Barbara Shelly Painting

Barbara Shelly is a self-taught mixed media artist. She literally and figuratively tears through the print media, layering it into textured collages using sketches, newspaper, ink and paint. Her creative instincts place the images, covering some for texture and highlighting others. The intentional and unintentional relationships to the subjects emerge in the finished work and leave room for the viewers interpretations. Her love of the performing arts has been rewarded by her paintings finding their way to her subjects including Spike Lee and Stella Abrera, ABT. Barbara’s work has been shown in solo and group shows In Philadelphia and New York. She curated an 18-women show for Women’s History/Art Month (WHAM) at the Goddard Riverside Community Center, March 2020. Barbara is a founding member of Artist Supporting Artists to support the endeavors of other artists.

Beatriz Lopez Painting

Born in Madrid in 1974, within an artistic family. Learn to draw and paint at a young self-taught, surrounded by an atmosphere of painters and sculptors who come frequently to the study of his father, a doctor-painter, in Palma de Mallorca. He studied architecture at La Coruna, abandoning the first year, avoiding stereotypes set by the University. This race takes experience and perspective on notions of construction and afternoons and evenings at street drawing, of which there is a whole block of sea port, his favorite corner of this city. Back to Madrid, his hometown, where just studying engineering, without abandoning the idea of one day devoted entirely to painting. These studies define end of linear and geometric style of painting. Always using a rich chromaticism, acquired during his travels through Latin America, Asia and Europe, and his love of nature, light and color. It is in these last years when he decided to devote himself entirely to painting, moving back to Palma de Mallorca, where he now has his studio.

Ed Whitmore Painting

As a young man, Ed developed an interest in ancient civilizations which led to personal exploration of architectural ruins and reinforced his yearning for a lost past. Themes of decay and loss can be found in many of his pieces, and is reflected in his choice of medium, the evocative build up of patina that develops as a result of the oxidation of iron copper and bronze metal effects paint. When in his early 20s, Ed was enthralled by Mark Rothko’s large color field paintings exhibited in a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum. Lost in spiritual reverie while contemplating Rothko’s works, Ed experienced an ineffable sense of the sublime. This experience left a lasting impression on Ed and has had an enduring influence on his art. He tries in his own work to capture some of that sense of awe that Rothko’s work evokes.

Gabriella Di XX Miglia Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media

Born in Genoa, Italy, Gabriella Di XX Miglia received an education in the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa doing studies with with Rocco Borella and Mimmo Rotella, than for three years continued her training under Guido Chiti and Palma Viardo. Finally in 1979 she obtained a Master Degree in Art Restoration and Conservation. Gabriella's works have been shown annually in both national and international shows. Her paintings are in the collections of private, corporate and public sectors. Gabriella paints a variety of subjects using different media, however she can not be categorized as still life, portrait, trompe lʼoeil, oil, pastel, watercolor or mixed media artist. She pushes herself even more working on sculpture and designing jewelry and fashion. Her ultimate satisfaction comes from continually inventing, stretching and improving herself. Her search for new ideas, new methods, new techniques is a never ending quest as an artist. Gabriella takes pride in being part of a family of artists such as her mother, a fine china painter, her grandmother, a violinist and author, her uncle, Alessandro Casagrande, a pianist and composer, and her great uncle Alessandro Lupo, a very accomplished postimpressionist painter and protegeʼ of Emile Bernard.

Gary Aagaard Painting

As a fledgling illustrator in Brooklyn during the 1980’s, I took on any project thrown my way. I refer to that time as my “snack or famine days”. Eventually, I zeroed in on editorial work and soon scored assignments at publications like The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, NY Newsday and The Village Voice (primarily covers). Since the early 2000’s, I’ve concentrated on gallery work with an editorial, satirical slant... essentially larger oil paintings with conceptual content reminiscent of my illustration years. Lampooning politicians, pundits or spiritual leaders who specialize in alternative facts, manufactured outrage, false equivalents, convoluted conspiracy theories and tunnel-visioned tribalism (whew) is my form of protest and provides a satisfying outlet. Of course, visually addressing the daily insanity of politics, punditry or social upheaval requires an occasional break, which is when I paint relatively non-confrontational pieces. My work has received recognition from American Illustration, 3x3 Magazine, the Society of Illustrators (NYC), the Society of Publication Designers, Print, Art-Competition.net, the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, Artavita and Applied Arts. My paintings have been displayed in many galleries including the Museum of American Illustration (NYC), Gallery-Henoch (NYC), the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum (Washington D.C.), Gallery 110 (Seattle WA), The Studio Door (San Diego CA), David Anthony Fine Art (Taos NM), Arte Ponte Gallery (NYC), Whatcom Museum (Bellingham WA), Gallery 25N (Online gallery), Viridian Artists Inc. (NYC), Greg Moon Art (Taos NM), Contreras Gallery (Tucson AZ), Tubac Center of the Arts (Tubac AZ), H Gallery (Ventura CA), Naples Art Assoc. (Naples FL), Axis Gallery (Sacramento CA), The Center for Contemporary Political Art (Washington DC), Blackboard Gallery (Camarillo CA) and was part of the Museum of American Illustration 2000-2001 Traveling Exhibition (40 selected works). New publication: I have 8 paintings & commentary in "Not Normal: Art in the Age of Trump" by Karen Gutfreund (available on Amazon).

