Príhovor Speech

Bienále ilustrácií Bratislava (BIB) je medzinárodná súťažná prehliadka originálov ilustrácií kníh pre deti a mládež, ktorej prvý ročník sa konal v roku 1967. Je to jedna z najväčších udalostí, ktorá je oslavou ilustrátorskej umeleckej tvorby. V tomto roku záštitu nad BIB prevzala prezidentka SR Zuzana Čaputová.

Do roku 2015 Bienále využívalo priestory v Dome umenia na Námestí SNP v Bratislave. V roku 2017 mu poskytlo výstavné priestory Slovenské národné múzeum na Vajanského nábreží. V roku 2019 sa Bienále ilustrácií Bratislava presťahovalo do exkluzívnych priestorov Bratislavského hradu, kde sa koná aj tento rok. Je to dôstojný a reprezentatívny priestor, ktorý ilustráciám a najmä návštevníkom poskytuje aj ďalší estetický rozmer – obohacujú ich krásne vyhliadky na Bratislavu.

Bienále ilustrácií Bratislava predstavuje počas celého svojho trvania tie najkrajšie ilustrácie, podporuje kreativitu a fantáziu mladých ľudí už od útleho veku, buduje základy ich estetického cítenia a dobrého vkusu. Vďaka rôznorodým umeleckým ilustráciám sa deti môžu naučiť rozlišovať čo je skutočne kvalitnou, hodnotnou ilustráciou. Toto je v súčasnosti ve mi dôležité, pretože mladá generácia je ovplyvnená veľkým množstvom vnemov a je potrebné jej ukázať skutočne kvalitné umenie.

Na 28. ročníku BIB je vystavených 2 768 ilustrácií zo 487 kníh od 379 autorov zo 42 krajín. Hodnotila ich desaťčlenná porota pod vedením Mingzou Zhanga z Číny. V tomto roku vzhľadom na epidemiologickú situáciu porota zasadala online a záverečné kolo prebehlo formou videokonferencie. Porota rozdala tri Čestné uznania BIB, päť Plakiet BIB, päť Zlatých jabĺk a, samozrejme, Grand Prix BIB. Okrem toho zasadala aj detská porota, ktorá udelila Cenu detskej poroty. Piatykrát bola udelená Cena primátora Bratislavy. Po tretíkrát bola udelená Ceny Poštovej banky slovenskému ilustrátorovi za mimoriadny prínos v ilustračnej tvorbe. Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) is an international competition show of original illustrations of books for children and young people. The first year of BIB was in 1967. It is one of the largest events, which is a celebration of illustrations art. This year is the exhibition organized under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová.

Until 2015, the Biennial used the premises in the House of Arts on SNP Square in Bratislava. In 2017, the exhibition space was provided by the Slovak National Museum. In 2019, the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava moved to the exclusive premises of Bratislava Castle, where it is also held this year. It is a dignified and representative space, which provides illustrations and especially visitors with another aesthetic dimension – they are enriched by their beautiful views of Bratislava.

Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava presents the most beautiful illustrations throughout its duration, supports the creativity and imagination of young people from an early age, and builds the foundations for their aesthetic sense and good taste. Thanks to a variety of artistic illustrations, children can learn to distinguish what is truly high-quality, valuable illustration. This is very important at this time, because the young generation is influenced by a large number of perceptions and it is necessary to show them really good art.

At the 28th BIB 2,768 illustrations from 487 books by 379 authors from 42 countries are on display. They were judged by a ten-member jury led by Mingzhou Zhang from China. This year, due to the epidemiological situation, the jury met online and the final round took place in the form of a video conference. The jury awarded three BIB Honorary Mentions to the Publisher, five BIB Plaques, five Golden Apples and of course, the BIB Grand Prix. In addition, a children's jury met, which awarded the Children's Jury Prize. The Award of the Mayor of the capital city Bratislava was awarded for the fith time and the Post Bank Award to a Slovak illustrator for extraordinary contribution to illustration art in Slovakia for the third time. All awarded illustrations are introduced in this publication.

Životopisy porotcov CVs of the jury members

USA

Vyučuje detskú literatúru na Miamskej univerzite v Oxforde, štát Ohio. Je členkou Únie kníh pre mládež v Spojených štátoch amerických (USBBY), ktorá je americkou sekciou IBBY. Dva roky pracovala pre výbor Vynikajúce medzinárodné knihy (OIB), ktorému aj dva roky predsedala. V rokoch 2016 a 2017 pracovala pre Výbor významných kníh pre deti, ktorý patrí pod Asociáciu knihovníckych služieb pre deti (ALSC), ktorá je divíziou Americkej knihovníckej asociácie. Hodnotí detské knihy, napísala viacero článkov a príspevkov do publikácií o detskej literatúre, na národnej a medzinárodnej úrovni pracovala na tvorbe prezentácií a plagátov na prezentácie o detských knihách.

