Marc Olthoff Photography

After Graduating as an MSc. in Electrical engineering Marc made a career in the foods industry. 21 years later having reached the position of Engineering and Technology director at Unilever, he decided to make a switch to photography thereby following his passion. Realizing that he lacked some of the skills needed to produce the fine-art images he envisaged he went ‘back to school’. He graduated in 2015 as top of the class from the ‘Fotovakschool” in Rotterdam and began to develop his ideas in the fine art. In this his technical background has proven useful in helping him to create his images. As a photographer Marc creates single frame narratives; tantalising fine-art images that capture the viewer’s attention. The intention of his images is not to be aesthetically pleasing, but rather to touch the viewer and to trigger his/her imagination. Marc often places the viewer in the position of a voyeur. A witness to a strange situation that was most likely not meant to be seen. The images frequently show an incomplete story or an unexpected twist. Studying the image, it can become apparent that there are references to persons or items outside of the frame, or that there are unexpected elements that raise questions. The viewers are invited to ponder and wonder about what it is they are actually seeing, what it means and eventually to decide on a personal ending to each story. Recent Group Exhibitions (extract): 2021: “Future landscapes” Venice; “London Contemporary” London. 2020: “Seeing women” France 2019: “Kunstschouw” Netherlands; “Zomerexpo Museum de fundatie” Zwolle (NL) 2018: “Kunstgalerie Bleiswijk” Bleiswijk (NL); “Kunsttoer" Lansingerland (NL) Awards Marc received almost 100 awards from international contests split over 55 different images. Abraham Darlington Digital Arts, Mixed Media, Painting

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, I’ve always had an interest in art, especially tattoo art. It wasn’t until I developed a shoulder injury that I began to thoroughly pursue my artistic interests. I have no formal art training. Everything that I have created has been through hard work, experimentation, and imagination. I do not follow a specific style or school of thought when I create art. I enjoy all styles and mediums but I have a proclivity for street art, graffiti art, abstract art, minimalism, and cubism. My paintings are typically done spontaneously and quickly being completed within a sitting or two. I use all types of tools including brushes, palette knives, spatulas, combs, sponges, spray paints, stencils, even my own hands. When creating art my only rule is There Are No Rules! It’s a completely free flowing uninhibited experience that I thoroughly enjoy.

Maxine Leu Sculpture, Painting

Maxine Leu is an interdisciplinary artist, art educator, and environmentalist from Taiwan. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Tainan University of Technology (TUT), Tainan, Taiwan and her Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Her work focuses on the environment, communication, and identity. Leu’s work was exhibited at a number of venues including The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany in 2021; Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, New York, USA in 2020; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan in 2018; National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei, Taiwan in 2014; PingTung Art Museum, PingTung, Taiwan in 2013. In 2015, Leu came to New York from Taiwan and became interested in the cultural differences between Western and Eastern cultures. She has been promoting workshops and classes about upcycling and recycling that have been inspired by concerns over global warming, waste production, and other environmental issues. Leu uses humor as a delivery system for activist work. She transforms materials that's familiar, everyday objects and commonly considered waste materials as the raw materials for her work into situational, humorous, and metaphorical artworks that double back and question our relationship to the commonplace things she started with.

Craig Wortman Painting

Craig Wortman is an abstract painter whose comprehensive work conceptually handles the discipline’s medium in a multidimensional, multifaceted progression. His process is predisposed to a sculptural manipulation of the materials and ultimately emerging as paintings. Craig attended Northern Illinois University, studying fine art, and then moved directly into commercial success as a scenic artist. He has had an integrative career for over twenty years, fabricating and designing both 2D and 3D for corporate events, theatre, retail display, and large-scale art installation, while at the same time moving forward with his fine art development. Together this has afforded him the opportunity to push the parameters of experimentation with countless materials, techniques, and concepts. He was born and raised in Chicago and is now raising his own family in Minnesota as he works mainly on the advancement of his fine art practice.

Scott Ward Photography

Though photography has been a part of my life since I was a child, it has operated in the background of my career as a financial manager, largely a private affair, existing solely for my own enjoyment of the world around me. It wasn’t until an unexpected change in my professional status in 2016 that I decided the time was ripe to pursue a more formal manifestation of my avocation. I chose the name Beartown Road Design for my artistic endeavors as an homage to my father’s birthplace, a small poultry farm located on that road, in Painted Post, New York; a location at which I spent many youthful summers with my family, where I learned to appreciate the subtle beauty of the rolling hills of rural New York. I rarely now take photos with an obvious focal point, seeking to highlight underlying pattern, form, or texture in my subject, and when possible, to link my images to some theme of social justice or ecological awareness. I live with my wife and son in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Matt Gabler Painting

Matt Gabler grew up in a family of creatives. From writing, designing, and. most importantly, painting. With years and years of cultivating and mastering the creative process, Matt finally allowed himself to be free in his expressive ways and unstoppable energy. Dedicating countless hours to creating and revolutionizing abstract expressionism. throughout that, he found that there is a bigger purpose than changing the genre itself, but utilizing the genre to tell a message. A message that anyone and everyone can understand. Through his paintings, there are depictions, emotions, and more that showcase scenes in our lives or scenes from our heads, and through that process, the message becomes very clear. It’s personalized for each and every single person that views his works. So please, look, enjoy, and share your thoughts.