In the classic movie "Being There", many of the pundits, talk show hosts and political advisors mistakenly thought the sheltered Chauncey Gardiner (Peter Sellers) was a financial genius based on his gardening tips. This painting addresses the belief of many pundits, talk show hosts (Carlson, Ingraham, Hannity, etc.), advisors (don't get me started) and Trumpites that Jared Kushner’s limited real estate experience makes Jared qualified to bring peace to the Middle East, solve the opioid crisis, initiate criminal justice reform and oversee a comprehensive response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The thick ink expresses the true emotions. The space between black and white symbolizes the form and consciousness of the landscape, and, through the emotions of the soul, expresses its discourse on the inner emotions and thoughts on life. The free form of art and the infinite sky, the changing structure of natural landscapes, are borrowed from nature. The image is transformed into an inner thought and released, expressing the beat of life, amongst all things of the universe. It represents a mixed form of semi figurative and abstract, combined with oriental aesthetics, and reflects the inner painting language.

Lindsay Hirsch Painting

I started painting as a child. I have taken art lessons (drawing and painting) since the age of 5. I continued to take lessons and majored in Art at my high school; Crossroads, and graduated as a National Arts Merit Scholar. I received both an MA in art history from London University and an MFA in painting from The Slade school UCL. I have exhibited in Europe and the USA. Euan Uglow was my mentor and friend. He has probably been the greatest influence on me and how I see the world around me. I mostly paint from life and developed my use of measurement and color from my time at The Slade in London. When I cannot paint from life, I use photo references, but I definitely feel my vast experience painting from life has helped me see and not be limited by the photograph. My work has evolved as did my ability, but I do think that one can see a quintessential something that would be definable as “me” throughout my life in my work. There are general themes and framing of images that I use throughout my life. I have always been a “life painter” never for one minute wavering from my conviction and deep rooting in the physical world. For me, the physical world around us, the “visible world” is the door to a deeper reality that is always lurking close behind the clearly visible. While I paint from life, I hope to bring a deeper understanding to what I see. Painting is for me both a matter of having something to say and the ability to express that message with clarity and eloquence, a message and the skill to convey it. My work exists at the juncture of skill and intent, form and function or as in Kabbalah "vessel" and "light", both must be one and united.

Muthulakshmi Narasimhan Painting

Muthulakshmi was born in Southern India and was raised in the Netherlands before finally settling in Virginia. She holds a bachelor’s in studio art from Virginia Tech. She started exploring pastels during her bachelors and it was love at first sight. The rich colors and the immediate effect of pastels had her hooked. There was no looking back after that. Although she still works in oil paint, acrylic, pen and ink, and watercolors, pastels are her primary medium. Muthulakshmi’s inspirations are tied into her varied upbringing and Indian roots. The rich cultural history and colors of her country of birth play a prominent role in her art. She seeks to bridge all her experiences onto the canvas through explorations of technique, color, and subject matter.

Rich Sheaffer Painting, Mixed Media

Rich Sheaffer resides in San Marcos, California. Since retiring from the electric utility industry at the end of 2016, Rich has branched out into the areas of writing and art. While much of Rich’s career in engineering and management was rather mundane, the exceptions were when he did not follow conventional wisdom and explored on his own without necessarily doing things the accepted, “correct” way. That is when breakthroughs occur, discoveries are made and quantum improvements can be initiated. It is with that spirit that Rich creates art by inspiration and imagination. While Rich’s works generally reflect the angst of a common man regarding events occurring in the political milieu, some have eerily also predicted future events. For example, “The End of Democracy in the National Interest?” was inspired by things said in the course of the impeachment defense in early 2020, yet also proved to predict the rhetoric and events that would follow the 2020 U.S. national election. Rich is active with the Artists Guild of the San Diego Museum of Art, the Artist Alliance of the Oceanside Museum of Art, and others.

Ryan Brandimore Painting

Ryan Brandimore is an emerging contemporary artist who works with acrylic paint on canvas. His work explores the conflicts between sexuality, religion and acceptance. Modern and classical themes are used to portray messages of equality, love and self-acceptance. He often plays with a mixture of styles and influences, such as the street art you would find in the alleyways of Shoreditch, East London, and the Baroque style of portrait paintings found hanging in the Louvre. Through an acrylic medium, he emulates the textures, worn surfaces and visual grit found in street art. This style taps into a metaphor reflecting the perseverance of beauty in the LGBTQ+ experience, despite the elements intent on tearing it down. After an extended career in international events, Ryan graduated from the Design Communication Arts program with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA Ext.) in 2018 and is now working as a freelance graphic designer and artist. Ryan previously exhibited his work with the City of Newport Beach Art Exhibition in 2019, and currently runs his own home studio in Costa Mesa, California.

My Secret Identity Painting, Acrylic on Canvas W:76.20 H:101.60 D:1.90 cm 2021 Ryan Brandimore

This piece taps into queer identity as personal power. Societal elements may try to tear down gay culture and experience, but we stand strong in our own power and identity with love and beauty shining through. A play on the Superman trope is used to poke fun at the idea that one need only remove their glasses to reveal their inner superhero.

