AMADE Analysis and Advanced Materials for Structural Design University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre AMADE is a research group based at the University of Girona. It has 15 years of experience in the study, characterisation and analysis of the mechanical behaviour of advanced materials and structures. AMADE develops projects ranging from the analysis of composite materials for aeronautical structures to the simulation of the behaviour of structural solutions for buildings. Three of AMADE's laboratories have the ISO17025 certification for testing and calibration, and it is in the process of applying for the aerospace industry's NADCAP accreditation. AMADE has ISO9001.

Technology portfolio AMADE has specialised in the formulation of numerical models for the simulation of advanced materials. The formulations are implemented into commercial finite element codes to obtain powerful design tools for the analysis of composite materials (aeronautical structures) and the simulation of the behaviour of structural solutions (buildings). AMADE LAB is equipped to conduct various mechanical, physical and thermal tests on composite materials. In 2012 it obtained the ISO 17025 certificate for the following: testing tensile properties (ASTMD3039M and EN2561), conducting Mode I tests (ISO15024 and the internal procedure TP-003 GIC test ISO15024) and Mode II tests (AITM1-0006), all at ambient temperature.

BIO-GLS Technological Centre for the Integral Treatment of Gas Emissions, Liquid Effluents and Solid Waste Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) About the centre BIO-GLS Technological Centre is the unification of two Consolidated Research Groups from the UAB’s Department of Chemical Engineering: GENOCOV is specialized in gaseous emissions and liquid effluents treatment systems, and GICOM in the treatment of solid wastes. BIO-GLS is able to give an integral solution to the biological treatment of wastes (gaseous, liquid and solid states). BIO-GLS develops and transfers technologies in the field of waste management, treatment and recovery of materials. It undertakes RDI projects in a wide range of industrial sectors and Public Administrations at all geographical levels.

Technology portfolio RDI agreements with companies that need to develop processes and technologies for waste reducing, management, treatment and/or recovery of materials. Centre QCI Colloid and Interfacial Chemistry Centre Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC) Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) About the Centre QCI, belonging to IQAC-CSIC and CIBER-BBN, is devoted to the study of colloidal surfactant systems in order to contribute to the development of technological applications in two main fields: colloid chemistry and advanced materials. Innovation in this area involves studying the colloidal and interfacial properties of surfactant systems, developing formulations, improving preparation processes, obtaining advanced nanostructured materials, and modifying surfaces for chemical and physical (plasma) treatments.

CIDSAV Centre for Innovation and Development in Plant Health University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre CIDSAV is a research centre at the University of Girona. Its work on plant diseases includes research, service provision, technology transfer, training and dissemination. It has the ISO 9001 (2008) certification and over 20 years of experience in working on projects with businesses. CIDSAV acts as a consultant in the phytosanitary quality of plant materials sold by the nursery and seed production sector. It is likewise involved in the diagnosis and control of diseases during the production, storage and marketing of plant products.

Technology portfolio Projects in the field of epidemiology: diagnosis, identification and control of causal agents of plant diseases, and the evaluation of the efficacy of fungicides, bactericides, plant growth promoters, and fertilisers, whether in vitro, in vivo, or for field assays. Development of biofungicides and biofertilisers: from the isolation stage through to their selection, characterisation, efficacy evaluation, development of testing techniques, and action, production and formulation mechanisms.

Most relevant projects CIDSAV has developed microbial biofungicides designed to pass the various stages for registering phytosanitary products. During the various stages of the project, a micro-organism was selected based on its efficacy, followed by the development and formulation of a product, and ending with toxicological and environmental impact studies.

CIMITEC Metamaterials Research Centre for Innovation in Electronic and Communication Technologies Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) About the Centre The main goal of CIMITEC is to promote research into an emerging field with great technological potential, namely, metamaterials for use in the electronics and communications sector. Technology portfolio CTNS designs and develops projects for testing the efficacy of ingredients and nutraceuticals based on the nutrition and health claims a product intends to advertise. CVC Computer Vision Centre Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) About the Centre CVC is a not-for-profit institution founded in 1995 by the Government of Catalonia and the UAB that is devoted to research and development for computer vision (the acquisition and processing of images using computers). It is a cross-disciplinary technology that can have a wide range of applications for human use and in production processes. The Centre's mission is to conduct research of recognised quality and international renown, transfer its knowledge to businesses and society, and train experts in its field of specialisation.

DBA Centre of Biotechnological and Agricultural Developments University of Lleida (UdL) About the Centre DBA began its existence as a UdL research group with over 20 years of experience. It works in the field of the recovery of by-products produced by agriculture, forestry and the food industry using chemical and/or enzymatic methods (industrial biotechnology) so that they can be processed to make value-added products. DBA mainly works for businesses in the agri-food sector on projects related to agricultural, forestry and algae production, the recovery of byproducts to obtain products with different uses and the conversion of biomass to produce biofuel. It also has expertise in advanced instrumental chemistry.

