Alive Painting, Acrylic on Canvas W:102 H:102 cm 2021 Emily Ocasio

Alive is a painting of a large red face with asymmetrical eyes and an open mouth. Each eye is accented with blue as well as purple shading around the outside. The left eye contains blue streaks coming out the bottom. The background is white and patterned with other red but more simplistic faces with small green accents. This piece is meant to look disturbing but not through using gore-like imagery but rather through its expression of emotions such as hurting, exhausted and stressed that are emphasized through the eyes and under eyes with the deep reds and purples.

Escape from me in the past (habit) Mixed Media, Mixed Media on Board - Wood W:91.44 H:121.92 D:3.81 cm 2021 Ajin No

I am more interested in expressing the invisible world rather than in how to interpret the visible world. This gave birth to my signature mixed media collages combining cityscape with abstract painting. My interest in the city began when I went to study abroad. Being in a strange environment, I suffered from a sense of loss and felt alienated. The use of non-native foreign languages, the lack of communication and ambiguity caused by cultural differences, caused me discomfort and uncertainty. This led to my interest in where I am, my existence, and my identity. Living on the 27th floor in downtown San Francisco for more than 10 years, the scenery I see every day is a spectacular view of the city. Unlike my daily changing identity, the buildings I see are always there. They have invisible forces that depend on how I feel, and that made me feel attracted to the process of becoming involved in a strange world and making it familiar to me in a strange environment. Also, it made me focus o...

With Time You Will See What They Feel Sculpture, Mixed Media W:6.50 H:6.50 D:3 cm 2019 Adwowa Obeng-Osei

Copper, brass, glass, clock motor, powder coat. I believe letters are jumbled in the minds of the dementia patient, making it difficult for them to form words in communicating. This piece mimics the play of time and change, as well as forcing the viewer to experience how they feel when the viewer try's to find the letters of their names.

Occasionality, unknownness, directness, and emotion are the essence of my paintings. Explore the self-spiritual world. It's like stepping into the primitive wilderness. Primitive, innocent, and wild. There are fragility, doubts, destruction, struggle, contemplation, breakthrough, and rebirth.
