I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have lived in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and now Richmond, California. Where I live now is very close to the San Francisco Bay. I love the nature where I live; the birds, the Bay creatures, the beautiful shoreline, and San Francisco Bay itself. I paint to reflect my love of the Bay and its surroundings.

East Pacific Red Octopus Painting, Oil Color on Linen W:36 H:28 cm 2021 Jeannette Kortz

The East Pacific Red Octopus most commonly occurs in shallow water on much of the North American West Coast, with a range extending from the Gulf of California to the Gulf of Alaska, and may also occur in the western Pacific Ocean. This particular species was the first invertebrate in which individual personalities were demonstrated. I painted this octopus as it was found locally in an area of the San Francisco Bay known as Point Molate, foraging for food in the tide pools. While not immediately threatened, loss of habitat, pollution, micro plastics, and the rise of ocean temperatures will have a negative impact on this beautiful animal.

Daniil Sinitsa Photography

Hi, my name is Daniel! I am an art photographer, I shoot with a canon 5d mark2 camera. My team is my girlfriend, we discuss my ideas with her at an early stage, and masterpieces come out of worthwhile ones. I started with an art school (thanks to my teachers for putting up with my stubbornness and teaching me to see the light), after finishing it, I gave up painting and left creativity for sports. But, as it usually happens, “one who was born to fly, cannot crawl” and vice versa, I returned to creativity a few years later - I started shooting on the phone and the pictures turned out to be terrible. But I did not give up, but walked, filmed and filmed; then I took my brother's camera and started learning how to shoot with it. Then, I was taken to the army, but there I did not waste time, but studied the technical side of the camera. In general, whoever wants to, in any situation, will be drawn to what he loves. Then, I returned, began to actively shoot, was disappointed a hundred times, but continued to move on. I realized that failures are lessons, and when you treat failures like that, it becomes easier to look at your failures. That is, I want to say that failure is also success and experience. After a year in the army, the filming period began, but also not for long, because you need to go to Moscow to study (but not from photography). I even had to sell my equipment. But even there, for a whole year, I came into contact with the theory of photography. And now, finally, after a break of almost two years, I was able to buy my own camera and over the past half a year I have shot works that have been featured in many magazines. I believe that this is only the beginning, as I want to open a street exhibition of my work and create even better shots.

Rebirth Photography, Color Photography on Photo Paper W:60 H:40 cm 2022 Daniil Sinitsa

Ray Besserdin Sculpture, Mixed Media

32-year career, recognised internationally with 35 awards to date, including two gold from New York, and “Gold Medal for Creativity” from Mondial Art Acadamie, France. Born to artist parents, entirely self-taught techniques of sculpturing dimensionally with only sheet-formed papers, much like bas-relief. Papers are mostly handmade cotton and mulberry stocks from Europe and Asia. Works range from miniature to over 6 by 3.8 metres, and abstract to ultra-realistic. Inspired mostly by painters of the French Impressionist Period and developed a technique to achieve expressiveness using torn papers build up three-dimensionally, where they used paint two dimensionally. Whilst his works can be abstract to figurative ultra-realism, he calls his signature style “Impressionist Sculptured Paper” for its use of torn, raw pieces arranged to form the subject matter. While likeness is important, the focus is to capture emotion, life, and expression over realism, yet always revealing the character of the papers from which the subjects are sculptured. Nature is his favourite subject matter. Works hang in private and corporate collections in London, Munich, Manhattan, Tokyo, New Zealand and throughout Australia.

Julie Davidson Drawing, Painting

Julie Davidson is a qualified artist, photographer and teacher. A renowned artist with over twenty-five years of experience in pastel medium produces intricate paintings of great depth and detail. Julie is disciplined and creative with a diverse and varied portfolio showcasing personal evolution in her artistic journey. Now residing in Washington DC, USA with her husband for the next 3 years, Julie is working on her art full-time building her new collection called, “The New Beginning.” The pastel painting displayed called “The Mind,” is part of her new collection. The eagle/bird is interwoven in different cultures. The eagle depicted in the picture is a symbol for the divine. It holds the keti (a Maori word for bag) bag of knowledge. The brain represents the mind; it is constricted by barbed wire. The constraint is our own negativity, fear, ignorance and intolerance. There is more to life than the bubble we encase ourselves in. Our actions are weighed represented by scales. The snake entwining the spine has no emotion. Judgment or the karmic effect is not vindictive or malicious it is there for us to learn lessons to become higher than ourselves. The water is purity and the feather represents freedom, freeing us from our own constraints if we are able to detach ourselves from what binds us. The pastel painting encourages self-reflection and viewers own interpretation.