DIOPMA Process and Material Design and Optimisation Centre University of Barcelona (UB) About the Centre DIOPMA is a scientific research centre based at the University of Barcelona's Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering. FITEX Private Foundation for Textile Innovation

About the Centre FITEX is a not-for-profit organisation set up in 2000 by a group of companies from the textile cluster in the Anoia region, the Spanish Association of Knitwear Manufacturers and Igualada City Hall. The vision of FITEX is to become a leading R&D partner for the textile and clothing sector. The mission of FITEX is to promote R&D&I in the textile sector. FITEX is the only technology centre that is devoted exclusively to the clothing sector, for which it has undertaken projects in the areas of fashionwear, workwear, hospital-wear and sportswear. It develops innovative products, processes and marketing strategies, thus contributing to the performance of each of the sectors for which it has worked. It has worked on international projects.

Technology portfolio Its projects involve the development of new textile products that incorporate technologies based on conductor materials for creating sensor fabrics and items of clothing that have had active ingredients added to them to relieve skin disorders such as psoriasis, atopy and diabetic leg sores. It also uses its know-how to manufacture clothing made of conductor materials so that it has heat-generating properties, in addition to conducting R&D into new materials and processes that improve the comfort and sustainability of the final product.

GCEM Electromagnetic Compatibility Group Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) About the Centre GCEM belongs to the UPC's Department of Electronic Engineering and to the UPC Technology Centre (CIT UPC). GCEM is made up of a team of researchers and qualified technical staff who work on applied research projects and engage in technology transfer to the industrial sector.

GCEM works in partnership with businesses on research and technological innovation projects in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). It trains and advises engineers involved in the design and installation of electronic devices. It allows businesses to use its laboratory equipment as an extension to their own facilities so that they can test their products.

GEOCAMB Centre for Research in Environmental Geology and Cartography University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre As part of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Girona and based at the UdL's Science and Technology Park, GEOCAMB focuses its expertise on tackling problems in the field of APPLIED GEOLOGY. GRIB Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) / IMIM About the Centre GRIB is a joint associate of the UPF and the IMIM. It is made up of a team of over 70 scientists who are divided into six multidisciplinary research groups.

ICTs and computational methods have now become essential in managing data obtained from biomedical research. GRIB's mission is to develop computational models to improve the understanding and prediction of biological phenomena, with special emphasis placed on those related to human diseases, their prevention and treatment.

Technology portfolio GRIB works alongside many pharmaceutical companies in the framework of FP7 projects and the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI JU). These companies include Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Bayer. Its technology portfolio includes the development of systems for detecting adverse reactions to drugs, and for better predicting the safety and side effects of new drugs; the creation of an open-source infrastructure for integrating chemical and biological data to help lead to the discovery of new drugs.

GRIHO Human-Computer Interaction and Data Integration Research Group University of Lleida (UdL) About the Centre GRIHO researches human-computer interaction and data integration at the UdL. It has a dynamic organisational structure, an inter-university team of scientists who deliver excellence and the latest equipment. LABSON Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems Laboratory Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) About the Centre LABSON is a research group at the UPC based on its Terrassa campus with over 12 years of experience in the design and development of fluid mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, as well as in their use in machine automation and industrial processes. LABSON belongs to the UPC Technology Centre (CIT UPC). LABSON is able to develop applied research projects thanks to its broad experience in working with industry. It has taken part in/coordinated seven international projects (five EU and two Iberoeka projects). It is currently the coordinator of the FLEXICAST (7FP) project. It delivers services to the non-road mobile machinery, aeronautics, renewable energy and industrial processing sectors.

LEQUIA Laboratory of Chemical and Environmental Engineering University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre LEQUIA is a research group at the University of Girona with over 20 years of experience in developing eco-innovative solutions for wastewater treatment. It is currently affiliated to the UdG's Institute of the Environment and is recognised as a consolidated research group by the Government of Catalonia. The Centre works on publicly funded R&D&I projects, and through technology transfer agreements with businesses and public bodies. METEOR Innovation Centre in Membrane Technology and Process Engineering Rovira i Virgili University (URV) About the Centre METEOR belongs to the URV's Department of Chemical Engineering. Its main purpose is the development of products based on its research for society and industry. Around 18 people work at the Centre, four of whom are PhD holders. METEOR aims to transfer its technology to businesses of any kind. However, it is also seeking to establish relations with SMEs, so that it can serve as their laboratories and R&D departments in order to develop their products.

MTG Music Technology Group Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) About the Centre MTG was set up in 1994 and is currently attached to the UPF's Department of Information and Communication Technologies. MTG contributes to improving sound technologies by conducting internationally competitive research, in addition to transferring its technology to society, thereby impacting on academic, socio-economic and cultural progress. MTG mainly works on R&D projects related to music technologies using funding from requests for tender or private entities. Most of the technology developed by MTG has been turned into commercial products that are sold by partner entities or one of the three spin-off companies that have come out of the Group (BMAT, Reactable and Voctro Labs).