Charles Jones Digital Arts, Photography

My objective is to produce surreal and abstract images through ultra-realism of flowers and plants. Every part of most of my photos is tack sharp even though the subjects are as small as 1/8 inch. This is what I mean by ultra-realism. I achieve this by using focus stacking. This technique can provide over 150X magnification in 16 x 20 inch prints. Such high magnification allows my images to become surreal and abstract to the point that it is not always obvious what the subject is. This achieves my desire to have people enjoy a purely sensory experience based on color, shape and texture. But people inevitably ask me what the image is of and how I achieve the depth of field. To me, this illustrates that people have a natural curiosity about science. My sense of awe is always enhanced when I understand the science involved behind an experience. I hope my photos provide this same sense of awe in others. My two main artistic influences are Georgie O’Keeffe and Dr.Seuss. My ultrarealism is partly influenced by the Harvard University Glass Flowers created by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka along with Maria Sibylla Merian who, circa 1700, provided detailed illustrations of the life cycle of insects – especially butterflies. For surrealism I draw on Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali. M.C. Escher also plays a role as do mathematics, science, science fiction, and fantasy. I am a retired mathematician. My career was in the aerospace industry and included coordinating research with small businesses and universities. I’ve always been a plant person. I’ve maintained gardens and indoor plants since a child and have done some extensive wildflower identification. I became more serious about photography when I retired in 2014. I started using focus stacking at the end of 2015. Besides photography, I have a variety of interests including science, philosophy, secular activism, hiking, marble collecting, weaving, and playing saxophone. I also write the Starting From Doubt blog.

Elizabeth Osborne Digital Arts, Painting

I never knew what I was made for. I love teaching but I never thought I was smart enough at one subject to properly educate. I love talking but I'm too shy to stand up in front of large crowds, I love singing but I have a terrible voice. In my spare time as a teenager I would read tons of books, sketch, paint, write poetry, anything creative I loved to do. I was so pressured to go to college and get a degree. How do I choose? I don’t know what I'm made for. All the personality tests say I should be an artist. My mother would kill me. I have to go to college so I can make money. That’s what is most important. Right? I am the ultimate let down. I failed my mother. I didn't go to college. I "ran away," joined the Navy when I was 20. I figured I could help people by enlisting in the military and maybe be able to discover myself in the process.I was assigned the rating of an HT. The ships pipefitter, plumber, welder, Fire Marshall, Damage Control. I had no clue what any of that was. I've only used a hammer before in my entire life. I can handle it. I can handle anything that comes my way, even when I'm drowning. I adapt because that’s what I had to do to survive. After 10 years in the Navy I finally mentally cracked and realized the self destructive road I was going down. It was an anguishing 30 years of my life but every life event I overcame has led to my personal growth and self-awareness. Through art I have discovered who I am and what I aspire to be.

April Fitzpatrick Digital Arts, Painting, Mixed Media

April Fitzpatrick is a registered art therapist, mixed media visual artist, and CCO of Pineapples with Purpose, LLC, a mental health organization that introduces art therapy to communities impacted by race-based traumatic stress. Her artistry marries contemporary abstraction with experimental narrative to produce paintings and collages that capture the layered realities of Blackness, racial trauma, and oppression. She positions her artistic practice within Black psychology, exploring the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movement as foundational guides and explorations of identity development within a racialized society. April’s unique spin on the pineapple attempts to demystify the process of expelling racial trauma and uses the fruit’s symbolism to consider narratives of racial tension that have impacted self, family, and community. Fitzpatrick’s principle purpose is helping individuals uncover, assess, and externalize challenges that affect their wellbeing. In the past year, Fitzpatrick’s project, The Pineapple Metaphor: Expanding the Narrative, explored the use of art, art therapy and symbolism to activate the inner self. Her work was featured in Black Minds Mag: Issue 2, Art Seen: The Curator’s Salon Magazine, and ART4EQUALITY x LIFE, LIBERTY, PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS Exhibition Catalog. April has shown her work in over 10 cities with one being a group exhibition in Tribeca, New York which was featured in Forbes magazine and a bus station ad of her work in Miami, FL. To add, she was selected by Ely Center of Contemporary Art for a 2021 Virtual Solo Exhibit and invited by the Curator’s Salon (London, UK) to share her work in an upcoming publication series. Currently, April manages an art therapy program in Tallahassee, FL where she integrates sociocultural theory, symbolic interactionism, and social justice to create a sense of place for her clients. April believes that in order to turn pain into purpose, you must “Make Room for Your Crown!”

Charlton Corson Photography

Chuck Corson of Charlton Edward Studios a native of Denver CO USA, is a beginning digital photographer excited to capture timeless moments of beauty in the world of: animals, cars, travel destinations, and people. He started learning about Black and White 35 mm film photography using a Pentax ME Super during high school classes in the mid 1980s. During this time one of his arts works: Called Power of the 80s of two motorcycles was on display at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities for a student exhibit. His photography instructor encouraged him to submit. After graduating he pursued other career interests. A few years ago he purchased a used Pentax K-5 DSLR and began revisiting his former passion. Chuck first started taking pictures of his cat, ducks at the park, and the moon or Cat, Moon, Duck series. He soon wanted to gain more experience working with models so he attended a local photography Meetup class called Motorcycles and Models. He then starting taking more Meetup classes and learning at a professional studio regarding lightning, model interaction, camera settings, to capture the wow shot. On his own he hired a local model for an artistic woodland shoot. One of these pictures called "Julia" was selected for the 2019 Art Show and Sale at the Louisville Center for the Arts Gallery. In addition the photo was also featured on the advertising posted for the event. The event was during the Labor Day holiday. In the same year 2019 one of his travel artwork of a bronze bull was taken while in Greece at the Olympia Museum called "Bull Market" was selected for the Art Sale and Show at the Littleton Arts Depot Gallery for their Annual event. During Covid and the year 2020 presented many challenges but did not deter Chuck to create more artwork. Early in the year he was contacted through Social Media to work with a rising male model called Brendon. In June of 2020 Brendon also involved Dereaye another stellar model. Chuck had purchased at the thrift store several men clothes, suits, ties, and shirts for a purchase of USD 20. At the shoot Brendon and Dereaye quickly went through the clothes and added their own style which is featured here. Chuck looks forward to working more with Dereaye and Brendon. Chuck is currently attending more Meetups and networking with local professional photographers and models learning working with Gels, multi lighting, props, and advance concepts so he can, on his own, practice and create more art.

Eric is influenced by his family ties and family members who are also artists. He fondly remembers being introduced to various movies through family members and the positive experience of viewing films. He also gravitates toward figurative drawing and the expressions within portraiture that remain part of his practice.

