Annual Report 2012-2013
The MJCC is dedicated to the enrichment of Jewish life by providing for the social, cultural, educational, and recreational needs of the Jewish community, and serving as the common meeting place for the entire Jewish community.
Dear Friends of the MJCC, 99 years and stronger than ever! We are proud to continue our long tradition of providing for the social, cultural, educational and recreational needs of Portland’s Jewish community. Of course, we welcome all individuals who choose to cross our threshold. And a lot of people do pass through these doors. We can now boast of having more than 4,000 members who visit us on a regular basis. But we also have many guests who come for events, try out the fitness center or eat at the Cafe at the J. We estimate that more than 10,000 different people visit MJCC every year. People come to MJCC for many reasons. Some visit as part of their regular workout routine; some take advantage of one of the few therapy pools in the area; maybe they meet friends weekly for a game of mah jongg; maybe they participate in the unique Inpower exercise class for those currently undergoing cancer treatment or they might be attending an event in our ballroom. Whatever the reason, we strive to assure that they feel welcome and part of our community. Over this next year, we will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary – a truly momentous occasion. As we celebrate our history and plan for the next century of service to the Jewish community and the entire Portland community, come take full advantage of all the opportunities available. Check out our full schedule of activities. Check out our calendar on the website. Try something you haven’t tried before or maybe you just share the center with a friend who has not yet been welcomed into our community. This Annual Report is an opportunity to thank all of those who have helped to build this community. You will find a list of generous supporters who made contributions over the past year. We are especially thankful of those who have contributed to our Roots & Rafters campaign. We would be remiss if we did not also thank all of those who came before. Everyone who has contributed to this community over the past 99 years deserves our gratitude. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in the past and who will be with us as we move into our next century. B’shalom,
Barry Benson President, Board of Directors