Antoinette Foshee Painting

Antoinette Foshee is a contemporary artist currently working in acrylics, yet equally and primarily proficient in chalk pastels and oil paints. She often employs vivid color schemes that are recollective of the hand of a precocious child, and emotive tableau in a neo-expressionistic and impressionistic manner of the likes of Basquiat, Munch and Degas. She gives her viewer a glimpse inside of a moment of a subject unknowing that it is being captured for an audience. Foremost a life drawing figurative artist, her subjects are both capricious and familiar. Her subjects range from figurative nudes to animals while reflecting loose and free brushstrokes. And her use of color is alluring, while the compositions combine both emotional and somatic maturity.

Rich Sheaffer Painting, Mixed Media

Rich Sheaffer resides in San Marcos, California. Since retiring from the electric utility industry at the end of 2016, Rich has branched out into the areas of writing and art. While much of Rich’s career in engineering and management was rather mundane, the exceptions were when he did not follow conventional wisdom and explored on his own without necessarily doing things the accepted, “correct” way. That is when breakthroughs occur, discoveries are made and quantum improvements can be initiated. It is with that spirit that Rich creates art by inspiration and imagination. While Rich’s works generally reflect the angst of a common man regarding events occurring in the political milieu, some have eerily also predicted future events. For example, “The End of Democracy in the National Interest?” was inspired by things said in the course of the impeachment defense in early 2020, yet also proved to predict the rhetoric and events that would follow the 2020 U.S. national election. Rich is active with the Artists Guild of the San Diego Museum of Art, the Artist Alliance of the Oceanside Museum of Art, and others.

At a meeting in December 2017, the administration’s list of seven terms that were to be avoided (banned?) by the CDC were conveyed; one was diversity. Was the prior administration connected to the diverse American people? Should we not be more loving, dancing together as if colors on a canvas?

SungChan Kim Drawing, Painting

I was born and lives in Korea, and has loved to draw since childhood. So, I entered the Department of Visual Design at Kyungsung University, but from my 4th year of college, painting was not included in my life. As 20 more years passed, life, marriage, and work all seemed to go well, but they gradually disappeared one by one, leaving nothing behind. Such things kept repeating, and strangely, the more I lost, the more the picture came closer to me. In the end, it became the only strength left for me.

Born on Long Island, New York, Sarah Venturini began her professional artist career at 12 years old painting personalized flags. In college, she worked in Turkey as an archeological illustrator. After college, she founded her own fashion brand in Seattle which later took her to work in the industry in nyc. In 2019, Sarah took time away from the fashion world to focus on her painting and has been paving forward ever since. Drawing on techniques developed from her childhood education at Waldorf School, archeological drawing, and fashion illustration: Sarah works primarily with a delicate watercolor foundation on paper and builds body and texture incorporating acrylic, colored pencils and most recently pastels. Sarah now resides in Italy, and paints the garden around her house: Always exploring the cyclical balance of natures’ elements, and love of the story within them.

Norman Gabitzsch Photography

I was educated to be a scientist with a Ph.D in Physics, but after finishing Post Doctoral work at Los Alamos, New Mexico, I took a position in the research department of a Multi-National Oil company where I did fundamental research to image the interior of the earth. It was here that I learned the fundamentals of signal processing that I now use for photography. I spent a career with this company performing both research and operational oil exploration. It was a great opportunity to travel and see the world. I am a self taught “artist”. I like to study the work of the Masters both in the Paints and Photography. Painters have the luxury of creating perfect composition and palette with their mind’s eye (there is much to learn from their work), but the photographer has only a short time to find the right composition before the scene changes. The photographer has to develop great instinct and fast non hesitant reactions to do their work outside the studio. This is especially true of Street Photographers. The best way to learn these skills, in my opinion, is go out and take a lot of photographs. In 2017 over 1.2 trillion photographs were made of the existing world. When one stops to think about it, there are very few things that have not been photographed before. For me I find motivation for photography by looking for the shot that others have overlooked. It may be a new Point of View or a different way of seeing light, or even using light that is not visible to the human eye. I have developed a strong style using the invisible light of infrared photography. For the viewer of the photograph I hope they find something that they have failed to notice before.