Lynda Gardner Digital Arts, Painting, Photography

After moving bak to Los Angeles from NYC in the early 80's, I began working on low budget, non-union films in the art department for Roger Corman. Malcolm Morley, m painting mentor, suggested I find a job that paid enough so I could afford to paint. Eventually, my friend Rae Fox and I production designed cult favorites such as "SID AND NANCY', 'REP MAN' and "BORN IN EAST L.A." (The last won Best Art Direction at the Havana Film Festival out of 90 films). I am currently a Union Set Decorator, nominated for two Emmys. I have continued to paint all these years and now want to become a thriving artist and leave a legacy. I am not necessarily a Photo Realist, but based on my "snapshots" I'm allowed the luxury of pausing to add ideas, stories emotions and humor to the canvas the push the tactile and color boundaries of oil paint. Painting seems to have no consistent solutions and certainly no clear end. That's the joy of it for me, a continuing path of exploration.

Newel Hunter Painting

Born in 1947, Hunter graduated in Journalism from the University of Oregon. He operated his own brand consultancy and design firm in Seattle, Washington for 15 years, followed by a decades-long busy and awardwinning freelance writing career. But making art has always been his first love. As both writer and artist, Hunter’s paintings are deep and mysterious, employing highly physical gestural marks to create endless possible interpretations. Even at their most abstract his canvases speak to the viewer, replacing words with paint which is scraped and spread into fluid, sculptural compositions. The reduction of color in Hunter’s work intensifies the impact, where each mark upon the canvas leaves a spectral trace -- like an exoskeleton waiting for flesh. His 'Tales of Dark and Light’ collection features translucent forms with only hints of substance and color, dancing upon deep black surfaces in the artist’s unique calligraphic style. Hunter’s art is widely represented in collections within and outside the U.S. He has exhibited extensively in regional and national juried shows and consistently appears in curated international art magazines.

When I was nine I would join my Mom with her local art chapter association in a shopping mall in Miami, Florida. I would set up my slightly odd acrylic paintings of unrecognizable planets and galaxies on canvas alongside the chapter members oil paintings of palm trees, nude studies and sandy white beaches. I did not know it at the time, but that experience shaped the beginning of a life-long body of work. Conjuring up the spaces in between the intangible qualities of the cosmos and our physical bodies. Work that reaches to connect body/self with a mysterious universe. My Father is from Mexico, My Mother, New England. I spent my early years moving from the east to west coasts navigating the terrain in the middle I call this the search “the third thing’. An anchor to belonging. I am a multimedia artist, educator and writer. I hold a BA in conceptual photography and an MFA in painting. I have exhibited in numerous gallery and museum shows throughout my career, been the recipient of awarded art fellowships all while maintaining a passion and dedication to facilitating individual expression of creative art makers. I mentor and teach in a multiple of diverse settings that include Universities, Outreach programs, art and retreat centers around the globe. In my passion for painting, I have risked-deconstructed-shuffled-veiled- denied- wrestled- reckoned with and resurrected surfaces over and over again. It’s to date my longest standing relationship and I hold deep reverence to the process. I currently live and work in Santa Fe, NM.

Tadhg Slater Digital Arts, Painting

Tadhg Slater's work reflects the expression and interpretation of modern events, times, and experiences both public and personal in nature. Always seeking to evoke thought and create dialog. Tadhg does not shy away from the controversial and he shines light into the darkness humanity tends to hide from at times. Paint, passion, emotion, and drive, combine to create the most raw and emotional expressionism and pop pieces to come down the pike. Inspired by the roughest of beginnings the strokes of each piece are filled with a need to convey that which cannot be left for words alone. Experimental in nature, expressionist by definition, unique by design. Tadhg Slater uses paints, industrial and alkyd enamels, pigments from modern day, through to the most vintage in Polymer Paints. From his early beginnings in the projects of Boston Massachusetts, to his 3 years at Harvard University (Constitutional Law Major) Tadhg has never done what was expected of him, nor fit any molds society placed in his way. Tadhg is self taught and has worked under numerous critically acclaimed artists that he refuses to name in his quest for a stronger ability to express himself and the world around him in a virtual world of anonymity most artists refuse to live in. Tadhg Slater's works are available in fine art galleries in the northeast and NYC.

Laurey Bennett-Levy Digital Arts, Photography, Printmaking

Born in New York, Laurey Bennett-Levy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at S.U.N.Y Albany where she studied painting. Now she resides in both Los Angeles and NYC. The genesis of her return to painting came when her 13 year old daughter at the time, was studying life sciences under a microscope and then again 4 years later, they came upon the cyanotype. She was the inspiration that helped her move through very difficult moments as she retreated into her studio for years. As a graphic designer of 28 years which greatly influences her work, Laurey focuses on the cyanotype because the medium unites her endless collection of photography and the medium is endless, graphic and vastly unexplored and few combine it with other techniques. Her travels have deeply influenced her art and in this series are the basis for each piece. The aggregation of these images from her travels fed her content and she started noticing a repetitive, visual thread with regard to certain images in nature and in architecture. In addition to painting, Laurey is an art advocate supporting local public schools in greater Los Angeles and has directed curriculum based school-wide art shows and in-class education to support the underserved. She has been selected by Arts for LA and The LA County Arts Education Collective to participate in their Fellowship Programs to ensure that Title One Schools not only receive quality arts education but equal arts education.

