JULY NEWSLETTER

NYDKC DIVISION 1

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LTG Hi Division 1 Stingrays! My name is Bianca Bossey and I am so excited to be your new Lieutenant Governor. Here's a bit about me: I am a rising sophomore at Riverhead High School, I live in Aquebogue, and I love ramen. I have so much hope for our seven clubs in the division and I know we can do amazing things. I have a few goals for our division, 2,000 service hours and $5,000 in total fundraising. I know we can reach these goals, so let's get moving! Your 2019-2020 Lieutenant Governor

THE STINGRAY REPORT

A SERVICE SPOTLIGHT On June 8th, Riverhead Key Club decided to throw our own senior prom, but for a whole different type of senior. We went to the Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and threw a prom for the patients there. We came up with a theme (Old Hollywood) and put up decorations around their dining hall. The hall was transformed and we then invited the patients to come down the red carpet to be photographed. As each patient came in we gave them a rose (donated by a local farm) and we got them ready to dance. The live musician played music— my favorite song that he played was Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. A Prom King and Prom Queen were crowned by the workers at the Center and we danced all night with the patients. It was so much fun and a great last service project for my career as a Key Clubber!

NEWS FROM THE NORTH

GOVERNOR'S UPDATE My name is Camille Brock and I am beyond excited to serve as your 2019-2020 District Governor. I’m currently in my junior year at Candor High School of Division 20. I served as their Lieutenant Governor for the 2018-2019 service year, and that’s what really inspired me to continue my journey into Key Club. Outside of Key Club and school work, you can find me in a few places. I’ll either be in the 6:1:1 classroom lending a helping hand, playing my saxophone or singing in the music rooms, getting coffee with my mom or friends, or watching Netflix and eating hot cheetos.

GOVERNOR'S UPDATE In my term this year, I would like to focus on communication throughout the district and with other branches of the Kiwanis Family. I would like to increase our social media presence, utilize videos for our updates, and reach out to other branches of the Kiwanis Family more than we might’ve in the past. I’m so excited for the rest of this year with all of you and I’m really looking forward to everything we’re going to accomplish. Let’s make this year NYDKC’s year! Yours in service, Camille Brock

JULY BULLETIN Our Governor, Camille Brock, released her July Bulletin. Every month she releases updates on her work, the district's work, and highlights a club in the Winner's Circle.

NEW YORK MINUTE

Every month, our Governor puts out a New York minute, a video that details updates on anything spanning from endorsed projects to goals set by our District Board. These videos might not technically be a minute long, but it is still 100% worth your time!

DISTRICT PROJECT I am happy to announce this year's District Project is Project Semicolon! Thank you all for voting! If you do not know about this organization, Project Semicolon is dedicated to the prevention of suicide. Their work is based on the belief that suicide is completely preventable and by raising public awareness and educationg communities, they can save lives.

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT Our District Governor Camille Brock announced this year's Governor's Project in April. This year's project is the New York Chapter of Special Olympics, which is an inclusive organization for children with intellectual disabilities. This organization provides the children with a competitive platform to build character, make friends, and develop determination.

DISTRICT GOALS

During out first board meeting, the District Board set goals for all of New York. This year we want to rack up 120,000 hours in service and $200,000 in total fundraising. It's our job to help contribute, so let's start right now! In addition to the total fundraising goal, the District Board has set goals for the District and Governor's Project ($15,000) and for the Endorsed Projects ($3,500)!

ENDORSED PROJECT Besides the Governor's Project and the District Project, the New York District Key Club endorses certain projects year after year. This month I want to highlight the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center. One of its locations is quite close to home at Stony Brook Hospital.

THE INDY SCOOP

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION Every year, Key Clubbers from across the world meet in a city to celebrate the end of a service year and elect new international officers. This year we went to Baltimore, the Charm City, to do these things! I had so much fun meeting my peers and making friends along the way and I've learned so much! If anyone would like me to tell them about my experience, please do not hesitate to ask!

INTERNATIONAL PARTNER Key Club International supports certain organizations that embody the 4 core values. In 2019, 663 million people lack access to clean, safe drinking water and every 21 seconds a child dies from a water related disease. The Thirst Project is dedicated to ending the global water crisis and we are here to help! It's because of the Thirst Project that I got to meet Laura Marano at the International Convention!!