Ms. Victoria Fomina Rusko

Vyštudovala umeleckú školu v Moskve. Ilustrovala viac ako 30 kníh, ktoré vyšli vo viacerých krajinách. Za svoju tvorbu získala niekoľko ocenení (napr. BIB, NAMI). Vystavovala na početných individuálnych aj kolektívnych výstavách. Je členkou Asociácie moskovských ilustrátorov a dizajnérov.

Ms. Renáta Fučíková Česko

Vyštudovala ilustráciu grafiku na Vysokej škole umelecko-priemyslovej v Prahe. Publikuje v Česku aj v zahraničí. Získala množstvo ocenení a nominácií, napr. Zlatú stuha za knihy pro deti a mládež, White Raven (Internationale Jugendbibliothek v Mníchove), cenu na Bienále ilustrácií v Teheráne, Grand Prix na Bienále ilustrácií v Záhrebe, nominácie na cenu Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Dielo Renáty Fučíkovej má silný vzdelávací a náučný potenciál. Od roku 2016 pedagogicky pôsobí na Fakulte dizajnu a umenia Ladislava Sutnara Západočeskej univerzity v Plzni, kde vede Ateliér didaktickej ilustrácie.

Ms. Orna Granot Izrael

Ukončila štúdium detskej literatúry na Simmonsovej univerzite a históriu umenia na Hebrejskej univerzite v Jeruzaleme. Pracuje ako kurátorka ilustrovaných kníh pre deti a vedúca knižnice ilustrácií v Krídle Ruth Youth, ktoré patrí k izraelskému múzeu v Jeruzaleme.

Ms Dr. Brenda Dales USA

She teaches children´s literature at Miami University in Oxford in Ohio. She is a member of the International Board of Books for Young People in the United States, which is an American section of IBBY. For two years she has worked and been the forewoman of the Board of Outstanding International Books (OIB). In the years 2016 and 2017 she worked for the Board of Outstanding Books for Children that belongs to the Association for Library Service to Children, it is a division of the American Library Association. She judges children´s books, she has written several articles for publications dedicated to children´s literature. She has created presentations and posters focused on presentation of children´s books.

Ms Victoria Fomina Russia

She studied at the Academy of Art in Moscow. She has illustrated more than 300 books that have been published in several countries. Her works have received different awards (for example, BIB, NAMI...). She has presented her works at many solo and group exhibitions. She is a member of the Moscow Association of Illustrators.

Renáta Fučíková

Czech republic

She studied illustration and applied graphics at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague between the years 1982 – 1988. Her works have been published in the Czech Republic as well as abroad.Her works have received many awards and have been nominated for different awards. Since 2016, she has been teaching at Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia where she leads the Studio of Didactic Illustration. Renáta Fučíková´s works have a strong educational potential. She has also complemented words to her artistic expression and this allowed her to create artist´s books. They are inspired mainly by the Czech and European history.

Ms Orna Granot

Israel

She studied Children´s Literature at Simmons University and Art History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She works as a curator of illustrated books for children and leads the Illustration Library

Je kurátorka, výskumníčka a pedagogička. Venuje sa histórii ilustrácie, ako aj histórii detských ilustrovaných kníh. Učí na Umeleckej akadémii Bezalel, ako aj na Shenkarovej vysokej škole umenia a dizajnu. Je predsedníčkou poroty izraelského múzea, ktorá udeľuje Cenu Bena Yitzhaka za ilustráciu detskej knihy. Pracovala ako kurátorka mnohých výstav ilustrácií, ako aj dvoch hlavných výstav v Krídle: Všetko najlepšie (2015) a Mačky & psy (2017) a bola aj kurátorkou izraelského pavilónu v Bologni (2014).

Ms. Manuela Vladić Maštruko Chorvátsko Vyštudovala Vysokú školu výtvarných umení v triede profesora Ferdinanta Kulmera. Usporiadala množstvo svojich vlastných a skupinových výstav v Chorvátsku a v zahraničí. Popri svojej profesionálnej angažovanosti v oblasti umenia sa venuje aj praktickému výskumu v oblasti ľudského vizuálneho prejavu a kreativity. Je autorkou mnohých multimediálnych umeleckých projektov pre deti a dospelých a pomáha múzeám a galériám organizovať a riadiť umelecké projekty pre ich návštevníkov. Bola členkov viacerých porôt zameraných na umenie a ilustráciu. Napísala a ilustrovala viacero originálnych obrázkových kníh pre deti a napísala množstvo článkov o umení. Za svoju prácu získala niekoľko cien a ocenení. Je členkou Chorvátskej asociácie umelcov a Chorvátskej asociácie nezávislých umelcov.