Alphonso Edwards II Painting, Drawing, Illustration

Alphonso Edwards II, a native of South Georgia grew up wanting only to play football. The idea of doing anything related to Art was the furthest thing from his mind however, creative inspiration was never far away. It was not until his sophomore year in high school when the desire to learn how to draw cartoons blossomed into learning how to draw people. And so, the journey began…His undergraduate studies in Art took him from the halls of Albany Junior College, Georgia State University and ultimately, Albany State University where he obtained his B.F.A. in Studio Art. It was during his time at Albany State University that he started his artistic journey with influences by such artists as Edward Hopper, Piet Mondrian, Albrecht Durer and Lois Mailou Jones. An illustrator by skillset but a painter by heart. This is the essence of who he is and where he is evolving from. Media of choice… color pencils, markers, pen and ink, pencil and mixed media. Medium of choice… whatever he can get his hands on. Exhibitions and Juried Art Competitions span over twenty-six (26) years from 1994 to present day that have included South Carolina’s National Juried Art Exhibition (1994), Texas Annual African American Cultural Exhibit (1994), California’s Juried Art Exhibit (1997, 1998), Clayton County Arts Council and Douglas County Arts Council Juried Exhibitions (2001 to 2012); Army Arts and Crafts MWR Juried Competitions (2010 to 2017) and the 7th Annual Sugar Rush Juried Art Exhibition (2021). Awards have included the Northrop Grumman Art Award awarded in 1994 (Georgia State Fair), Palmdale Visual Arts Award (1997) and the Army Arts and Crafts MWR Prize Award (1st place 2010, 3rd Place 2012). he journey has been interesting and the process ever evolving but, the joy is in knowing that he is operating in T the gift that God has given him. Leaving a mark that will never be erased by inspiring others to aspire through art to create, appreciate and inspire. It is his lifetime goal to have his art seen, displayed and enjoyed all around the globe in Galleries, Exhibitions, Businesses and Homes. Everywhere we look there are open spaces to create and express. My style is ever evolving towards being ultimately better at what I do. Enjoy through my eyes, life's beauty as portrayed by me... simply me... Alphonso Edwards II

James Miller Painting, Drawing, Illustration, Graphics, Photography, Sculpture

James Miller was born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 15, the Day of the Dreamweaver according the “The Secret Language of Birthdays”. Those born on this day “simply have a gift for quietly and unostentatiously touching the hearts of family, friends or colleagues….The materials that May 15 people work with come from everyday life but those born on this day have a remarkable talent for putting those materials through a kind of creative alchemy and weaving a resultant tapestry which touches one’s inner core.” Unable to avoid his astrological fate, Miller has been making art of one kind or another for his entire adult life. Always interested in the spiritual, Miller has become obsessed with the idea that life is a really, really good thing, despite the sometimes seemingly overwhelming evidence that the opposite is true. His Happy Face Series and the majority of his other work on his website is dedicated to communicating that message. His introduction to “A Course in Miracles” in 2012 has further confirmed for him that everyone’s “happiness and function are one.” After teaching mostly art overseas for ten years, Miller returned to Canada in 2012 and moved to Edmonton in 2021, where he currently resides.

Laura Krusemark Painting, Drawing

Multi-talented, creative, and inspiring are just a few words that describe Laura. She is a visionary artist who shares the beauty and mystery of both inner and outer worlds through her paintings as well as being a classically trained pianist. Her piano albums Masters of Melody and Sounds of Christmas Spirit are available worldwide. With a B.F.A not only in Fine Arts - Oil Painting and Piano Performance from Bethany College, but also a Bachelors in Fashion Design from The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago, Laura brings a broad range of inventive knowledge and ideas to her creations. Many of her current artworks focus on the female archetypes, connecting us to the Divine Mother and a remembrance that is once again awakening at this time on our beautiful Gaia. Embracing both the feminine and masculine parts of ourselves, we are able to evolve and awaken to an even greater level of awareness and wholeness. Her works bring together those aspects, representing the duality as well as the unity of One. Inspired by the endlessly fascinating patterns and magic found within the harmony of nature, Laura expresses this beauty through her art and music. She works as a fine artist and classical pianist, exhibiting her creations worldwide, while recording original compositions for her future record release and performances.

I created this just two days before finding out about the explosions in Beirut (Summer of 2020) and can see a similar echoing of the chaos/ explosions in the distance here. Samantha Iodice Painting, Mixed Media

From a young age in Northern Illinois, Samantha was that weird, creative kid. She didn't show it too much, or share most of her art and ideas, because she was afraid. Samantha had many fears, but eventually, she learned fear was motivation, inspiration, and most importantly, that she didn't need to be afraid. In 1996, she took her first step towards paint with a beginner’s class at the local community college. She was wildly lucky and landed a brilliant surrealist painter out of Chicago, Ricardo Hernandez, as her instructor. He was more than inspiring he taught her how to feel the paint, move it, and make it her own. From that moment forward, she continually pushed herself and her art. Samantha paints in the abstract expressionist style, using emotions and feeling to bring her art alive. Much of Samantha's art uses the impasto technique with palette knives and found objects - hair combs, paint brush cleaner, and the edges of palette knives help create much of the texture in addition to the impasto style. Constantly trying to broaden and expand, Samantha is always seeking new inspiration and new "tools" to create new works.

When she was 31 years old, she relocated to Germany. In 2011, she debuted as an artist through Poly Gallery, Karlsruhe in Germany. Significantly, she shares her attitude as an artist, philosophy, and stories about her paintings through her website, and communicates with people about the importance of art and what art is. Influenced by her older sister, an environmental activist who is active in Korea, she has deep concerns about environmental issues and then has been drawing pictures related to her ecological issues from the beginning of her debut and is making this known through her exhibitions. Above all, she's been involved in the EcoArt Project, a group of artists working on the environmental movement, trying to show how artists should do it to protect our nature.

I currently live in Brownsville Texas near the Mexico border. Brownsville is ideal for me because of the warm weather and sunny days, it is also a very safe and friendly place. While here I have painted landscapes to try to introduce viewers to an under appreciated part of the United States. My work is a documentation of my life. Since I like to travel, many of my works depict places I’ve visited throughout the world. I have paintings of my adventures in Italy and Spain for example. I also paint my day to day life; I paint friends, family, etc. All my paintings have a certain commonality; they focus on the moments between moments, in other words, not the dramatic moments but the quite introspective moments. All my works have a heavy focus on color and emotion as well; I wish to communicate who I am through color.