Samantha Pomp Painting

I’ve been painting in one way or another my whole life. I have learned that painting is my medicine and the path I am on is my Soul’s journey - through paint! I am a self taught artist and it started on rocks as a child, intuitively creating with mud and crayons. From there the most important discovery, you can mix colors to make new ones! From the beginning, the use of bright, bold colors, shapes and texture has played an important role in my cultivation as an artist. As a teenager and in my early twenties, I painted mostly geometric shapes, getting lost in triangles and circles. Later on, trying my hand in more abstract forms and throughout the years my art became more fluid in style. Recently, I have started to work with sacred symbols and geometry, which feels like coming home for me as I began working with shapes. My creativity is my spiritual practice and each painting is filled with deep lessons in trusting my intuition and Soul’s voice. I am passionate about my artwork and the energy around each piece. Each painting is energetically aligned with my heart and soul, filled with trust, love and compassion both for myself and you. My family and I have lived in an RV full time for the last 6 years and we love it! We have spent the last three years in Northern California, sitting still because of the pandemic (I really miss traveling!). I live with my husband of 14 years, our tween twins and our dog. I homeschool our children and we are a lifelong learning family that believes curiosity, experiences, and questions are a great teacher of life.

Jenny Helbraun Abramson Photography

Jenny Helbraun Abramson is a visual artist who uses self-portraiture and landscape photography to explore the mysteries of existence, the spiritual impulse, and our journey through the transformative demands of living. Jenny’s work has been exhibited widely and is held in private collections throughout the United States. In the last several years, her images were selected for exhibition by jurors such as Sandrine Hermand-Grisel, Blue Mitchell, and Wendi Schneider. After studying photographic printmaking at the SUNY Purchase and San Francisco State University, Jenny earned her living as a grant writer, practicing and showing artwork between writing projects. Exhibitions in the 1980s and 1990s included a mixed media series exploring Jewish spiritual traditions, titled “A Jewish Book of Months.” This work toured widely in Northern California, culminating with an expanded show at the Elizabeth S. Fine Museum (San Francisco, CA, 1993). She built a life and a home in Sonoma County, CA with her husband Dave, who died in 2016. To recover from this loss, Jenny rebuilt her art practice using digital photography and returned to full-time artmaking in 2019. Jenny believes healing from the demands of life requires delving bravely into our interior landscape. In 2022 she will exhibit new portfolios rooted in this approach at the Graton Gallery (Graton, CA) and Viewpoint Photographic Art Center (Sacramento, CA).

Gayle Faulkner Painting

From the time I was a small child, I wanted to be an artist. During my childhood, art was not considered to be an important pursuit. In the Kansas City, Missouri school district, we had a traveling art teacher for about½ hour per month. I was also a very academic child and knew that I needed a scholarship to go to college. I got my scholarship to a very good academic collage and graduated with a degree in Sociology. I spent years working with children in a variety of capacities. One day, out of the blue, I decided to be an artist. As usual, I jumped in with both feet. I took some painting classes with the focus on the elements and principals of design. I spent hours in my cold dark basement practicing until I was able to create some good watercolors. My watercolors are painted in a nontraditional manner and I was gratified that they actually worked. I started doing shows around the United States and have won numerous awards, participated in juried exhibitions and have work in private and corporate collections around the world. When Covid drastically changed our lives, I decided to pursue a new direction and started using “Textural Acrylics”. These are created with a palette knife on canvas. Incorporating modeling paste and acrylic gels as well as wood and collage have led me to a new awakening. Painting primarily in an impasto style, I become immersed in the process as I have a “conversation” with the painting so that a joyful merging of color, texture and creativity emerge. Every painting invites the viewer to come into the world on the canvas and make it their own. I love my new direction and can only imagine how my paintings will grow in the future.

His work primarily focuses on creating the relationship between Chinese and Western culture through metal media. His inspiration comes from the architecture where he lived. Ziqin grew up in a small canal town in Shanghai, China, where he started to learn Chinese painting and calligraphy at about eight years old. He inherited a lot of ideologies from his practice on traditional Chinese paintings depicting mountain landscapes, human posture, insects, and temples. Such paintings always overtone a poetic philosophy, which is also what Ziqin would like to achieve in his projects. This unique experience is where he started his journey of art.