Ms. Michiko Matsukata Japonsko

Vyštudovala Sophia University (BA v odbore vzdelávanie) a Jagiellonian University (MA v odbore kultúrna animácia). Od roku 2003 pracuje v múzeu umenia Chihiro, zameranému na ilustrácie obrázkových kníh. V múzeu je zodpovedná za výstavy, knižnicu a medzinárodnú sekciu. Ako vedúca medzinárodnej sekcie spoluorganizovala výstavy v rôznych krajinách. Prednášala na viacerých medzinárodných sympóziách. Je členkou japonskej rady pre knihy pre mladých ľudí, Združenia pre štúdium obrázkových kníh.

Mr. Ľuboslav Paľo Slovensko

Študoval na VŠVU v Bratislave na oddelení voľnej grafiky a ilustrácie u prof. Dušana Kállaya. Toto oddelenie momentálne aj vedie. Venuje sa ilustrácii aj voľnej tvorbe. Ilustroval viac ako 40 kníh na Slovensku aj v zahraničí. Mnohé z nich boli autorské. Za svoju prácu získal viacero ocenení na Slovensku i v zahraničí. Bol členom viacerých medzinárodných odborných porôt v súťažiach zameraných na ilustrátorskú tvorbu.

in Ruth Youth Wing that belongs to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. She is a curator, researcher and lecturer. She is interested in history of illustration as well as in history of illustrated children´s books. She teaches at Bezalel Academy of Art as well as at Shenkar College of Art and Design. She is the forewoman of the Israel Museum jury that awards the Ben Yitzhak Prize. He has worked as a curator of several exhibitions of illustrations as well as of two main exhibitions in the Wing: All the Best (2015) and Cats & Dogs (2017). She has also been the curator of the Israel pavilion in Bologna (2014).

Ms Manuela Vladić Maštruko Croatia

She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class led by the professor Ferdinant Kulmer. She has organized several solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. She dedicates her time not only to her professional work, but also to the practical research in the field of art focused on human visual expression and creativity. She is the author of many multimedia projects for children and adults and she helps museums and galleries organize and manage art projects for their visitors. She has been a member of different juries focused on art and illustration. She has written and illustrated different original picture books for children and written many articles about art. Her works have received several awards and prizes. She is a member of the Croatian Association of Artists and Croatian Association of Independent Artists.

Ms Michiko Matsukata Japan

She studied at Sophia University (BA at the Department of Education) and Jagiellonian University (MA at the Department of Cultural Animation). Since 2003 she has been working in Chihiro Art Museum that is focused on picture book illustrations. She is in charge of exhibitions, library and international section. As a leader of the international section she has been co-organizing exhibitions in different countries. She has been giving lectures at different international symposiums. She is a member of the Japanese Committee for Books for Young People, Association of Study of Picture Books.

Mr Ľuboslav Paľo Slovakia

He studied under supervision of prof. Dušan Kállay at the Department of Free Graphics and Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Currently, he leads this department, he dedicates himself to illustration and free style. He has illustrated more than 40 books in Slovakia and abroad. Many of them have been artists´ books. Ms. Emese Révész Maďarsko

Vyštudovala dejiny umenia a maďarskú literatúru na Filozofickej fakulte M. A. Univerzity Eötvösa Loránda v Budapešti. V roku 2008 získala titul PhD. titul v odbore dejiny umenia na Univerzite Eötvösa Loránda. Od roku 2009 vyučuje na Katedre dejín umenia Maďarskej univerzity výtvarných umení v Budapešti. Najdôležitejšia oblasť jej výskumu sú dejiny grafického umenia v Maďarsku od 19. storočia po súčasnosť, maďarská knižná ilustrácia po roku 1945 a v súčasnosti, ako aj súčasná detská knižná ilustrácia. Kurátorsky sa zúčastnila niekoľkých výstav zameraných na históriu grafiky a ilustráciu detských kníh. V roku 2019 bola jednou zo zakladateliek a organizátoriek 1. festivalu ilustrácií v Budapešti (Billufest).