I am both by birth and at heart a fourth generation Californian and San Francisco Bay Area native. For the better part of eight decades my camera and I have been witnesses to its history and more recent travails. On my eighth birthday, my grandfather presented me with a little Kodak camera; I believe it was called a Brownie. One of my first photos was of Toby, our family dog. My parents liked the image so much they had it enlarged. That small act of encouragement, made so many years ago, nourished my confidence in both valuing and working with a camera. As I grew up in San Rafael and mid-20th century California, I carried my camera with me as I hiked through the open range land that was once the home of the Miwok people, later California cattle ranchers and, today, sprawling homogeneous suburbs. Through the camera's lens, I tried to capture the beauty of those softly rolling, sunburned hills of my native state. Later, in contrast to the natural world of the California countryside, nearly a decade of field assignments with the United Nations resulted in a collection of photographs ranging from Arakanese fishing villages and Mauritanian desert dunes to Ghana's Aburi hill country and the black sand beaches of the Samoan islands. I believe my experience abroad helped form my vision, and ultimately photographic images, of how I perceive the world, its habitat, and the diverse cultures it encompasses. Now, much later in life I find myself devoted to telling the brutal story of an environment under siege -- a fast deteriorating natural environment assaulted by a burgeoning population and its handmaiden, climate change. With my camera I attempt to capture the remnant images of what was the Golden State as I once saw it and, somewhat sadly and regretfully, as I see it today.

He paints what he enjoys in life or whatever excites the artist inside him. Bryan continues to expand his perspectives with oil painting, photography and other digital mediums. Originally, from Beech Grove, IN a suburb of Indianapolis. Since 2015 he and his family have lived in Terre Haute, IN. Bryan’s Great Grandmother was an artist. She encouraged and taught his mother to paint and after retirement, his Grandfather took up oil painting completing three generations. For ten years, his mother had been encouraging Bryan to carry on an artist legacy as family tradition. During a holiday discussion in December of 2012, his mother talked him into giving painting a try and after watching a couple of Bob Ross Joy of Painting episodes he sat down to paint his first piece in January 2013. Hundreds of pieces later, you could say the rest is history… Bryan paints what he joys in life. It might be from pop culture or from observing interesting things around him, but it definitely comes from life experiences. It has originated in music, pop culture and from travel, especially his love for the National Parks. “I’ve learned something new from every painting I have ever done.” “As I get older, I find the artist in me has come to the forefront, expanding the simple things I always did into pieces of art. In the real world, I am very process and detail oriented. When it comes to being creative, I look beyond the how to do it and enjoy the process of just letting the brush work its magic.” He likes to call his art style, “Bryanism”. Beyond oil painting, he continues to expand his perspectives and painting techniques, photography and other digital art concepts. In today’s tech-oriented world he continues to be influenced by phone photo applications and learning other digital platforms. Besides his involvement with Creative Action Network, his work can be found on displayed in Terre Haute at the ArtsIlliana Gallery where he was Gallery Committee Chair and on the Board of Directors from 2017-2019. He has become a regular contributor to INK Magazine at Rose-Hulman, The Gallery @ Clabber Girl Museum, River City Artist Association, Link Art Gallery (Paris, IL) Garfield Park Arts Center (Indianapolis, IN) &CEARTS.org (Noblesville, IN). In 2021, Bryan is focusing on expanding his art in new and exciting directions wherever this might take him in the promotion of all forms of art. He was excited to be featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley having two sun art pieces chosen four different times, December Beach (11/8/20& 7/18/21) and Sunset Sea (12/6/20 & 1/10/21). In July, his digit rock themed piece, ‘Chicago – Saturday In the Park’, received an Award of Distinction at the Flagler County Art League show, ‘On a High Note’ and “Rocky Mountain Sunset’, received Honorable Mention at the Annual Midwest Photography Exhibit at LinkArt Gallery in Paris, IL. His solo show ‘Ain’t That America (Somethin’ to See)’will debut this November- December 2021 at the Garfield Park Arts Center.

Alaina Bryan

Alaina Bryan is an emerging artist specializing in polymer clay and multimedia recycled artworks. A native of Seattle, WA, Alaina finds inspiration in the random patterns of nature and bright colors of human society. She has been an artist since childhood, participating in numerous art classes and local art opportunities, but her style was mainly influenced by her time at university in New Orleans, where she often used abandoned surfaces and found objects as her canvases. In 2019, while studying abroad in Paris, she suffered a traumatic brain injury which left her incapable of most activities- thus she spent all day, everyday, for nearly 6 months, simply creating art. During this recovery, and subsequent rewiring of her brain, she stumbled upon an intriguing new art technique which now constitutes the bulk of her portfolio: claynting. Claynting, a term she coined, is painting with clay, or the application of colored polymer clay to glass surfaces. Now fully recovered, Alaina continues to pursue her love of transforming found objects by creating intriguing works of clay on recycled windows and picture frames. Like her multimedia works, her life is taking shape as a multimedia entrepreneur, one for whom art is a pillar, alongside music and other creative pursuits. In all her work, she is a strong advocate for accessibility and environmental responsibility.

Kristy Chettle

Kristy has been inspired by both art and nature since she was young. Her parents had a strong influence over her creative endeavors and her attachment to the earth. Her family spent their free time immersed in nature, between the Pacific coast and the mountains where she observed the delicate relationship humankind has with nature. This is where she began to sketch and draw. Kristy took classes in drawing, painting and sculpture while on her way to a degree in graphic design from California Polytechnic University. After graduating in 1992, she studied at a small art school in Lucca Italy, where she found her love for painting in oil and a blossoming interest in abstract art and the freedom it presented her. For many years Kristy operated her own graphic design studio and focused on family, but was finally called back to painting when commissioned to create some abstract works in 2002. For years thereafter she made time to paint in her small studio and continued to develop her skills as an artist. Over the years, she has incorporated a tactile quality to her abstracts by painting and scraping in multiple layers. She sometimes will incorporate found objects into her work to add depth and texture, even occasionally using recycled wood as her canvas. Her expressionistic style represents nature and the power of life and the world that surrounds us. In recent years, Kristy’s style has changed motivated by her love for the environment. No longer using brushes which need thorough washing, she uses only her hands and an occasional pallet knife or saw blade to spread her paint–with great success in maintaining the Impasto effect that adds depth and richness to her work. Additionally, many of Kristy’s paintings are untitled in order to allow the viewer to have their own personal experience. Her works have been on display in numerous shows as well as on-line and in-person galleries.

