ABOUT ME

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

I’m Sebastià Mercadal Moll and I was born on the 2nd, August of 1993. I’m from Menorca, which had a big influence on my personality.

Since 2011 UPC. Escola tècnica superior d’arquitectura. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.

My whole life has been remarkably related to the design, although I also found time for other hobbies like music or sailing.

2009 - 2011 I.E.S Josep Maria Quadrado. A level studies.

In 2011 I moved to Barcelona to study architecture at ETSAB. After overcoming the initial courses, I began to understand the world of architecture which helped me to started enjoying it.

I ‘d like to have a wide formation, that is why I’ve always tried to combine academic studies with self-learning photography and videos.

Following my passion for design, I tried to give it some use by applying it to graph design. < There is a compilation of my favourites logos and images.

Most of them where created for fun purposes while others were made in the context of projects were I had participate, like a music band (Reflexos) or a party group organitzation (ducceréé.ciutadella).

Besides designing with computer, I also make drawings by hand. In this case, I represent a bonsai tree with charcoal technique. This was an exercise of live representation that I made in a bonsai exhibition. >

Merchandising for party organizers group that I have with my friends. Posters correspond to parties we celebrated. I’ve tried to give them a youthful and casual look far away of provocative look that nightclubs’ posters use to have.

Summer festival

The creation of the band logo was a constant theme in my early times. I made a few different options: a lot of them were inspired by the logos of rock bands I admired. The bottom logo was my first professional design. Obviously it was only a hobby but now, looking through time, I contemplate my work and I’m proud of it.

Eventually, I wanted to move on from logo design and I have started designing both posters and flyers for the live concerts we played.

< It’s a joke gift for a friend who was studying law. It is a very simple composition that explains the steps to get sit in a chair. It’s explained from a sarcastic point of view. The gift made its function perfectly, everybody who saw it started to laugh and we enjoyed a very funny time.

El primer pas es situar-se davant la cadira, donan’t-li l’esquena, de manera que el nostre cul quedi just al davant del seient.

Seguidament, s’han de recolzar les mans en els bracos de la cadira per tal de no perdre l’equilibri quan tirem el cos enrera.

El primer paso es situarse enfrente de la sil a, de espaldas a ella, de manera que nustro culo quede justo delante del asiento.

A continuacion, se tienen que apoyar las manos en los brazos de la sil a para no perder el equilibrio quando tiremos nuestro cuerpo atras.

Finalment, el pas mes dificil, s’ha de deixar caure el pes del nostre cos enrera pero sempre en vertical. Aixi el nostre cul arribara a tocar el seient i ja estarem asseguts! architecture landscape Landscaping project that tries to connect two different levels through a park created by concrete cubes with trees inside. The main reason for the intervention is to create a tour that join these levels but at the same time create secondary spaces where you can relax and sit. Prof.: Pilar Cos, 1st course

house from a room Theoretical project about creating a house that has as a size the double area of our home rooms. I was lucky and my room had 4 meters high. I planed two floors: downstairs I situated the kitchen, the living-room, a study zone and the bath, and upstairs I located the main room. Prof.: Pilar Cos, 1st course

museum Museum erect in a very small plot. The project try to mark a tour and lead the visitors along all the building. The rooms must have a differential design according to the piece of art they contain. Finally, the roof is a lookout where people who visit the exhibition can just contemplate the city from a high point. Prof.: Pilar Cos, 1st course

Project of a restaurant, bar and viewpoint using a system of rigid platform on stilts. Conception of space and exterior views are taken into account for this project. The project has to save a height of 7m and build an attic-bar on the roof. Prof.: Antonio Armesto, 2nd course

I planned three floors: on the ground floor I have situated a restaurant with its kitchen and its exterior terrace. On the first floor, I have located a pub and a fun zone. In the roof I has to build a summer bar which has to be smaller than the bottom one but with a bigger terrace.