Mr. Javier Zabala Španielsko

Študoval ilustráciu a grafický dizajn na umeleckých školách v Oviede a Madride. Ilustroval viac ako 80 kníh, v niektorých je aj autorom textu. Publikoval vo viacerých vydavateľstvách na svete a jeho knihy boli preložené do 17 jazykov. Podieľal sa na mnohých ďalších projektoch, ako je scénografia, plagáty, reklama, obálky, časopisy. V súčasnosti sa venuje aj pedagogickej praxi. Viedol ilustračné workshopy a prednášal na univerzitách a umeleckých školách v Španielsku, Taliansku, Kolumbii, Ekvádore, Mexiku, Iráne, Kube, Brazílii, Venezuele, Izraeli, Singapure, Chorvátsku, Portugalsku, Čile, Argentíne, Francúzsku, Malajzii, Rusku č Číne. Jeho práce boli prezentované na mnohých samostatných a skupinových výstavách po celom svete. Za svoju tvorbu získal množstvo ocenení, okrem iného aj Zlaté jablko na BIB 2015.

Mr. Mingzhou Zhang Čína Študoval na univerzite v Šanghaji odbor manažment zahraničných vecí a neskôr pracoval v zámorskom oddelení čínskej cestovnej služby pre mládež a v ázijskom úrade čínskeho Ministerstva zahraničných vecí. V roku 2003 začal pracovať pre CBBY – čínsku sekciu Medzinárodnej únie pre detskú knihu (IBBY). V rokoch 2008 až 2012 bol zvolený do výkonného výboru IBBY, v rokoch 2016 až 2018 pôsobil ako viceprezident IBBY. Bol generálnym riadite om vydavateľstva CCPPG . Je riaditeľom predstavenstva Čínskej asociácie vydavateľov, výkonným viceprezidentom Čínskej spoločnosti pre výskum detskej literatúry v Číne a prezidentom IBBY.

Ms Emese Révész Hungary

She studied History of Art and Hungarian Literature at the Philosophical Faculty of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. In 2008, she received the title PhD in history of art. Since 2009 she has been teaching at the Department of History of Art at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. Her main focus is on the research of Hungarian history of graphic art from the 19th century until today; Hungarian book illustration after the year 1945 and today as well as on the current children´s book illustration. As a curator she has participated in some exhibitions focused on history of graphics and children´s book illustration. In 2019 she was one of the founders and organizers of the 1st Festival of Illustrations in Budapest (Billufest).

Mr Javier Zabala Spain

He studied illustration and graphic design at schools of art in Oviedo and Madrid. He has illustrated more than 80 books, he is the author of the text in some of them. His works have been published by different publishing houses in the world and his books have been translated into 17 languages. He has participated in many different projects, for example, scenography, posters, promotion, magazines etc. He also dedicates himself to lecturing. He has led illustration workshops and given lectures at universities and schools of art in Spain, Italy, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Iran, Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela, Israel, Singapore, Croatia, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, France, Malaysia, Russia, China etc. His works have been presented at solo and group exhibitions all over the world and received many awards, inter alia, Golden Apple at BIB 2015.

Mingzhou Zhang China

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Affairs Management from the Shanghai International Studies University and later worked in the Overseas Department of the China Youth Travel Service and as a Civil Servant at the Asia Bureau of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2003 he joined CBBY as Deputy Secretary General. He was elected to the IBBY Executive Committee from 2008 to 2012 and was the 2012 Chair of the IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award. He was elected to the IBBY EC again in 2014 and served as IBBY Vice-President from 2016-18. Unti 2018 Mingzhou Zhang was the General Manager of the CCPPG (Chinese Children’s Press and Publications Group) International division. He is a board director of China Publishers Association and Executive Vice President of China Children’s Literature Research Society.

Ľudia a predmety zaplnia 15 izieb v trojposchodovom dome s podkrovím. Všetko vidno naraz v priestorovom zobrazení kresieb, celú štruktúru a k tomu sa naskytne pohľad cez dvere a okná, pričom exteriér je ponúknutý ako prekvapenie. Skúmaním činností a detailov v každom interiéri a exteriéri vidíme, že hnedastá č čiernobiela ilustrácia vytvára pre diváka fascinujúce spojenia a príbehy.

People and objects fill 15 rooms in a house composed of three floors and an attic. All can be viewed at once in cut-away drawings of the entire structure, plus there are glimpses through doors and windows when the exterior is presented along with a surprise character. Examining the actions and details of each interior and exterior sepia or black-and-while illustration creates fascinating connections and stories for the viewer.

Veľký priestor ruskej krajiny zobrazili dvojičky Kendelové prostredníctvom panoramatických obrázkov.