Charlie Costello

Photographer, Charlie Costello see's travel as his window to the world. Observing other cultures, other people and other ways of life is not only refreshing, but is a good reminder that we are all connected. Despite the uniqueness of each culture, there are universal things that bond us all, be it the passion of sports, music to brighten a village square or the intense colors, taste and smells of a farmers market. In early 2022, "Hanging out in Burma: Laundry Lines and Democracy Hanging in the Balance" will be available to highlight the perseverance and beauty of the people and the cultures and landscapes of Burma. Charlie says, "Each person’s perspective is unique and special. It’s that distinctiveness that helps me appreciate things at home and when I travel. I can see the beauty in the decaying colors of a doorway in Beijing, China, the relationship of a goat with child in the doorway of a home in Baktapour, Nepal, the toothless smile of a hill tribe women in Northern Thailand or the colors, shapes and taste of an heirloom tomato grown in my own garden."I reveled in every moment spent in Burma with hope for the warm people and the country on the verge of democracy. But the struggles have only gotten worse as military coups, fascism and the climate emergency has again brought the realization that everything is connected, from the microbes in our soils to the air we breath. In my photographs, I hope you can see a world full of hope with the richness of the colors, landscapes and people of our world. Minga-laba - loosely translated as – “It is a blessing”

Katie Dahl Digital Arts, Painting

An artwork begins with an emotion, whatever the emotion is makes no difference. Born in Long Beach, CA, Katie finds inspiration within all things. She has been an artist since she was a child, first catching a glimpse of how to draw from an older woman who would draw pictures of people in church during services. She later went to California College of the Arts and Cal State University of Long Beach. She has studied art abroad in Italy and later traveled around Europe and the United States. Her work today revolves around dreams, memories, randomness, daily encounters with nature, and traveling. Katie’s landscapes are painted in an impressionistic style with texture and color as the main focus. It is more about the feeling of the painting rather than the actual content. Her dreamscapes are painted in a more surrealistic type of style, more intimate. Her photography and digital collage are carefully selected and altered (if need be) to the way she feels they should look compositionally and emotionally. She works primarily in oil paint but will venture off into acrylic, gouache and the digital world. An art teacher by day, an artist by night, and a traveler by weekend together creates the wholeness of a person that loves to paint.

Sammi Dougherty

Sammi Dougherty’s collection of work takes deep inquiry into mathematical patterns in nature and their relationship to matter sonically; along with the involuntary occurring mental effects in viewers. Dougherty’s research explores the combined findings of Benoit Mandelbrot and Physicist Richard Taylor, and the evidence of this 'subliminal' visual language of fractal patterns. Her continued studies involve immersive investigations into the complexity of fractal layers naturally occurring on earth and subject's reactions, within the microcosm and to the macrocosmic structures. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions at The Modern Visual Arts Gallery (Bethlehem, PA), The Academy Center of the Arts, (Lynchburg, VA), The Toledo Art Museum (Toledo, OH), The Miller Gallery (Blacksburg, VA), The Floyd Center of the Arts (Floyd, VA). She has also been invited to several juried international publications including the Canadian based Observica Art Magazine, and awarded a variety of honors including awards of merit and distinction, Artist of the Year (Sylvania, OH), and an award of Recognition of Excellence from US Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, for contribution to the city of Toledo, OH. A considerable amount of Dougherty’s work is permanently installed in the form of murals or ‘beautification’ wraps, scattered throughout the downtown district of Toledo, OH and ranging to Traverse, MI. Dougherty’s teaching utilizes motivational strategies to engage students willingness, confidence, and curiosity into their own potentials. She has taught Arts Foundations at Radford University (2018-2020), she also has experience instructing Advanced Watercolor, Chalk Pastels, Murals, Painting, Drawing and Advanced Drawing at the collegiate level. Currently, Dougherty is teaching private art lessons at all levels of learning. Her philosophy of expressive art for mental health, and mechanical skill building through observation, provides a successful timeline of learning and refinement of artistic knowledge while strengthening kinesthetic responses; motivating a well-rounded evolution of artistry.

Wayne Ensrud

Wayne Ensrud was born in Minnesota where local artists in his hometown inspired and encouraged him to pursue the study of art. He enrolled at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where his teachers included Oskar Kokoschka, Vaclav Vytlacil, Buckminster Fuller, Ben Shahn, Jacques Lipchitz and Josef Albers. Most importantly and life-changing, he met the Austrian painter, Oskar Kokoschka with whom he felt a strong kinship. Their relationship was a magical one where they both shared the idea of complete integrity to their art and the unwillingness to allow modern artistic fashion to alter their beliefs that art should be an expression of the spirit of love, beauty and the divinity inherent in a person’s soul. They shared a life-long friendship bound by the deepest respect. After graduation, Ensrud became the youngest Art Director of Motion Pictures and Television for the University of California at Berkeley. During this time, he was also a juror on the San Francisco International Film Festival and Art Director for KQED in San Francisco where he animated and designed the award-winning IBM series The Computer and the Mind of Man. Ensrud’s groundbreaking designs brought him to the attention of the major television networks who invited him to New York City where he was Art Director of programs for ABC, CBS and NBC. He was then appointed Executive Art Director of PBS-TV Channel 13 in New York City where he instituted innovative approaches to programming, among them the original ‘Live at Lincoln Center’ series and the opera series in collaboration with producer Jac Venza. Ensrud designed and animated the Gemini Space Programs for worldwide viewing on ABCTV. These achievements at an early age left Ensrud dissatisfied and he felt compelled to seek out guidance from Oskar Kokoschka by traveling to his home in Switzerland, which then developed into more than 25 years of a guru-disciple relationship.

