Barren Wasteland outlines a societal reaction to the over exposed daily routine our lives have become. With an overload and dependency on technology, the simple activities in life have been replaced with computer screens, cell phones and I-pads, this trends is a reaction to the technological era and sees society â&#x20AC;&#x153;check outâ&#x20AC;? from the daily exposure and vulnerability left behind by technology. With the end of the world being nigh society as a whole are searching for deeper meanings, whether it be within ancient secret societies such as the illuminati or with the search for outer worldly creators through items such as the Mars rover Curiosity. The very essence of our lives are changing and at a rapid rate as we start to look out side of our comfort zone and venture into the unknown. Within this trend various interpretations branch out namely, The Devil is in the Details, Collision Course, Hidden Inner and Bare Essentials. Each of these sub themes hone in on certain directions that art, culture and design are gravitating towards. Key words: Societal reaction, denouncing technology, rebellion 3 Â

The trend further emerges within a time of a uncertain future due to the ever increasing natural disasters, war and poverty.

This trend is centered around items that “protect” the body and emerges within a postpunk era. The armored glove, made, popular by Daphnie Guinness, is a centralized piece within this movement.

The trend collision course is based on the macro trend of oscillation and the concept of fussing opposing elements. this trend explores the delicate relationship between contrast differences in search for a modern day beauty. this is seen through intertwining differing elements such as the hard and soft, rough and smooth, combining fragile elegance with blunt structures. it is though the fusion of these contradictory elements than the true impact of beauty can be heightened (WGSN,2012)