Tak Salmastyan Painting

Dr. Tak Salmastyan was born in the mountainous Lori province of Armenia during the Soviet period and was named after his grandfather Takvor, whose name means "The King." In Dr. Salmastyan’s words from his “Window to Freedom Tak Salmastyan Paintings” book: “Takvor is a very ancient and traditional Armenian name, perhaps last used, prior to my grandfather, in the 7th century. Because of its antiquity, my mother told me she was afraid that when I became a young man I would hate my first name. But throughout my youth, as it happens still to this day, my friends greet me with the sentence “Long Live the King!” Is there anyone in the world who could dislike a name like that? Several years ago, one of my friends and collector, looking to some of my work said: “You are a true master and a non-compromising spiritual hooligan.” I was very much pleased, and few years later in my first book “Window to Freedom Tak Salmastyan Paintings” I officially declared myself the King of Spiritual Hooligans. I am also very passionate and very much enjoy teaching and consider my students as my investments for the society. I believe that a great teacher gives the same energy, love, and passion to teaching them even if they have different cultural backgrounds, skills and personalities. For me, the ultimate reward of being a teacher is when I inspire my students to be good and to do the best they can in all aspects of their life. My students once wrote the following about me in their college newspaper: “People are easily inspired by this talented professor. His effect on the school is positive and inspirational. The best compliment Tak has ever received was when a fellow professor said to him, “Tak, your reputation precedes you – all students want to be like you.” Currently Dr. Salmastyan, teaches drawing, painting, animation and other art related and unrelated subjects in Southern California. These days his students call him Doc Tak, which always makes him to smile.

Nickolas Viele was born in West Covina California in 1982. He grew up the youngest of three children. As an infant his family relocated to Rochester, New York where he still resides today. Growing up in poverty he learned to appreciate all aspects of life around him. Art was an outlet for Nickolas, and he found his place in the world of art as a sculptor. Early in Nickolas’ career, Robert Rauschenberg had been a source of inspiration when it came to Nickolas’ sculptures and the stories he tells through his work. Nickolas completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture at the College at Brockport in the fall of 2019. Nickolas moved on to completing his Master of Fine Arts at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the spring of 2021. Marc Quinn with his knowledge in casting, and materials, have allowed Nickolas to open his mind up to new and exciting ways to connect with his audience. With his knowledge of traditional techniques with practices in metal-working and fabrication, along with a clarity of form, Nickolas creates minimal visual confusion for the viewer. He still lives in Rochester, and his work has been showcased in the Brockport and Rochester area since 2017.

Silvia Forni Photography

I was born and raised in Florence, Italy. I moved to New York City in 2004 to purse a career in Photography and Film. I always loved the City at night, no one was really around after a certain time and, at the time, I was helping my friend at a bar, so, every time I would finish to work, I would walk around the East Village to find interesting people/situations/places to photograph. If I remember well this photo was shot with my old Nikon F at 2 am in the morning. I thought it was dark and cool at the same time. People in New York have the tendency to never stop, they keep walking so fast all the time, that if you stop, the world will crumble around you. I stopped. And this image is the perfect explanation of what happens if you do. Ironically talking, a mess. I always loved black and white photography. Sally Mann, Robert Capa, Diane Arbus, who said “I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them.” So that’s where everything started. I find inspiration in people’s faces, behavior, body movements. It all makes sense there. I live between Italy and the United States. My husband is a creative, like me. My Art shifted and I became more conscious of the reality and surroundings around me after I had my child, who inspires me everyday. I feel that we are all evolving and learning all the time, but after you have a kid you understand the absolute importance of taking pauses. That help us seeing the real beauty of life. I’d like to thank all great family and friends including my husband, my dad Massimo, my aunt Lia and my friend Arda, for their support and kindness.

Ken Rabbers Photography

Ken Rabbers discovered his passion for photography more than 50 years ago. Cameras improved and processing moved from the darkroom to digital over the years, as his work in color and black-and-white images evolved into exceptional art. “Ever since I can remember, I’ve admired those who could compose a photo of a natural scene that would give me great pleasure and a desire to see the location in person, or to wonder what the photographer had to do to get a particular shot,” he says. “I wanted to be there and see it for myself. I still get that feeling today, and I want to give that feeling to those who view my photos.” A contemplative artist, Ken finds inspiration in nature, architecture and landscapes. “I love getting outside and viewing our natural environment in differing light. The soft glow of early morning and late evening, eerie fog, star-lit skies, a golden moon, those special times of day,” he says. “I don’t add color while processing my digital negatives. Instead, I coax the colors and hues that nature has provided to achieve the look that my mind interpreted when I captured an image.” Technical perfection is a goal, but Ken’s quest is pressing the shutter when he finds the “decisive moment” — that fleeting second in outdoor photography when the light becomes absolutely perfect. Getting the shot when the light is just right makes for good photography. “I like to look for different perspectives from which to compose a shot. I am constantly trying to learn, and to improve my techniques to better express what my mind sees when I look at a scene,” he adds. “Everyone has the unique ability to see something that no one else does; different colors, different shapes and textures, different contrasts. How the eyes see is very similar in various individuals; how the mind interprets what the eyes see is vastly different. My images and prints are a representation of what my eyes see, my camera captures and my mind interprets,” he says. In addition to his website, Ken's photos can be seen at Art IN Hand Gallery in Zionsville, Indiana, and Indiana Artisan in Carmel, Indiana.

Lee Riley Sculpture

Riley grew up in Texas where his grandmother, a well-known artist, instilled in him a passion for the arts. Unfortunately, she had lost a daughter at the age of nine to cancer. This event traumatized his grandmother and mother who ultimately persuaded him to pursue a career as a cancer researcher and oncologic surgeon. The majority of his life was spent learning and practicing his profession. Ultimately; however, his training left him unprepared for the emotional weight associated with helping patients with cancer. “At times things didn’t turn out well” Riley recalls “I needed to find a way to return to work the next day fully recharged.” Remembering his childhood roots, he turned to art. Today he lives in Bethlehem Pennsylvania and his artistic work combines Nature’s vast minerals with all varieties and phases of glass. He has become a self-taught artist, driven by a passion for his patients. The minerals provide a wide variety of color and contrast, but more importantly, he sees them as statistical impossibilities and yet their existence validates his patients’ hope for a cure. He uses blown, kiln-worked, or cold-sculpted glass to manipulate light to showcase the minerals. Conceptually these materials are worked to reflect hope, healing and the underpinning thought that “Life is a gift!”