Jeffrey Fletcher

Jeffrey Fletcher is a San Antonio based digital photographer specializing in urban, landscape and contemporary imagery. Born on February 18th, 1966, he spent his early years living throughout the United States as one of four children of Tyrone and Doris Fletcher. His father, an Army officer who fought in the Viet Nam War, was an avid photographer. Armed with his Pentax K1000 35mm camera, he would frequently send home images of life in Viet Nam. These photos would spark Fletcher’s early interest in photography and travel. After high school, Fletcher attended Florida A&M University, studying Broadcast Journalism. Although he excelled academically, he knew in his heart that the life of a journalist was not the career he wanted to pursue. After graduating, Fletcher followed in the footsteps of his father, joining the Army and spending the next 30 years in assignments that afforded him the opportunity to travel across the globe. Fletcher settled in San Antonio in 2016, and is pursuing his BFA in Digital Photography from the Art Institute in San Antonio. He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the Texas Photographic Society.

Richard Heiens Painting

Dr. Heiens is an accomplished international artist whose colorful abstract expressionist works never fail to solicit an emotional reaction from the viewer. Using color intensity and simplicity of composition, his works make a big impact without crowding the canvas. His paintings have a wonderful balance and handling of the acrylics and are intended to catch the eye of the beholder with their colors and shapes which tell a story. His paintings have a balance of color composition warm/cold/neutral with a mix of different round and edged components. There are clear boundaries filled with soft shifting nuances. He uses layering of the paints to create the richness in the colors with light and darks being well placed. He picked up gallery presentation in Texas and London after selling his works on Instagram.

Andie Jairam

My name is Andie Jairam and I'm a professional artist from Atlanta, Georgia. I began my art career are Morehouse College where I obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During my tenure at Morehouse College, I fell in love with the art of printmaking and drawing. I took these passions to New York and honed my art skills. With the influences of a completely new environment, skilled professors, and a vast range of materials I was able to graduate with a Masters in Fine Arts from University at Buffalo. It was at the University at Buffalo that I was able to research Afro-futurism, enabling me to express this art through mural and prints. Under my tutelage in Buffalo, I was able to refine my keen eye for detail and create new work. Leveraging my knowledge of the African diaspora, I have taught youths and adults the transformative power of art. In parallel, I have applied to shows, residencies, and new art collaborations spreading awareness across the world.

Gregory Kessler

Educated through architecture, Kessler utilizes his knowledge of structure, form, composition, color, and spatial dimension in creating his work. Kessler’s work is inspired from his travels, while also being derived from the immediacy of the local environment. He believes that often the most amazing and wonderful subjects reside directly in front of us. For Kessler, the pencil epitomizes the natural linkages between paper, fingers, arm and mind. His work is derived through utilizing varying pressure on the pencil while interacting with the texture of the paper. Kessler refers to this as “listening” to the paper. As an educator, Kessler works to help his students understand the importance of drawing as an expressive means of conveying ideas. Kessler is a professor at Washington State University where he teaches architecture. His courses focus on incorporating the above values and works to guide his students to develop a love for drawing.

Ekaterina Kouznetsova was born in the Siberian mountains of the Altai region of Kazakhstan and lived in Russia until the age of seven. The next 20 years were formed living on the other side, and other end, of the world in Argentina. Having studied linguistics and translation at IES en Lenguas Vivas in Buenos Aires, an international move to the prolific art scene of the United States changed her direction. As a self-taught painter, the styles and techniques of the old masters inspire Ekaterina’s art. Her forte is in the fine details she brings to life with oils, playing with light and a delicate palette of colors. Naturally, her art has been shaped by the myriad landscapes and cityscapes around the globe. While many different cultures, peoples, architecture always stir Ekaterina’s soul, she also finds a certain peace in coming back to her roots. Ekaterina’s works can be found at Red Door Gallery in North Little Rock. Accolades include Judges Choice for her work “Coffee in Amsterdam” at the 2020 Water & Seascape Competition, selection in Maryland Federation of Art’s Strokes of Genius show in 2020, bronze award for “Berry Picking” at the 2021 Shades of Green Competition, among many more. Bogdan Kravchenko

Bo Kravchenko got his Master’s degree in Book Graphics at Kyiv State Academy of Arts and started painting in 2010 after a long and successful career in creative advertising. His both parents were artists, and art was the focus at home. After graduation, Bogdan published sixteen books with his book illustrations, and then for many years worked at creative agencies in Europe until he found himself on the East coast of Florida. Under the impression of its beauty, he felt the pull to return to painting and photography. Having spent a life collaborating with galleries, artists, and designers, he had a clear idea of what he wanted to work on. Soon he was able to work full-time as a painter, selling his artworks through festivals and online art galleries, participating in solo and group exhibitions. Today, Bogdan sells his paintings to collectors all over the world and exhibits extensively. After a decade of painting his favorite landscape theme, he has gained confidence and technical skills. Today, he tends to work on a larger scale and abstractly, with a focus on light, textures, and how the landscape works in an abstract context.

