C ONC EPT Located in the middle of an urban landscape in South Jakarta, IA House is a house within an exclusive residential area. The owner wanted the house to have the feeling of being surrounded by nature as to contrast the surrounding city skyline. Nature is represented with trees and stones, translated as the primary material of IA House. Wooden louver envelop the facade and the interior of the house, blending both together creating a harmony between the inside and the outside. Stones, as the gray material of the house, presented as an accent and base of IA House as a strong and complementing color to the wood materials. Water feature located beside the living room provides a calm and gentle break to the dark stone and wood material. Through the gaps in the facade and the skylight above, sunlight is able to permeate on every level of the house, diffusing natural light as if to live under tree canopy.

CON C EP T Located inside an office tower in Bandung, Indonesia, Co-Working Space is meant to bring a new perspective to the usual working environment, and providing a more dynamic workplace for both in-

house employees and outsiders. A simple wood platform was created to highlight the space as something dynamic. The space did not necessarily become a seperate element area, but also inte-

grated as a part of the surrounding. Wood platform connected as a seats in the lounge area, as well as a communal table that extends from the main bench area.

Interior Perspective

34

CONC EPT Lobby in a building serves as an example and a visual representation of the company’s vision and direction. The Client wanted to use the lobby as a waiting room for guests, making use of the existing double height to provide an extravagant place where people can stay comfortably even in such a large space. To attain a more luxurious composition darker color schemes are used, using the existing dark gray flooring the walls are made with rough textured paint. Meanwhile, a wood louver accent decorates the existing pillars and the mezzanine walls as vertical elements surrounding the ceiling area, in a precise and systematic function to emphasize the thoughtful and observant nature of the company. Above the wooden louver, barrisol lighting covered almost the entirety of the ceiling to imitate sunlight hence creating an evenly lit room even at two story height.

C ONC EPT AI Townhouse is a renovation project, a house made for an old couple planning on living together. The owner wanted to retain the structure of this house as much as possible, only adding walls and partitions when it is necessary. They wanted the house to be cozy and homey, and don’t want anything too complicated keeping it conventional and familiar for the old couple. To make the house comfortable wood becomes the primary material for this house. The wood is made modular with great attention to composition, together with wood frame joints these become the concept for the interior of the house. Cooking is the activity they love doing together, so the kitchen is made very spacious with many storage areas hidden as well as shelves for showcasing teasers and other pottery. Windows and sliding doors create cross ventilation allowing fresh air to access every room in the house, as well as skylights placed in necessary areas allowing sunlight to penetrate the house. The fresh air and sunlight ensures a healthy life for the old couple..

IS S UE Millennial is the generation that lives among advanced technology. The use of digital technology is inseparable from the millennial generation. It is proven by how technology affects a lot of aspects in life, social aspect being one of them. Today, with digital technology, social media has become a tool to communicate that can connect people without the limitation of time and place. The presence of social media in the digital era as the center of information and interaction, allows everybody to become anyone they want in the digital world. Social media creates a platform to connect people by sharing moments with photos or videos. But soon after, the platform began to change its function, not just a platform to connect with others but also as a place to show their identity as a person. The identity that the millennial generation continues to look for, is now beginning to be expressed through their preference of art.

52

53

54

CON C EP T Interaction becomes the main concept design that is considered to bridge two different social classes. The lower-class millennial is a group of people who still need to fulfill their primary needs. In contrast to the upper-class millennial people who already fulfilled their primary needs and now begin to fulfill their secondary, or even tertiary needs, which is, enjoying art. From there, interaction is needed to minimize the gap between them. Through the marketplace they can interact with each other. The low-class millennial provides art as an object for the upper-class to enjoy, while the upper-class men may also share their knowledge of art to the lower-class men as a form of interaction.

Prison

ISS U E In the Metropolitan city, crime will occur anytime anywhere. Criminal acts will continue to increase, without an exact cause. One of the causes may be due to an unfavorable relationship with family, environmental influences or economic crisis. As a result they need to accept the risk of being jailed. However, after the criminals completed the punishment process, they were rejected by the community. As result, former convicts have no place to go home and express themselves

CON CE PT Acceptance house is a place, aiming to provide shelter and opportunities for former convicts to be able to interact, socialize and back to community. Therefore, we want to make a home for former convicts, where they can blend and interact as one whole community. In this place, the former convicts are also given the opportunity and space to express themselves freely through art and interact with the community without having to worry about their past