Greg Smith Drawing, Painting, Photography

I was born in Sydney, Australia and from early childhood I found myself fascinated by the beautiful world of colors. I was seldom found without a pencil or brush in hand and despite attending art classes throughout my schooling, it was drawing with either colored or graphic pencil that really captivated my attention. Though I was the only one in the family most involved with painting and drawing, it was not until I graduated from high school and preparing to seek a career as a commercial artist (aka graphic designer) that I discovered I was color blind. My optometrist at the time accredited my knowledge and recognition of colors due solely to my artistic talent from childhood. Over the years I have worked with oils, acrylics, watercolor, inks, and pastels ... but always return to my favorite medium — colored pencil. For quite some time now my style has concentrated on portraits of animals and people — most work being commissioned. When time allows, I find inspiration for my own work in nature and the bountiful array of fascinating faces and characters that surround me. Apart from the 3 years of high school art classes, I am self-taught but my continual improvement as had my work juried in numerous art shows winning first and second places and people choices. My artistic style can be described as Realism with an increasing number of my pieces and commissioned portraits finding permanent home in many hearts and homes of families and animal lovers worldwide.

Ted Barr Painting, Design, Mixed Media, Print - Limited, Textile Art

Ted Barr was born in Constance Romania, on the shores of the Black Sea. At the age of four, his family immigrated to Israel. In 1975 Barr was drafted into the Israeli army, in which he served as a regular soldier, officer, and reservist for twenty-six years. In 1992 Barr graduated from Israeli Battalion Commanders' Academy and served as a deputy battalion commander with the rank of a Major. In 1980, after release from his conscripted army service, Barr began seven years of study in his fields of interest: Symbolism, Buddhism, Ancient Egypt, Numerology, and Kabbala and then went on to earn an M.B.A degree in marketing from the Tel Aviv University, graduating in 1990. In 1995 Barr started seven years of private art lessons under the Israeli master Shlomo Tzafrir in Old Jaffa where his first exhibition opened to the public in 2001. The leading concepts in Barr's art are Deep Space and celestial elements, the beginnings of life, embryos, ovum, and the development of the embryo in the womb, inspired by the Swedish photographer Lennart Nilsson's images. Barr does not sign his name on his canvasses. Instead, he developed a private symbol that encapsulates his esoteric studies experience and represents his life philosophy written in his FLY book. Barr has since exhibited his works in New York, Montreal, Palo Alto, Perugia, Guadalajara, Detroit, Chianciano Terme, San Antonio, Cannes, Miami, Toronto, Venice, Mumbai, Delhi, Kathmandu, Jaipur, Udaipur, Berlin, San Francisco, Dallas, Delhi, Tel Aviv, and Paris.

Wendy Smith Mixed Media, Painting

Despite having taken a few art classes in college, I wouldn’t consider myself classical trained in the arts. My first year in college I took a Creative Behavior class and my love for art began to blossom. In pursuit of a consistent income for my family I chose to pursue a career in education, later returning to my love and passion for the arts after retirement. The story of my mixed media began with my sons first grade project an author illustrator study of Eric Carle. My son and I created paintings and used a collage approach to make books and posters. Soon after I started teaching and for the next 25 years I taught this very theme. The joy it brought to the children’s faces as their characters came to life from a pile of colorful art cut into patterns. Additionally, I have created works with colored pencils, oils, painting on glass and most recently mixed media. Over the years, my art has progressed through metamorphosis and I believe it will continue to. The next stage for me came when my cousin Amy…my best friend died suddenly in her sleep; through the pain I cried , I prayed, and I ruminated on “Why?” In deep prayer, an image came to my mind of Amy and it churned in my heart until I had to draw what I had seen. I had never done a portrait before and wasn’t sure how to create the image in my mind, eventually I began to do what came naturally to me adding cut collage pieces and various mediums. Upon completion, it was like I could feel the turbulent waves of life’s emotion and the drawing transformed into a vibrant mixed medium. So, I chose to name this piece “Transformation”. God assured me that Amy was not dead but transformed. A short while later I traveled to Kenya on a mission trip, where I met Victoria Wanjiku, a young girl from the center I visited. When I was leaving, she poured herself into my arms with tears streaming down her face. I will always hold her face and strong faith in reverence. Victoria and the other children inspired my next work “Gods Handiwork” an image of the National bird of Kenya- The Lilac Breasted Rolling Bird. An interweaving of cut paper which evolved into intricate feathers like the intricacies of the lives of those who live there and how their lives have now been interwoven with mine indefinitely. I used prints of my bird piece to deconstruct and create medium for my next work - “Heavenly Prayers”. This work displayed yet another heartstring tying me to Kenya. While I was there, another young girl at the center Ivy Nafula was always by my side taking care of me. She was like god’s angel here on earth and I was inspired to create an angel in her honor. The bird , “God’s Handiwork“, would have found its way to Victoria in Kenya if was not for Covid striking. Instead, I posted this piece on social media to bring awareness to the news in Kenya and a viewer liked my work so much that he contacted me and arranged an introduction for me with local renowned artist, Lucretia West. She graciously offered to give me art lessons. In just a few short weeks after her formal training in perspective, shading etc. I began to see the world differently - in lines, shapes and shadows. Where I was blind as an artist now I could see. I used my new skills in my most recent piece I created called “Refuge”. The background is one of my photos I printed with special effects on canvas. I stretched my abilities by adding sculpture to this piece. My cutting materials Don’t end with paper and photos alone but also with fabric, yarn and other materials. I continue to experiment adding different dimensions to my art and I believe the possibilities are endless. As each of us humans are connected one to the other….in birth, in death and in daily life. So too is my art.