Lisa Mee

Lisa Mee grew up in Harrington Park, a small suburban New Jersey town north of New York City. Her Koreanborn mother, an architect, and her Irish-American father, a former ballet student and actor turned chiropractor were both passionate about art and collecting. They cultivated her art appreciation by frequently taking her to museums, art fairs and galleries from the time she was a small child. These early outings fostered in her a profound wonder of the mysterious creation of art, spanning the centuries from various cultures world-wide. During schooling, she devoted time to her artistic creations. She learned the basics of drawing, painting and printmaking from her early education into college. At Fordham University, she decided to pursue a degree in political science. Shortly after entering the university, she met her husband-to-be, the artist, Wayne Ensrud, who is the only living protégée of the Expressionist Austrian artist, Oskar Kokoschka, a student of Gustav Klimt. After in-depth exploration of ‘plein-air’ drawing and painting techniques, her palette became enlarged by fabric, paper and photo collage elements as well as metallic paint, opening up new creative possibilities. Her collage paintings integrate papers, fabrics and metals by careful sorting, cutting and assembling. With these materials, they are recycled into works of art. Her purpose is to combine mundane scraps to create a harmonic, intense coherence of all the parts. Inspired by florals, plant-based life and various formations found in the natural environment as well as stone and wood, she creates a cohesion of these natural forms to capture the elusive qualities of nature by using recycled materials in an aesthetic manner. Currently, she integrates metallic paints and pieces to create luminous surface reflections. By using spatial differentiations, she fuses a playful order of shapes and forms. It’s a sustainable artform using various elements to convey a stained-glass effect on canvas.

Richard Mittelstadt

Richard has always been interested in mark making. Some of his first art making experiences in elementary school were observational and mechanical drawings for classroom projects or extra credit. He especially enjoyed mechanical drawing—anything to do with precision and accuracy that allowed his imagination to soar. When his older sister gave him a paint-by-number set, he remembers carefully painting right up to the lines— never once going over the edges!! The effect gave his work a look of a Cezanne painting with tiny canvas spaces showing between the colors. Perhaps it was that attention to detail or perfectionism that attributed to his understanding of mechanical perspective back in his fourth grade class—a skill not over looked by his instructor who proudly displayed his drawings in the school hallway. Looking back to Richard’s initial mark-making years, he wishes someone could have pointed out those aptitudes to him at an early age. It most likely would have eased his anxiety that he felt regarding his artistic abilities since he always felt that he needed a strong aptitude in imagination to be considered an artist. His strengths were, and continue to be, making observational and mechanical art forms. Precision, accuracy, and craftsmanship are still his calling cards as he uses those aptitudes in remodeling his home or making jewelry with sapphires that his wife and he have mined in Montana. Over the years Richard has experimented with a variety of materials such as colored pencil, chalks, markers, etc. in combination with watercolor and acrylic paints. During the summers between his teaching assignments, his interests eventually turned to drawing, watercolor landscape painting, and landscape photography. Now that he is retired from 38 years of teaching art education, he is able to explore the realm of abstract and nonobjective acrylic painting.

Gregory Quick

My name is Gregory Quick. As an artist, I go by "Gee Que". I am a fine artist, who was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in Greenville, MS. I would say the city that raised me is the city that made me. I learned many valuable lessons about accepting who you are and relishing in it, by growing up in Greenville. I try to create artwork that reflects self acceptance and being loud about who you are, in this world. I am a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Art with a minor in Graphic Design. Currently, I work as an independent artist, creating original pieces, as well as commissioned custom pieces, for clients across the United States. I’ve recently launched my website, where I sell my artwork, along with my own custom clothing brand, titled “Be More Than Just”. This brand was created to encourage everyone to pursue everything they’ve ever dreamed of and never box themselves into being “just” one thing. I encourage everyone to be the person you are, in your wildest dreams.

Juan Restrepo

Born in Medellin, Colombia, Juan Restrepo was first inspired to pursue art while watching his mother paint in her studio. He saw the joy and calmness that it brought her when she was in the process of creating art, and later remembered that feeling when he himself is in need of some peace. At the age of five, Juan moved to the United States with his mother and brother. It wasn’t long before he began to lose himself in his sketchbooks. Later, he and his mother settled in Orlando, Fl., while his brother moved back to Colombia with their father. After graduating from High School, Juan joined the National Guard and attended community college acquiring his Associate’s in Advertising and Graphic Design from Southwestern Community College. After working as a designer for a few years, Juan continued his education and finished his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Appalachian State University. Today, Juan’s work has evolved and switches between Impressionist portraits and Abstract illustrations using pen and ink in a pointillism technique. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of topics, from our interconnectedness to our relationship with time and space. With his Impressionist drawings, Juan encourages the viewer to remember that we are a part of this world, not above it, through the beauty of its inhabitants. With his Abstract illustrations, he explores 3D space in a 2D surface, using lines and circles to draw the viewer into a perceived larger space.

Anna Samsonova

I have never seen the meaning just in painting (such as still-life paintings or landscape). I always need to see the purpose and the idea, it isn't enough for me just to catch the spirit. That is why after finishing my study I started to work in an advertising field with graphic design turning words into images. Today I have chosen the way of intellectual art (I am making visual paradoxes, puzzle pictures, in which different images and even stories are concealed). It is important for me, on the one hand, to show different human aspects, on the other hand, to show my own attitude to them, my emotions and mood. An interesting point in my pictures is that the more you look at them the more details you see and the more you imagine. That is Modern Art for me.

Hannah Shipley is a North Carolina based painter who works primarily with acrylics as well as a range of media. She was introduced to painting at a young age, with a focus on value and the human figure. Since then, Shipley’s style has evolved to abstractly depict the figure with attention to values and colors. Currently, her work is moving towards a looser, abstract technique to represent themes of empathy through body language and actions, and feelings of uncertainty. Over the years, Shipley has completed commissioned work, and has been exhibited both locally and regionally. She has earned a BFA with a concentration in painting from Appalachian State University.

