L B R Coastal landscape character Gujarat is a state on the western coast of India with a coastline of 1600 km. Coastal side has a distinct sense of place- genius loci, associated with seaside resorts and an experienced by visitors to these coastal destinations. It is made up of combination of various visual factors such as open vistas of coastal environment, distinctive vegetation and marine ecology, various leisure activities such as beach play, consuming seaside cuisine and promenading.

Current scenario COVID-19

pandemic

has

a

significant

impact on tourism industry due to travel restrictions. The long term impacts includes the international tourism and hence with safety measures there are higher chances for the people to visit this leisure landscape retreat resort. The site is barren and flat in nature having very less vegetation cover and is surrounded three sides by waterbodies as Sea, lake and ponds- to hold the water. The coastal edge of the site have bund hence it restricts the oceanic view from inward land. LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT OF BEACHSIDE RESORT AT DANDI, GUJARAT Course - Masters in Landscape architecture Location - Dandi, Gujarat Task grade - 7 Aim - To prepare a comprehensive landscape development of seaside resort at Dandi to provide natural character of coastal landscape that will enhance the experience of local community and tourists.

“ If we design a hotel for everyone, it will appeal to no one

Exposure of the beach during the low tide level attracts people for various beach activities.

The beach acts as a dynamic space and bund is facing the vulnerability to soil erosion due to tidal inundation.

Boardwalk provides the learning experience through mangroves and borrowed view of ocean.

Restoration of rich mangrove ecosystem and the habitats associated with it. Also reduces the tidal impact and soil erosion.

Zoning of the activities has been done according to the rules of CRZ in which other activities are placed sensitively.

Primary axis of the movement provides the coastal experience as one moves and provides the direct connection to the beach

Simple circulation for the ease of movement. Vegetation provides the enclosure and privacy through various entry points.

Villa units are placed according to the different morphology of the units and viewing potentials.

U O S Introduction Delhi’s waterscape heritage is unique as it has a continual natural water system but because of non-sustainable way of looking at the natural resources it is in degraded state. There is a huge potential at rejuvenating the waterways and integrating them with the urban fabric as potential urban open space system. The study has been undertaken considering these issues that may help revitalize the basins of Delhi by knitting them back into urban grid as potential water resources. Objectives To carry out an assessment of a selected stretch of the Najafgarh drain and its environs keeping in view the issues pertinent for an environmentally sensitive landscape development proposal. 1. Continuous trail system connecting the edges of Najafgarh 2. Environmentally sensitive public open spaces. STUDY OF URBAN OPEN SPACE SYSTEM - A CASE OF NAJAFGARH DRAIN Course - Masters in Landscape architecture Location - Delhi Task grade - 7 Aim To establish a network of green open space system within the urban fabric along the Najafgarh Drain.

“ There it trnsform from river to drain and green to concrete Jungle ” Site potential 1. Natural feature - Suplementary drain having natural embankment + Najafgarh waterway which provides opportunity for active public space 2. Historical importance - Shah Alam Tomb + Old Wazirabad bridge are close proximity to site 3. Temple and religious place Rameshwar Mahadev temple + Nau Gaja Peer Dargah + Sur Yamuna Ghat 4. Weekend market - No proper space for them and hence traffic congestion as they forms their place on road itself

Proposed Detail area plan

Space of confluence and edges are connected by stepping stones with multiple use of space

Supplementary drain has the natural edge which is treated with coir logs and stepping stones to improve the quality of water.

L O N Programme ‘Study of neglected space’ Find the neglected space of about one acre and analyze the site and its surrounding to find out the issues that makes the site neglected space under three categories 1. Environmental issues 2. Functional issues 3. Visual issues

Memorial Nashik is one of the fastest developing city in India. Due to urbanization and industrial growth in the city, it declines in its well known natural environment and resources. Also the city has wide range of cultural, historical and spiritual importance. To spread knowledge about city legends and to maintain relationship with nature a blend of both has been chosen for design - A memorial.

LANDSCAPE OF NEGLECT Course - Landscape architecture Location - Nashik, Maharashtra Task grade - AA Objective - To learn about and be able to explain how small neglected spaces with landscape intervention makes a difference in the city and its natural resources.

Aim 1. To create a place with charged meaning and emotion. City has wide range of cultural, historical and spiritual importance Activities 1. Open hall of fame (information) 2. Space for drinking water 3. Pontoon (Floating memorial)

Concept Area of the site known as ‘Chinchban’ Chinch - Tamarind Ban - Cluster of trees The concept is then used to design the furnitures and floating memorial.

Objectives 1. Minimum number of objects or

environmental flowing space 3. To connect human beings to nature brain storming is done to understand what is good as a design solution. 4. Space shall not be concretized - It should become the connect between nature and surrounding built-form.

Children activity zone 1. The activity zone has been provided for the children of the surrounding vicinity LIG housing group which will provide opportunities to them. 2. The zone includes OAT for the debate, workshops and streaming of seminars for their better development. 3. Zone becomes more lively by the natural shade and the use of space for different competitions.

Gabion wall 1. The main compound wall has been demolished and a gabion wall is raised at a LVL +1.75m so that it will reduce the posibility of submergence of part of the site under water during high flood situation. 2. Gabion wall also reduces the force of water and in this way trees of the site hit with less water force sustaining in flood. 3. Gabion wall also inculcated with LED lights around its periphery for aesthetics.