Victor Adeniran Digital Arts, Painting, Photography, Digital Painting, Illustration

Victor Adeniran was born in Denver, Colorado but moved to Nigeria with his parents soon after that, where he would spend the next 17 years. While living almost two decades in Nigeria, he fell in love with various forms of art — but it was the intersections of dance, painting, sketching, and drawing that held his attention the most. After moving back to the U.S, he then served in the United States Marine Corps for over 13 years, where he visited a laundry list of countries that ultimately inspired, informed, and enhanced his creativity. Countries like Japan, Thailand, Laos, Australia, Germany and Kuwait were among the various locales where Adeniran admired and internalized the splendor. He found beauty in all these places regardless of what the naked eye might have been seeing and incorporated these elements into his work. His work uses media such as ink, pastel and digital mixed into one to create the pieces you see before you. He has also had the chance to study dance at Paloma’s College in San Marcos, California, where he majored in Dance Improvisation. He also performed for and studied with companies such as Culture Shock San Diego and Debbie Allen Dance Academy Los Angeles. Upon moving back to Denver after his time in the military, Adeniran performed and continued to enhance his skills and knowledge with MOTH Poetic Circus, as well as participating in various immersive events with the locallyowned production company MOXIE Luxe. Victor is always working to improve his skills and bring a sense of love, togetherness and unity to all his work. In the past year, the artist has had the chance to showcase work with companies such as RAWArtist locally, Toronto Ontario ,Canada, in Los Angeles and also at Gallerie Mellanrum in Stockholm, Sweden. He has also shown works at Hillcrest San Diego at the studio door. You can also find his works in recent publications like Bogoss volume 3 released in July 2021, and Observica magazine released in September 2021.

Rick Hurst Photography, Digital Arts

My childhood refuge was to immerse myself in the natural world around me — experiencing the beauty of nature, the vibrancy of color, the variety of architecture. This eventually led to a 1982 Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Art History from the University of Southern Mississippi, and to a 1984 Summer Course in Illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York, NY. Not finding a job in the arts field, I joined the federal government in the mid-80s, and eventually retired in Washington, DC as a paralegal. After moving to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, I converted my new garage into an artist’s studio, and revived my talents in acrylics and watercolors and my interest in abstract forms. I participated in art markets, artists’ coops, galleries and art shows, even winning awards and mounting a 6-month one-man show. All these venues were in multiple cities in Alabama and western Florida. To satisfy my cravings for new avenues of creativity, I began experimenting with digital photos of nature, architecture and my own artwork, altering colors and combining images in multiple overlays. By the time I moved to St Petersburg, Florida in 2016, I was wholly committed to the digital art world. Now my tools for expressing myself as an artist have changed: I work with clean hands — no brushes, no pencils, no splattered acrylics, watercolors or oils — and I can take new photographs and work digitally from any location. My photography captures the beauty and spirit of nature and the real world. I meld these into digital artworks using multiple exposures, layers, color transformations and advanced art filters – images which may live through many iterations. Each digital image is my personal expression of inspiration from the real world, explored and revealed through my own artistic imagination.

Kathleen Painting

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada by parents of Caribbean heritage. I was always creative; my favorite classes were Art and Math. My initial dream was to become an architect but those ideas were quickly pushed aside, “that is too competitive for a woman!” my mother would say, “you need to become a nurse!” In 1992 I graduated from Nursing school and passed the Nurse’s Boards. God’s plan is never wrong as I also LOVED my career as a nurse! I always dabbled in the arts, self teaching until I discovered my passion for painting (oils). I found my solace, peace, restoration, and survival. By 2015 I was the mother to 4 young adults, a tween and a 4-year-old grandson-still working as a nurse in the field of Oncology. But the itch continued, and I started to offer a mobile paint party/session service just as the “Painting with a Twist” was becoming a household name. I created an LLC in 2017-Smallxpressions Art Studio-“Bringing your Visions to Life!!”- offering a virtual gallery of unique oil/acrylic paintings for purchase, commissions service, mobile paint party, prints/T shirt with images of my art works. Fall of 2018, I started on the Art Festival circuit and showcased in many shows; I was also featured in EVDG magazine in Philadelphia. Spring of 2019, I was also a contractor where I offered paint sessions for the attendants. In 2019, I added creative unique gift items including my recycled jewelry line, wine glass and coaster sets, acrylic pour holiday ornaments, and stand-alone coaster sets using resin. By March of 2020, all came to a halt due to the pandemic and it has been a struggle-my main exposure and new client acquisition was in person and being a nurse, I was a front line worker, which left little time to pivot to a mainstream online presence. As the cities start to open, I look forward to re-integrating with my audience offering the resumption of showcasing in Arts and Crafts shows, 1:1 mentoring/instruction, and continued evolution of my craft!!

Charles Lehman Photography, Digital Arts

I am just a street photographer, but one with obsessions. Been one since the late 60s, even before anyone thought to call it street photography. I picked up photography while living in Japan and I would just walk around Tokyo photographing people and the streets, learning as much as I could about photography and Japan. My friends would ask why just that and I would reply that that is all I know. I grew up on the streets of the Baltimore around the harbor. There were no scenic vistas or natural surroundings, just row home after row home, night clubs, bars and factories, so I settled on the social landscape rather than the scenic one. Now-adays I see more than just what is in front of me in the viewfinder and manipulate those images. Japan is my second home and I have a non profit site on photography and travel in Japan, The Occasional Gaijin. Over the course of my life I have had careers in cryptography and software development and now I am a fine art photographer. It has been a wild ride.

Her passion for art began in her childhood and has continued since. Mike Mcgoff Painting

I was born in Scranton Pa. In 1957, the first of nine children. From an early age I was attracted to drawing and painting. Some of my earliest memories were of finger painting and wanting to help paint when my uncle and his cousin were painting our house. I was four. Finally, someone let me try painting a small area of the back porch floor. As I remember it didn’t go to well. But, over the years things improved. In middle school I was always drawing. I started copying simple cartoons and eventually progressed to more complex ones. As time went on, I drew whatever I found interesting. As I progressed my folks encouraged me with private lessons, and as a teen they let me paint my bedroom with murals. I eventually found my way to college after a tour in the US Coast Guard. I attended Marywood University. I started in Art Education and discovered ceramics as part of the curriculum. What a discovery. I was hooked. Eventually, I changed my major to ceramics and sculpture, receiving a BFA in 86 and an MFA in 89. During these years I also continued to draw and paint under some outstanding professors. As life progressed after college, I kept up the practice and study of the clay arts. For a short time, I had a studio and gallery which didn’t do well. I eventually lost them. Now without a place to create ceramic sculpture I went back to drawing and painting. I had tried a couple of drawings with colored pencils during the clay times. The technique seemed to developed rather easily. This media and I meshed perfectly. For years I had been taking photos of things I thought I would make into art at some time. This is where much of the subject matter for my work comes from. So, this is where I am now, drawing and painting.