Bhaswati Sinha

Bhaswati is an artist who expresses her feelings and emotions through glow or light in her paintings which she observes in the realistic world. Bhaswati originates from a place where the love of nature comes in-built in every person. Her father was a sculptor. Bhaswati was influenced by warmth of glowing light surrounded by cool dark background. Her paintings represent spiritual balance of light versus dark and its interdependencies. She believes that every soul is a light that grounds everyone by illuminating the path of knowledge and righteousness. Light or glow always provides a positive energy and hope despite being surrounded by darkness of the universe. Bhaswati took an intensive art mastery program studying old master skills and techniques in Milan Art Institute, AZ, USA, possesses a strong sense of creating figurative artistry and forward-thinking that is consistently displayed across all art pieces. All her artwork is based on light/glow and has a strong chiaroscuro style with a definite storyline/message to believe in yourself. Bhaswati have built her expertise on mixed media which gives her the artistic freedom to experiment with her paintings. She had used an inner layer of collage and texture to bring a mystery to the atmosphere, another layer of acrylic paint to create the foundation of the painting and final layer of oil to bring the balance between brightness of glowing light and darkness of the surrounding. Michael Skura

Working primarily with blown glass and video projection, Michael Skura’s work explores materials and technologies with minds of their own and celebrates conventional defects as opportunities for expression of the essence of materials. Instead of fighting the many natural inclinations which are often seen by artisans as imperfections, Skura has been more interested in “coaching” glass to assert itself through distortions, bubbles, debris, stress marks and chemical reactions. Lighting phenomena and interactive technology are an integral part of his work. In many cases the light itself becomes the central artwork in its own right. His work combines moments of “simple magic” such as headlights reflecting off bent chrome car bumpers with more sophisticated effects generated using motion sensors, 3D video mapping and directionally reflective surfaces. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Michael Skura’s Studio has been in the Los Angeles area since 2002.

Liana Stadelmann

Ever since I could pick up a crayon I have been drawing. This passion continued all throughout my childhood - I remember being in my school classes scribbling away like crazy onto the margins of my notebook! During the same time in my young childhood I became obsessed with art I had another obsession that has also continued with me into adulthood, and that is my love of fantasy - mermaids in particular. I have been drawing on and off all throughout my life, but only until about 3 years ago I discovered watercolor. It honestly hit me out of nowhere my desire to learn and use them, so I went out and bought my first set of the cheapest paints and brushes and quickly went to work. Immediately I fell in love and continued to dabble with different types of subject matter - mainly focusing on nature and animals. It wasn’t until about 2 years ago I came up with what is now my businesses’ main theme - my bunny mermaid hybrids! Only recently have I started branching out and I now have started painting other mythical creature hybrids (i.e. cats with mermaid tails, bunnies with dragon wings, etc.!) I am completely self taught - the only art classes I have ever taken were required ones during my childhood in school. I want people to feel happy when they see my art. I like my paintings to be very colorful, whimsical and fun - I feel these adjectives describe my personality and I want that expressed through my artwork. As I am still young and new to my business, I am beyond excited to see where my imagination takes me with future paintings and all the amazing people I will meet along my journey!

Nina Temple

Nina Temple was born in Philadelphia, PA into an artistic family. Her mother was a child prodigy violinist and her father, a composer. Early exposure to all facets of the arts included spending hours inside museums and galleries, and attending recitals and concerts that would influence Nina for the rest of her life. She studied painting and sculpture at the University of Southern Mississippi, attending master classes with Elaine de Kooning, and was one of thirty-two undergraduates chosen nationwide to study in Cortona, Italy, with the University of Georgia. In the ’90s her paintings were shown extensively in West Berlin, Germany. Her passion for color and design led her to open Nina Temple Design - graphic and web design studios in Monterey, CA, and Annapolis, MD. When Nina decided it was time to close her commercial studio doors, she went back to what she loves most the fine arts. Since then, her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the US as well as in art fairs and museums. She shows in group collaborations, gives artist talks, and is involved in outreach programs that bring the arts to underserved communities. Her work is included in many private, public and corporate collections. She recently partnered with her sister Pia Z. Ehrhardt to publish their first book, NOW WE ARE SIXTY, which pairs Pia's short stories with Nina's inks on paper. This led to the sisters forming a publishing company, Sorella Press, and the publication of more collaborative books.

Peter Ver Brugge Painting

I have always been the creative person. I remember family trips to my aunt's house in Vermont where she owns a pottery studio in creating sculptures of anything that came to mind, one year was a dragon another year a Thanksgiving feast. These sculptures are never more than 10 inches across so a lot of fine detail work which always amused my mom because I have large hands. In middle school I started playing the upright bass and that remained a large part of my life until many years later. I played in symphonies, jazz bands, ensembles, and ended my music career in a rock band The Breaktone. I was fortunate enough play a plethora of venues from small restaurants to the largest stage, Carnegie Hall. In college I studied mechanical engineering but did not continue with my music minor which I stopped in sophomore year. The balance of technical and artistic came to a head when I had to decide between continuing with The Breaktone or pursuing engineering as a career. I ended up taking a job in Tulsa OK in 2013 which was the first time I left my hometown of Albuquerque NM. Over the years of my engineering career, most of the time was spent in what I view is the American dilemma. We work because we think we have to and we stay in jobs that we don't really like in order to buy the things we don't really want to save face for people we don't really care about. I still debate with myself whether I would enjoy working at a different company where I agreed more with the values of the company and the final product that was being created or if a “nontraditional” lifestyle is more what I desire. I started painting in 2014 when my then wife bought me an easel and some paints because I had been talking about jumping over to painting as my creative outlet. I started with random shapes and forms without much intentionality behind the meaning of the brush strokes.
