Introduction
Independant® The idea of using ceiling mounts that can be easily swiveled in place to have medical equipment or gases readily available for patient treatment or care has long proved to be a complete success. This is not surprising in light of the benefits: flexible positioning and optimal space utilization in the OR or ICU are obvious advantages, but – no less important – hygiene and safety requirements must be satisfied as well. Yet there is still more to this concept: clear assignment of the various units, elimination of cable clutter and, above all, the unrestricted movement of all components in the space around the place of use.
KLS Martin “pendants” are used in surgery, endoscopy, anesthesia, intensive care or simply as monitor supports. For all these purposes, we offer perfect, customized solutions across a wide load range – from 30 to almost 1,000 kg.
The new generation of Independant® ceiling mounts features a completely novel service head. The modular design of electrical and gas modules, trays/platforms, drawers and infusion rails means superior user-friendliness, facilitating the system’s use in the operating room or intensive care unit.

Gas module
The base represents the supporting basic element. It is available in five different length configurations. Gas, power supply and data modules are available for lateral installation. They can be optionally positioned more to the front or the back for increased clarity and ease of use. For each module, we took care to ensure a high integration density of gas outlets, power outlets and manometers. Besides, our focus was on a space- and weight-saving arrangement of all components. The resulting volume reduction means considerably more freedom of movement around the workplace. All modules can be fitted to either side of the base at the customer’s option. Thus, user preferences can be taken into consideration right at the planning stage.
Multifunction rack
The multifunction rack, which is available in three different lengths, enables you to install various components for customized configuration. Trays and drawers can be infinitely adjusted along their vertical support and can be seamlessly adapted to the dimensions of the terminal units for which they are intended. This again contributes to superior workplace economy and ergonomics. The rack can even be fitted with trays both at the front and rear for optimized space utilization and balanced load distribution. In a nutshell, the rack can be used for platform trays, drawers, flat-screen monitor supports and infusion modules.

Trays are available in different designs and widths, with buttons for arm control and optional drawers underneath. The handles are made of soft and hard plastic, thus providing integrated impact protection. Depending on their intended use and the space available, trays and drawers can be ergonomically installed either at the front or the rear. Integrated cable storage compartments facilitate cable management, keeping excess cable lengths out of the way. These storage spaces are closed off by a rubber sealing lip to ensure that hygiene requirements are met as well.
The infusion modules are also available in various designs and with hooks for up to four infusion bottles. They can be easily fitted – or even retrofitted – to the multifunction rack.
Extensions
Independant速 There are a number of highly useful add-ons with which you can round off your versatile equipment platform.
Flat panel monitor support The TFT support is installed on the multifunction rack. Height-adjustable, gas-pressurized spring arms plus an arm whose height can be conveniently fixed ensure perfect integration into your workplace configuration.
Keyboard and typing support This swivel support meets all the ergonomic requirements associated with an OR workplace, thus neatly rounding off an impressive range of options.
SwingoM6 equipment trolley During operations, it is often necessary to use equipment trolleys with medical devices required in addition to the units installed on the platforms of the ceiling-mounted pendant systems. The SwingoM6 equipment trolley is ideal for these purposes, not least because it features a patented locking mechanism that allows fast and easy docking to the multifunction rack. The trolley is available in different designs, with an operating handle for convenient disconnection of the trolley from the rack after use.

The Suspension Systems With the exception of the Independant® 30 variant, the redesigned service head can be used in conjunction with the following suspension systems:
Independant® 30
Small monitor or surgical suspension system, either for wall mounting or ceiling mounting in combination with a marLux® operating light. Max. loading capacity (useful load): 25 kg (e.g. one CRT monitor or one HF unit). Alternatively, the pendant system can be fitted with a power supply box (electrobox).
Independant® 100
Swivel ceiling mount, either with height-adjustable spring arm or with motor arm offering a maximum load-carrying capacity of 120 kg. Safe positioning guaranteed by pneumatic brakes.
Independant® 200
Motorized swivel ceiling mount for a total load of up to 200 kg. Maximum useful load to be added: 90 kg. Large cable ducts for medical gases, electrical cables and data lines.
Independant® 300
Universal heavy-duty suspension system for surgery, endoscopy, anesthesia and intensive care. Optionally available with single or tandem extension arm offering a large swiveling range. Pneumatic brakes ensure high position fidelity.
Independant® 500
Heavy-duty suspension arm system for very high useful loads, with a total load-carrying capacity of nearly 1,000 kg.

Use of VDE symbol permitted under mark license. EC conformity Both the suspension arm system and the service heads comply with the provisions stipulated in the EU Directives 93/42/EEC (MDD) and 89/336/EEC (EMC Directive). The suspension arm system is certified only for connection of the following appliances: CE-marked KLS Martin service heads with a length of 413, 600 and 1025 mm.
The natural or legal person connecting the above devices to the KLS Martin suspension arm system in order to place them on the market as a (total) system is required to draw up a declaration as specified in Article 12 of the EU Directive 93/42/EEC (MDD). The connection of other appliances requires a separate conformity assessment, as specified in the MDD. Mounting the above devices to a suspension arm system other than those specified above requires Gebrüder Martin’s prior consent. A separate conformity assessment is required in any such case. Combination with other medical devices The suspension arm system is intended for supporting terminal equipment made by other manufacturers.
