PERFORMING ARTS Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry play to packed houses around the Bay area. Situated on the banks of the Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa, the 290,000 square foot Straz Center boasts three theaters; presenting Broadway shows, dance productions, popular singers, and comedians. Nearby, the Amalie Arena is a spectacular venue for concerts by popular artists and musicians. MUSEUMS Museum lovers will delight in the array of museums found throughout the Bay area. Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), the largest science museum in the Southeast. The Tampa Museum of Art offers a look at Greek and Roman antiquities, as well as changing exhibitions from private collections and museums around the world. Downtown Tampa also hosts the annual Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, one of the largest art shows in the Southeast and ranked among the top fine arts festivals in the country. Displaying the largest permanent collection of Salvador Dali in the country is the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts holds large collections of European and American masters and a Steuben glass collection. Boating enthusiasts can sail or motor along the area’s lakes and bays as well as the Gulf. Boat owners with a valid out-of-state registration can use pleasure craft for up to 90 days in Florida. Tampa Bay’s golf scene is a hot one with over 100 golf courses to choose from. The toprated Copperhead course hosts the world’s finest players when the PGA TOUR arrives at Innisbrook for the Valspar Championship. Whether you like to walk, jog, bike or skate, you’ll enjoy the scenic trek along the Pinellas and Suncoast Trails. Tampa’s Bayshore Boulevard stretches along the water for six miles giving fitness enthusiasts a panoramic view of the downtown skyline, the open bay and stately homes. The Gulf beaches, recognized as some of the best in the world, provide a welcome venue for outdoor activities with 28 miles of white sand and sparkling water.

PROFESSIONAL SPORTS Catch NFL action at Raymond James Stadium, home to the Super Bowl XXXVII Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The stadium is also the host field to the University of South Florida Bulls and the annual Outback Bowl. Arena football’s Tampa Bay Storm can be found at the Amalie Arena along with Major League Hockey’s 2004 Stanley Cup winner Tampa Bay Lightning. Across the bay to Tropicana Field, the Tampa Bay Rays provide plenty of Major League Baseball activity. Additionally, several MLB teams call Tampa Bay home for spring training including the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves and in nearby Polk County you’ll find the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. In 2012, the Rowdies won the NASL Soccer Bowl Championship after a thrilling shootout victory in front of a sold out crowd at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg.

AT T R AC T I O N S Residents of the Bay area have many popular attractions right in their own back yards. Busch Gardens offers an overview of the Serengeti Plain, featuring more than 2,700 animals, along with thrill rides and cultural exhibits. Adjacent to Busch Gardens is Adventure Island, a 35-acre water park with a variety of water slides, body flumes, and wave pools. The Florida Aquarium, ranked as one of the top three in the US, is located adjacent to the cruise ship terminal in downtown Tampa. The aquarium features 20,000 aquatic plants and animals and one of the world’s largest coral reef displays.
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo includes a Florida wildlife exhibit, a manatee research center, an education facility and, of course, a variety of mammals, birds, and reptiles. Ybor City is one of the more unusual shopping facilities is Ybor Square in Ybor City. Formerly a cigar factory dating to before the turn of the century, Ybor Square now houses a quaint collection of shops, restaurants, and exciting night spots. John’s Pass Village, in Madeira Beach, is a collection of galleries, shops and restaurants in a fishing village edged by a boardwalk featuring craft shows and the annual Seafood Festival. View the heavens and discover the mysteries of the universe at the Planetarium and Observatory in St. Petersburg.
Voted Florida’s best attraction by USA Today and home to Winter the dolphin without a tail, The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a multi-purpose aquarium museum which has educational programs, conducts research, houses exhibits and provides animal rescue and rehabilitation. Tarpon Springs, on the northern edge of Pinellas County, was founded as a Greek sponging village around the turn of the century and still retains the look and feel of a village on the Aegean. Demonstration sponge dives are available to enjoy.

BEACHES Here in the Bay area you will find some of the world’s top rated beaches with sugary white sand, sparkling clear water, and endless sunsets. Many of our beaches have been voted as some of the best in the U.S. Some of our favorite island spots include:
•F ort De Soto Park voted as the “Best Family Beach” and also named in the Top 25 U.S. Beaches by TripAdvisor. Camping on the beach is common here, as there are over 1,000 acres of preserved land that covers five interconnected islands.
•C learwater Beach, ranked #1 beach in 2016 by TripAdvisor and voted as the “Best Beach Town in Florida” in 2013, has numerous hotels, condos, beach houses, and more to accommodate its visitors. Many beach front restaurants are located on Clearwater Beach and don’t forget to visit Pier 60 where you can gather for events, watch the sunset, go fishing, and more.
•S iesta Key, ranked #1 beach in 2017 by Dr. Beach, boasts the finest and whitest sand in the world and the most beautiful blue-colored, crystal clear water. The beach is a stretch that is part of a county park with copius facilities and parking.
•C aladesi Island State Park, which was named America’s #1 Beach in 2008 by Dr. Beach. This beautiful stretch of beach is only accessible by boat or ferry from Honeymoon Island giving you a private island feel.
•F red Howard Park, located in the heart of Tarpon Springs with multiple picnic areas and playgrounds along the nature preserve followed by the causeway that takes you out to the white sand beach. •H oneymoon Island State Park, four miles of beach, nature trails, bird observations, and more. Boasting the 8th largest school system in the nation, Hillsborough County has emerged as an important educational center in Florida. Total current enrollment exceeds 206,841. The Hillsborough County School System is comprised of 266 Schools (K-12) and 82 centers for adults with programs at schools and other sites in the community.
The Pinellas County School District is the 7th largest in Florida and the 26th largest in the country. Comprised of 140 elementary, middle, high and specialty public schools, it serves more than 104,000 students. Nearly 18,069 adults are enrolled in postsecondary, career, technical and adult education programs in Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

T R A N S P O R TAT I O N Tampa International Airport (TPA), located five miles from downtown Tampa and 20 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg, is hailed as the world’s most modern and efficient. Served by all major airlines, Tampa International Airport has been consistently voted the nation’s best airport and is considered to be one of the finest in the world. The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport serves the community with chartered flights for national and international travel with a variety of commercial airlines. General aviation and corporate aircraft are well served by Hanger One, located adjacent to TPA, and by Albert Whited in St. Petersburg, which also offers sightseeing flights, flight instruction and chartering. Those interested in a more luxurious mode of transportation will appreciate the variety of cruise lines which sail from the Port of Tampa.
