Saturday 21st September 11am – 3pm Meet BHOGG – a group set up to encourage and support organic gardeners in the local community. Winner of “Best Community Allotment” in the local City in Bloom competition in 2010. Talk to the experts and take a tour in this organic sanctuary. Community picnic in the vegetable garden behind the tennis courts at the north end of the park. Join in a celebration of the wonderful homegrown food available in the community. 11 Harvest Demonstration Garden – Preston Park, Brighton BN1 6HN Wednesday 18th September 10am – 1pm Situated just behind the Rotunda Cafe this flourishing garden is packed with colour, textures, scent and taste. It’s a great resource to discover the possibilities of growing your own vegetables and fruits and make your space a welcoming place for both people and wildlife. Brighton Permaculture Trust – Stanmer Park, BN1 9PZ Sunday 22nd September 11am – 5pm A seasonal celebration in and around the orchards at Stanmer Park. More apple activities than you can possibly imagine. If you would like to volunteer for Apple Day please contact Brighton Permaculture Trust directly www.brightonpermaculture.org.uk. Enjoy the beautiful wildlife pond and forest garden. On Thursday take part in garlic and onion planting and a communal lunch from the clay oven. Tuesday 17th & Friday 20th September 10am – 2.30pm Community horticulture project growing delicious, nutritious and affordable organic food. All ages and abilities are welcome to get out of town and spend some time on site in a peaceful location within easy traveling distance from the heart of Brighton. Get involved in sowing, planting, digging, netting, harvesting, composting and much more besides. All work is supervised. Bring enthusiasm, sensible clothes and some lunch and enjoy learning to grow at your own pace.
22 North Laine Community Allotment – On the path just before Stanmer Organics, Stanmer Park, BN1 9SE Saturday 21st September 11am – 5pm Community plot for residents of the North Laine in the beautiful setting of Stanmer Park. Small friendly plot with lots of growing activities to get stuck into including building a fruit cage and making paths.
23 The Physic Garden – Stanmer Organics. Situated just before the Earthship. Friday 20th September 10am – 4pm Wonderful medicinal herb garden growing herbs, fruit, vegetables and flowers that promote good health. Discover this hands on garden; join other volunteers in the countryside, have a bit of quiet time and learn about natural plant medicines. You can also catch the Physic Garden at Apple Day on 22nd September.
24 Stanmer Community Garden Group – Just left of Plumpton College / Stanmer Offices, Stanmer Park, Falmer BN1 9SE Friday 20th September 11am – 3pm Stanmer Community Garden Group will be Big Digging in the yard of the community gardens, by the tool shed, selling potted shrubs, herbs and seedlings, with jam, cakes, biscuits, tea and coffee to enjoy.