Puda’s health resort PRODUCIDO POR UN PRODUCTO DEL ESTUDIANTE DE AUTODESK

This project is situated in Banyoles. It’s about building a new spa to substitute the old one that is in ruins. The construction is localized in the middle of a forest but I planned an entrance near the old spa to lead people to the new resort. The walk ends in the lake which gives name to the spa. Prof.: Antonio Armesto, 2nd course The entrance try to contrast with the old spa. Concrete walls and fluent spaces are opposed to brick walls and smaller zones.

In this case, respect the local vegetation was crucial to me so I intended to mantain as many trees as possible.

ESTRUCTURA Estructuralment el projecte utilitza dos sistemes constructius: les crugies i les safates. Però també contempla la mescla d’ambdues.

The project combines two constructions methods. The entrance and reception zone have a structure framework to give the sensation of more space.

The rest of the spa is constructed by a system of parallel walls and corridors. This system give us the possibility to create porches and define thresholds. In addition, walls mark clear axis, which made the internal distribution is easier.

Project of restoration of an old village called ‘Vila Joana’. It’s situated in Collserola, a mountain next to Barcelona. I have transformed the old country house in a rural hotel, assuming all the new services that an hotel requires. In addition, for program desires, I have planned a restaurant in the back. I assumed that the old building was created through the addition of various volumes. So my project started from the top view of the building which show us the union of two rectangles.

The interior distribution was achieved through the location of prefabricated bath modules to organize each room.

This fact became the main focus of the project so I added a new facade to join all the roof walkway.

Project of new construction buildings that tries to join three different urban tissues. On the left and the right is industrial fabric, on the top we find old town and on the bottom isolated buildings. Front Facade We have situated six buildings in each plot: there are four buildings with U form and two linear buildings. The disposition of the buildings create an interior street and a place in the middle of the plot. As the surrounding environment is not favourable we close on our piece of land and create an inner world.

Theoretical project of rehabilitation and reuse of heritage buildings and old factories, supplemented with new construction. The project is able to solve the drawbacks of the site, join finely with the environment, to end up creating spaces and routes that will enrich the neighbourhood. Prof.: Barbara Noguerol, 3rd course

In the ground floor we have situated both the commercials and different spaces for community usage, like bike parking or rubbish containers.

In addition, along the internal corridors we find various squares and indoors gardens that light the way.

On the third floor are situated the walkways that allow the access to the second consignment of houses. We have planned this floor only for residential use, as all the industrial fabric is below it.

urban planning urban analysis Along the courses I have made various analysis of different cities, from Oxford to Sydney. I have decided to put an analysis of the streets of Barcelona because is the first one that I made and I think that itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s very graphic and clear to understand. ephemeral interventions City analysis allow us to plan ephemeral or light interventions to the places that we have studied. In this case I have planned a minimum intervention at the end of Marina street, next to the sea. I situated a couple of carps to indicate the arrival to the seaside and I enlarge the centre of the street to gain a walk with major comfort. Teacher: Maria Rubert, 2nd course

Sometimes streets have no plan, they are only the addition of various items. This is the case of Sarrià avenue. We started the project by analysing the free spaces into or next the avenue, all along its way. Our project will deal with this spaces and the way to integrate them with the avenue. On one hand we have reduced the section of the road to make bigger the pavement, additionally the parking lane gives up some space for terraces. On the other hand, the smaller road permit us to situate a cycleway between terraces and pavement.

The project tries to give a meaning to all the free spaces that this street leaves. Pedestrianization of some part of the neighbourhood streets and change of use are some of the resources that we planned to revitalize this place. We also presented the renovation of an inner block to become a place of public domain where people can escape the noise of the street.

Cities are alive and they always need to expand. This project is situated in Potsdam, a German city. We had to plan 5.000 houses in almost fifteen hectares of ground. The maximum height allowed for the houses was four floors. Finally, the surrounding environment was defined by land and some garden cities.. Prof.: SebastiĂ Jornet, 3rd course

We proposed dealing with the main street. It was remodelled, defining it as a limit: the right part of it was a dense residential tissue and the left side was more porous to converge better with the countryside. 2

East-west, north-south, several frames form a city, and those frames sometimes overlap.The project is based on a axis that rotates and incorporates a new road network.
