THE WORLD OF WORK

OPINIONS ON “THE WORLD OF WORK” It is very important to have an idea of what career you want to follow. You must be sure about it. You must dress for the work you want, not for the work you have. That means that you must act like a boss so that someday you can become one. You must better yourself every day. (11ºCT1-Pedro Isabel and Tiago Antunes) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although it may seem as if it is the opposite, work has not yet evolved that much. Though hierarchy and being ruled by fear are the settings of the past and even knowing that from the future onwards, work will only be more interactive based, more information will be shared and more employee connection will exist, there are still big problems like fear-based leadership, a lot of fixed working hours as well as a fixed hierarchy. Things like email and internet make work regulate easily, but man’s greed and wish for power over others make employees redundant, working for peanuts and even getting the boot - still today and maybe in the future. (11ºCT1-André and António) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nowadays all employees have to adapt themselves to new work strategies, new media and new technologies as well. In our opinion the world of work became easier due to the disappearance of hierarchy, which allows all the employees to feel integrated and to build a good relationship. Being able to work wherever and whenever they want to, employees can also be more efficient and productive. (11ºCT1-Carlota and Ecaterina) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------As we can see the world of work is changing very fast. With the evolution of technology, workplaces are not just offices inside a company, but common places like public ones and home. The career ladder suffered a significant change, so there is not a real boss who only gives orders, but an employer who also works with other employees as a team and is responsible for them. This leads to shared information between the boss and employees. Flexible working hours are a reality only possible because media have changed. Skype is a popular method to communicate with other workmates, allowing them to work and contact more easily. (11ºCT1-João Ferreira and Tiago Sena)

From our point of view, we believe that the world of work in the future will be better than it was in the past as communication will be easier. We will also have flexible working hours and we will be able to work anywhere we want as long as we are connected. Therefore these new aspects of work will make our life simpler and happier. (11ºCT1-Raquel and Ricardo) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nowadays the world of work is very developed. A few years ago the technological world started to change the world of work. With these changes the old and common jobs became non-vacant and young people must study now for the new jobs, the most technological ones. The young adults shouldn’t close their minds to different types of jobs. They must do something to adapt to this new and challenging world of work. (11ºCT1-Rita and Rodrigo) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Today young people don’t need to have fixed working hours and places, that is to say, their lives are being facilitated by using the current technology like smart phones, tablets and “coffices”. Sharing information is an advantage but it can also be a bad one, depending on the situation. For example, classified documents and personal files can be exposed on the internet. In general, work will become easier and lighter in the future due to a different way of communicating and to cloud technology. (11ºCT1-Liliya and Kilmer) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Paper becomes touch screen, pen becomes hands and humans become robots. That’s what it will be like in the future. Nowadays we already use more computers rather than paper not only in our daily life but also at work. With the evolution of technology, computers won’t have a keyboard or buttons but touch screen instead. Humans still work with technology but, who knows in the future, robots will replace human work everywhere. (11ºCT1-Catarina and Marta)

To get into the world of work, you have to be the best at what you do. In Portugal youth unemployment is increasing every year. If you want to work abroad, you’ll have to overcome the language barrier. So I advise you, guys, to study. (11ºLH1-Sérgio) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The world of work is changing very fast. Nowadays many students think thoroughly about their education and their future work. Young adults have an easy access to technologies and new strategies at work. For example, working hours are flexible and in the past they were fixed. Information is shared and there isn’t a boss but a leader. Concluding, young adults must choose a job that they like but always improving their skills, because the job market is “overloaded”. (11ºLH1-Inês and Ana Shocron) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------The world of work has been changing along the years with the new technologies and development of societies. Unemployment rate is high in Portugal and that’s the reason why young adults are advised to study in order to have a good professional life. We think that they should search an area they like, where they can have a good salary, feel motivated to work and like the lifestyle they have. (11ºLH1-Adriana and Filipe) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sometimes you might ask yourself:”What will I do when I finish school? Before joining the world of work, you have to go to school. So choose the right course for you or what you think you are good at. It might not be the job of your dreams, but you will be ready to start working at something as long as you improve your skills. (11ºLH1-Cláudio and Francisco) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------The world of work is not easy. However, follow your own dreams and not your parents or other people’s dreams. (11ºLH1-Andrea and Celeste)