Marie Krajan Painting

I spent my formative years in former Czechoslovakia. I studied painting at the School of Art and Design in Uherske Hradiste, Czechoslovakia. After graduating I continued my studies at the University of F. Palacky in Olomouc, where I majored in Art and Czech literature. In 1972 I emigrated to USA. I spent my professional life as an art director at various well known New York City ad agencies, both consumer and pharmaceutical. A few years ago I returned to painting. I found my new home in California. Inspired by Californian sun and lively art culture, I am following a new path to more creative freedom of abstract expression. I participated in numerous exhibitions in New York and San Francisco area. I subscribe to Henri Matisse’s belief that art should be like an easy chair–feast for the eyes and rest for the soul.

She focuses on acrylic painting and porcelain ceramics. Combining abstraction and realism, her work is inspired by nature and design, giving visual expression to a full range of experience — tranquility, strength, peace, power, softness and solidity. The elements of air, fire and water are present throughout. Anika is an inducted member of the National Association of Women Artists based in New York City. She is an active member of Naples Art and the Center for the Arts, Bonita Springs, Florida as well as the Newburyport Art Association and the Experimental Group of the Rockport Art Association & Museum in Massachusetts. Nicole Jeffords Painting

Nicole Jeffords has had two careers, one as a portrait painter, and one as a fiction writer. In college she studied comparative literature but simultaneously managed to rack up hours in life drawing classes and studio art. In 2006, after years of renting space, Nicole built a studio behind her house in Northwest Austin and has spent most of the time since then focusing on commissions and portraits of people whose faces interest her. She is best known for political portraiture, and for ArtProfiler, an online cultural magazine which she helped found in 2014, acclaimed for its whacky videos, political reporting, art reviews, memes and serialized fiction. After Trump’s election in 2016, she began — out of horror and rage — a series of paintings of Trump and his administration. The portraits were used as the basis for provocative memes, many of which went viral on social media, earning the ArtProfiler editorial staff furious commentary from right wing observers. In 2020, just as Covid was beginning to hit, Nicole was asked to do a portrait of Lilly Ledbetter for a Time Magazine cover. In the months since Covid struck, she decided it was time to leave ArtProfiler and start her own website, NicoleJeffords.com, dedicated to serialized fiction, portraiture and editorial drawings.

Freya Gervasi Sculpture

Freya Gervasi is a stone sculptor who carves alabaster and limestone into abstract pieces that merge her personal style and artistic concepts with natural, organic shapes generating warmth and energy in an otherwise cold medium. Using power tools, compressors and saws, as well as the traditional hammer and chisel, Freya cuts sharp, deep lines to create shapes and spaces that eliminate whatever matter interferes with the unique visual movement that she tries to pull out of every stone. A Denville, New Jersey resident, Freya received a Bachelor of Arts from Glassboro State College (Rowan University) and a Master of Arts in Printmaking from Montclair State University where she studied under Ralph Vernacchia and Lida Hilton. Her etchings have been exhibited in many venues including the Nabisco Gallery, The Leonardo da Vinci Society, The Printmaking Workshop (Fair Lawn and Fort Lee) and The West Essex Art Association, where they won several awards and prizes. In 1982 Freya began stone sculpting and during the past 30 years has studied with Leonard Agronsky at the Sculptors Association of New Jersey, Leo Schulemowitz at JCC Metrowest and Larry Umbreit and Ivan Bratko at Riker Hill Art Park in Livingston, New Jersey. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at Riker Hill since 2005 and has been elected a full Member of both the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and Allied Artists of America in New York City. Freya’s sculptures have been exhibited and won awards at many juried and non-juried shows and exhibitions in New York, New Jersey and New England.

Sheryl Wilson Sculpture

Hello my name is Sheryl Wilson and I was born in Chula Vista California. As I thought about my art journey, and why I became an artist, it is about so many wonderful and challenging roads that got me to here. As a child I struggled with stress and anxiety and often froze in place unable to move like I was stone, with beautiful buckets of spinning color in my mind, I believe to this day it was God’s way of telling me to become an artist. I am thankful to a Loving God that provided me a new strength as a child to make my way through hardship. I often drew and sang as a child as a way to find peace. As I got older I often would doodle, but nothing major as far as art, and then I was blessed to marry my wonderful husband of 35 years. And then our amazing artistic son came along 6 years later. I spent many years being a mother trying to show our son he was more than his condition, that he is a miracle. Now that he is an adult I have put a great deal of myself, over the last 11 years , into showing the world that art is another way to speak and share through color and movement in a way that I hope changes your day for just a moment. It’s never too late to start a new chapter in your life and find the magic. Often people get stuck and need a new way to hear your story and find their own magic. Mine is of love, faith and family. My Dearest husband often expressed he got lost in my art travels, he wondered if I was going to ever land on one art form. I was doing so many different forms of art, from hand painted jeans and acrylic paintings to hand painted wine glasses, and even a children’s story about forgiveness. And then in 2019 a friend was trying to figure out what to get me for my birthday, she told me the best gift was an art class that I got to choose, I chose hand built clay and found my art love and the most exciting way’s to merge paint and resin and speak in color and movement. My husband was so excited at what he saw he got me a class for Christmas. My husband was excited to see this part of me, because he knew I had not gotten to attend school for long as a child. And then I leapt into a college art class and found excitement in the unknown joy of what others often take for granted. I have learned to take nothing for granted, but be thankful for everything, even a dream, because most of my art comes from a dream.