Drinking water space 1. It has been provided inside the site away from joggers trck so that when people will come to drink water they will see the space of knowledge with landscape. 2. The structure has been built with the materials that are dumped on site itself. Stones - Retaining wall Aluminium sheet - Covering

I C C Concept - Definite random Brownian motion is the random motion of the particles. In medium, particles collide and forms a random but interesting path which provides free flowing space for the movement of crowd through corridor path. It is a simplest of the continuous time stochastic processes.

Main objectives 1. Tackle the harsh climate of the city and implement creative use of the light in the spaces. 2. High

efficacy

performances

of

an

in

acoustical conference,

meeting and auditorium. 3. Use naturally available material to form a iconic structure for the city. 4. Circulation spaces to be designed considering maximum occupancy in the center at a time.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER Course - Design studio VII Location - Ahmedabad Task grade - AA Problem - To design a convention center in city of ahmedabad with its rich cultural and architectural heritage. A center for National and Inter-national delegates housing a multitude activities as conference, meeting, banquet etc.

“ Iconic building is not only about expression but also about values and traditions.

Conceptualising the method Not all activities have gone under this transformation, but the spine have given flexibility to have different forms for different activities. Connecting these as a single built mass without hampering the iconism is a great task. Location - Ahmedabad Area - 7 acre

Design Considerations In hot-dry climate, smaller P/A ratio would result in less area exposed to radiation and lesser conduction heat gain. Hence, larger activities are placed according to lesser P/A ratio and different shading device techniques has been used for climate responsive architecture. Service core acts as a thermal barrier - Heat reduction

1. Spines Activites having large area includes Auditorium, banquet hall, conference hall etc.

Shading of window and wall surfaces by Jaali screen

Shading of building surface by vegetation - Symbolism of built form with nature

Lightshelves introduced to increase daylight penetration inside.

-

Generation

lines

for

placement of activities and their orientation. 2. Free flowing path as a main corridor 3. It allows to generate each activity in different way to provide randomness in nature.

Materials - Locally available material

In greatter P/A ratio planforms, it is inculcated with water bodies and vegetation which can modify the microclimate. These modification spaces can also be used as interaction and recreational spaces.

Perforated brick masonary 1. High strength hollow bricks 2. 50-60% perforations 3. Sound and heat insulation Pervious paving Driveways and pathways Varied colours of paving used for different purposes. Vehicular movement - Grey Pathway - Briick red Wood Jaali and ornamentation purpose

Effective shading device design

East and west orientation Vertical device or louvres (possibly movable). East or west facade are difficult ot shade with fixed shades as the sun is very low. Rollable blinds are more effective than fixed shades as they preserve views.

South orientation Fixed horizontal device or window reessing

which shows the transition. And here exploring materials from vernacular to contemporary and giving random flow to facade truly magnifies the concept. The blend between these style are non distinguishable and hence possesses a unique quality for designing the chain of restaurant as proposed.

Proposal 1. The restaurant will focus on families and students as clientele. The invite offers from private builders and developers to offer space approx. 400 sq.m with open space and parking. 2. Tentative requirement is as under seating of 50 persons in different space module, billing counter, kitchen, exclusive party area for 20-25 people, appropriate theme to design.

INTERIOR DESIGN OF RESTAURANT Course - Interior Design studio Location - Nagpur Task grade - AB Problem - A private national group and chain of restaurant is willing to open an outlet in Nagpur at Medical square area. Requirements - Needs to accomodate with fast food and multicuisine AC restaurant.

Flora rubber flooring 1. Press moulded and calendered rubber tiles 2. vulcanised rubber 3. Cigarette burn resistant 4. Fire retardant 5. Heavy moving load due to elasticity 6. Good resistant to chemicals 7. Self healing capacity hence scratch resistant 8. Acoustic flooring Mirrors 1. Balck and gold polished tiles mirror 2. One way silver mirror 3. One way glass HDF and MDF mouldings 1. For the facade treatment as it provides pandomness to it 2. To demarcate the space in between Outdoor waterwall is created to provide soothing sound, create mood of refreshment and relaxation and also positive energy.

Wall cladding in meeting room and party hall to fabricate an ambience for particular activity

Casette air conditioning system placed in the plenum area of the restaurant for the clients comfort

Four seater arrangement of single booth with timber table top for modern progression. Reflection by polished glass surface multiplies the volume of the space.

Concept The Sanskriti School, Lucknow is envisioned to be one of the most prestigious school of the country. It will house classes from nursery to 12th and provide state of the art infrastructure for sports, extra curricular activities and overall development of children. The site occupies a prime location as an L-shaped corner plot adjoining the 55m wide green connector which runs through the heart of the CG city. Green connector acts as a buffer space between 45m wide road and the abutting plots. The program is divided into academic and activity components. The activity blocks are placed in between the academic blocks to create a buffer and simultaneously provide a variation in architectural form. The academic blocks are clad with exposed brick masonary while activity blocks in contrast as exposed concrete.

“ My house is my refuge, an emotional piece of

architecture, not a cold piece of convenience.

Concept The profile building is modulated with varying heights which opens up interesting vistas allowing extended views and letting in abundant light and air. The stepped profile forms private gardens recalling the concept of Toit-Jardincorbusier’s roof garden, which recaptures the lost ground at a higher level. The playfulness of undulating skyline is extended into the brick clad facade, which is punctuated with balconies that are bith hollowed out as well as projected from the surface - lending a dynamic mass-void expression to the housing complex. The module of brick conceptually strengthens the lego like modular nature of the facade and silhouette. Oranje castle creates bunglows in the air reintroducing lost ground and sky into peoples lives.
