on the right hand side to incorporate the wood clad branding display box. On the interior we assited in developing the millwork design, one of which was meant to display shoes from distinct decades as if preserved in a museum.

This Brooklyn House of hoops was a renovation of an existing location. The project incorporated highly detailed and extensive millwork. We worked closely with the Nike design team to coordinate the depth, weight, and install. The LED screen display that runs across the space required detailed coordination with both our structural and MEP teams to align with the desired finished product. This store uniquely fits into the fabric of the neighborhood with graphics by local artists and a debossed BKLYN symbol in the storefront window display.

This flagship store opened in down town Vancouver along the main commercial corridor. The base building was at its earliest stages of demolition and construction at the start of our design development phase. We were able to coordinate with the landlord’s architect to incorporate a custom stair design and associated fixtures along with its necessary structural supports. This new location is one of the first completed stores that is designed to increase community engagement. The mezzanine platform will double as a stage for musicians and DJ’s to host events within the store.