Veronique Toinon Painting

Veronique Toinon is an artist-painter, born and raised in France. She is based in New York. Her large- scale paintings, some measure ten by fifteen feet across are abstract compositions. She likes to explore the metaphysical connections between emotions and a particular moment in time where feelings and space are remembered and distilled into an abstract language of colors, shapes, energy, rhythm and mood. She says, I work until the right moment is released and I have achieved the desired effect, sometimes in quick strokes and at other times adding paint and wiping it off, pushing and pulling my materials. These processes evolve, as the poetry of rhythm and forms unfolds, moving across the canvas in the same way music improvised by a jazz musician progresses. She composes spontaneously, capturing the emotions with her color choices and amplifying movement and energy with aggressive mark making. Immediacy of the paint drives her expression and captures the essential. Emotion is clearly the driving force in her Art. It must acknowledge a common ground with a sense of belonging.

Yan Zhang Painting

Yan Zhang is an interdisciplinary artist based in the Windsor and Detroit area. She has been honing her Chinese painting skill in a contemporary context for the past several years. Originally majoring in Chinese traditional figure painting, she blends watercolor, digital art, and surrealism with her twenty years of Chinese painting experience and creates her meticulous yet imaginative imagery. She has been tempted to push the traditional Chinese painting boundary. Her work aims to explore "the anxiety and struggle" to understand our complex emotions as well as the world around us. She has already been included in various important exhibitions and received several awards. One of her paintings, Ups and Downs, is part of permanent collections of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. Her artwork, Life in Swirl, was selected to display at the Senate Binsfeld Office Building in Michigan from October 2021 through September 2022. Yan earned her BFA and MA in Chinese Painting from Hubei Institute of Fine Art. Now she is an MFA candidate at Wayne State University, USA.

Rustam Tahir Photography

My photography career began in 1970 when I borrowed a camera to take with me to a job at a salmon cannery in Egekik, Alaska. Encouraged by my results I took a photography course from UC extension where I learned the basics of exposure and darkroom development. My first show (Split Images) was at the UC extension art gallery and was inspired by a suggestion from the instructor to explore the creation of images that arose from overlapping exposures, hence the name split images. My 2nd show was portrait themed and grew out of my association with a number of photographers who worked out of the UC Berkeley darkrooms and its small exhibition space. My third show was also a group exhibition in Berkeley: “River Nudes”. In 1976 I presented at a group show: “New and Different: Young Photographers Making Their Mark” at The Photographers Place in Los Angeles. In 1979 I had my first solo exhibition: “Near and Far” at Cafe Roma in Berkeley. My photographic career took a turn when I lived in Chicago from 1984 to 1989. Instead of being a hobby and focusing on Art, I started taking jobs as a commercial photographer. I shot fashion, event, travel, journalism, portrait, advertising brochures, mailers, etc. etc. In 1993 after moving to Rochester and taking an advanced darkroom workshop led by John Sexton, I presented “Watersong” at the Oxford Gallery, a series of images taken in the gorges of the Finger Lakes. In 2016 I exhibited my work at the exhibition space of the Canandaigua National Bank. “Lost in Landscape” featured work from the Finger Lakes, California (seascapes) and recent work from southern Utah (Valley of the Gods). I would say my major influences are Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and way too many painters from Bierstadt to Turner to Monet to Hiroshige to abstract artists such as Pollock and Rothko. I am like a sponge trying to absorb everything that I like. Currently my work is showing at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Vestige Gallery in Pittsburgh, fotofoto gallery in Huntington, NY, and selected work from “Lost in the Woods” at the Canandaigua Bank Gallery in Rochester, NY.

Tami Showers Painting

I am a work in progress. I have a degree in graphic design and I have sold advertising for most of my career. I recently moved from CO to SD and opened a small RV Park with my husband. We wanted to get out of the ‘rat race’ and embrace living in a small town. Currently, I’m selling radio ads, scheduling paint parties, and taking reservations for RV sites when I’m not otherwise busy helping keep our property guest ready. I designed and painted our company logo for use on signage and swag. I’ve sold a few paintings through Cafe and continue to keep my eye peeled for new opportunities. Publishing and beautiful magazines have always attracted me. I subscribe to a new, well designed publication, Girl Camper Magazine that interests me. I have also collected and cherished many years of O Magazine over the years. One day I will reread them ALL cover to cover! The content is so valuable and the design keeps me coming back. Those magazines are a prized possession of mine. I often cut art and/or words out of publications I collect for prospecting purposes and keep them in an ‘idea sketchbook’. I just completed my 3rd class in stained glass - love that form of art!! And I am currently a board member with the Custer Area Arts Council. I was previously involved with the Arts Commission in the Town of Frederick as well. I painted a utility box that still lives on Colorado Blvd and Highway 52 in Frederick, CO. Art in public places is another passion of mine. I am interested in working with wood, metals, glass and fibers... doing some sculpture, welding and 3-dimensional work. Thankfully, my creativity journey continues... opportunity awaits. I am grateful for my faith and my health and every single day that I have been given to think about, explore, find, make and share art. I believe such gifts only become available through practicing patience, kindness, and flexibility. Also, having an open mind, an attitude of joy and a fresh perspective. I’ve certainly been stretched and ultimately blessed with those!

Valerie Jargon is a Korean American abstract acrylic pour artist from Denver, Colorado. She was previously an online and in-person personal trainer after graduating from Colorado State University Fort Collins with a B.S. in Health and Exercise Science with a concentration in Health Promotion in 2019. Valerie was born in 1997 and started exploring the world of art at age 7, taking many different routes of expression throughout the years. Prior to expressing art through acrylic painting, Valerie conveyed art through music, mostly through classical piano and within percussion ensembles. Her new-found interest in painting stemmed from wanting to try new things and learn new ways to manifest emotion through art.