Debbie Bzdyl Painting

An Exploration of Myth And Mystery Debbie Bzdyl’s love of art began at an early age. “My mother used to say that I was born with a box of crayons in my hand.” But early on those crayons brought Debbie more trouble than praise. “I just couldn’t resist those blank, white walls in the hall! Bzdyl always felt a bit of an outsider in elementary school. The one thing that did make her feel more accepted was that she was usually the best artist in class. While in College she became interested in graphic design and began building a portfolio of her work. In 1983 Bzdyl got her first job as a graphic artist in a small, local print shop. In 1987 she was hired by the Office of Professional Development at Clemson University to begin their new in-house marketing department. By 1991, while still employed by the university, Bzdyl was also building a thriving freelance business. In 1992 Debbie left Clemson and began her graphic design business, which continued until she sold it in December 2013. This allowed her to return to fine art full time. She feels fortunate to have done so well in a geographical area where representational art is much more the norm. “Many times, either at shows or in galleries where I’ve exhibited, people will often say that, even though they have never cared for abstract art, they like mine. Several of my collectors have told me that my pieces are the first abstracts they have ever purchased.” When asked about her mission as an artist, Bzdyl replied, “My primary goal when creating my paintings is to visually capture the mysterious, the intangible, the emotions and concepts beyond what we can observe in everyday life.” “It is my wish that my art will touch viewers in a deeply emotional way, encourage them to revisit the myths and mysteries of our universe and inspire them to explore their own spirit and journey through life.” Bzdyl’s paintings are in public and private collections throughout the U.S. Her home and studio are in Pendleton, SC.

After high school, I studies drawing and pottery at Washington and Jefferson College and did one semester at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In recent years, I began studying at the Art Shoppe in Houston, PA with artist Becky Mayhew. My area of concentration is oils but also dabble with water color. I still love to draw in pencil and also create hand etchings on granite.

Michelle De La Cruz Photography, Painting, Graphics

As a kid, I grew up daydreaming drawing on the edges of my notebook paper wishing for math class to end. I'm 24 years old now and I still draw on the edges of my notebook paper. Born and raised in New Jersey, USA, with roots from Brazil and Ecuador, it was special by experience to have access to what felt like the whole world. Seeing trends in fashion growing in Brazil, the differences in Spanish music from what the radio usually plays, and the diversity of foods and yummy desserts. As a whole, without growing into mixed culture, I would not be able to create what I can today. My name is Michelle De La Cruz, but I like to go by MD and I love to bring color into the world.

This one gets a lot of love from being my 1st digital drawing after continuously trying to get my hands on an Apple Pencil after countless tries. The reference photo I used was a picture I took in Brazil of 2016 on an iPod touch.

Jojo Liu Digital Arts, Photography

My art practice is based in the rich and beautiful tradition of Chinese calligraphy. Chinese calligraphy is one of the most traditional art forms in the world and is truly representative of Eastern art and culture. My grandfather inspired and taught me to practice Chinese calligraphy from a young age, and I continue to have more love for it every day. By introducing my experience and passion, I present a modern twist to traditional Chinese calligraphy. My work strikes a delicate balance between traditional calligraphy art with a personal flair. I hope to continue to spread my passion for Chinese calligraphy as an art form in today’s world. I’m a current board member for the San Francisco Chinese Arts Association as well as a member of the American Artist Association. My work was published in the 2018 San Francisco Chinese Arts Association Member Catalogue and in the 2019 Chinese American Artists in Los Angeles Member Catalogue.

Lynne Roberto Painting

I am always painting. I dream in colors. I look at things and name the colors I would use to paint them. When I paint I feel I am inside the painting- experiencing the colors, shapes, and light. I feel the wind and the water in my work and when it's done I can revisit those feelings just by looking at it. I sell mostly prints of my work as I cannot seem to let the originals go. I suppose that's strange. I have had by hands in arts and crafts all my life being taught by my mother at a very young age. I was inspired by my parents in everything as they were toymakers and I lived an enchanted childhood.

Oil paint and Indigo Dye on Bleached Muslin. Indigo Gele is a self-portrait and part of an ongoing body of work. I am interested in my heritage and my identity as an African American woman from the American south. The use of indigo dye and cotton, in addition to the triangular shape of my canvas, reference the Trans-Atlantic slave trade route.