Technology portfolio MTG conducts research projects in partnership with various public and private organisations, to which it contributes its expertise in its fields of specialisation, specifically: audio signal processing, automatic sound description, advanced musical interaction, specific sound and music communities, and the modelling of musical performance. The bulk of the Group's research is done through R&D projects, usually in partnership with other international organisations with similar interests. NANOMOL Centre of Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB) Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) About the Centre NANOMOL is a research group set up by the CSIC-ICMAB and CIBER-BBN that contributes to advancing knowledge in the field of molecular nanoscience and functional organic materials. Its main lines of research are molecular magnetism and electronics, low-cost organic electronics, supercritical fluids, nanomedicine and biomaterials. The multidisciplinary research conducted by NANOMOL aims to hone the self-assembly, nanostructuring and processing of functional (bioand electro-active) molecules as crystals, particles, vesicles, and structured or self-assembled monolayers on various substrates showing nonconventional chemical, physical and biological properties.

Technology portfolio NANOMOL proactively searches for ways of transferring its knowledge to: a) pharmaceutical companies that wish to improve the clinical effectiveness and selectivity of their active molecules through nanomedicine; b) companies that manufacture medical or electronic devices that wish to introduce smart, high-performance materials for monitoring changes in pressure, deformation or temperature. It also assists companies from the chemical sector in general and the cosmetics sector that need to make or characterise powder, dispersion or emulsion formulations. NANOMOL specialises in the field of the preparation and characterisation of particulate materials (active ingredient particles, nanocapsules, vesicles, liposomes, drug-polymer conjugates) and nanostructured surfaces.

NETS Network Technologies and Strategies Research Group Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) About the Centre The UPF's NeTS research group works in two areas. On the one hand, in the field of wireless technologies, including wireless LAN, mesh and sensor networks. On the other hand, it deals with the financing of network deployment, sustainability and the associated regulations.

NeTS works on applied research and innovation projects for businesses, ICT consultants and government agencies. The Group also helps its clients to find funding as it has broad experience in drawing up project proposals for submission to requests for tender, whether regional or international.

Technology portfolio NeTS delivers solutions in the fields of smart cities (open data, a dynamic data collection platform for managing cities and open innovation), ICT consultancy (network deployment models and the socio-economic impact of ICTs) and utilities (smart management of energy resources using wireless sensor networks). The Group has simulation tools and its own laboratory for designing, testing and implementing communications protocols for mesh networks and power-efficient wireless sensor networks. NUTREN-NUTRIGENOMICS Centre for Nutrition and Aging University of Lleida (UdL), Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida) About the Centre NUTREN is a research group at the UdL with over 15 years of experience in researching the biology of aging and how nutrition can modify the process. The relevance of its findings is reflected by over 130 international publications on the subject. Its ultimate aim is to become one of the leading R&D and technology transfer centres in the field of applied molecular nutrition. PPF Fermentation Pilot Plant Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) About the Centre PPF's vision is to become a leading centre in the development, improvement and innovation of bioprocesses. To do so, it gives scientific and technical support for the development of enzymatic processes and the culture of microorganisms on a semi-industrial scale.

PPF's mission is to promote the transfer of its knowledge and experience to businesses in the pharmaceutical, chemical, veterinary and agrifood sectors. It assists them in implementing advanced technologies on an industrial scale that will give them a competitive edge.

Technology portfolio The Centre works on: 1) R&D&I projects that focus on the design and optimisation of bioprocesses on a pilot scale; 2) projects in which it is subcontracted to obtain significant amounts of a product through enzymatic synthesis, cell and microorganism cultures; 3) consultancy and training for businesses in the biotechnology sector. SART - MEDI AMBIENT Environmental Advice, Research and Technology Service University of Vic (UVic) About the Centre SART - Medi Ambient is a service attached to the University of Vic whose overriding goal is to conduct applied research into environmental issues and transfer the resulting knowledge and technology. TECAT Innovation Center in Catalysis Rovira i Virgili University (URV) About the Centre TecaT is a technology innovation centre set up in 2006 by the URV. Its work is based on the research conducted by the Organometallic and Homogeneous Catalysis research group (OMICH). This research group has been working on the preparation of organometallic compounds and their use as catalysts in homogeneous catalysis processes since 1986. In the field of innovative chemistry, TecaT applies its know-how of synthetic methods using sustainable processes and green chemistry to current real-world problems. Its products with new properties are designed for use in the field of applied chemistry. It also provides assistance in the testing of finished products. It develops any type of catalysis-based technology.

Technology portfolio The applications and solutions that TecaT delivers to its clients are based on its lines of expertise: modular ligands, new catalytic reactions, nanocatalysis, high-pressure chemistry, the design of catalysts, the optimisation of catalytic processes and catalyst screening. Its technical services are: technology transfer, the preparation, coordination and management of R&D projects, knowledge transfer and training courses, and scientific and technical consultancy.

Most relevant projects In 1998, it started work on a project in partnership with Repsol, for which it has worked under research agreements ever since. In 1999, its also signed a two-year research agreement with Bayer's site in Leverkusen (Germany). In the framework of the research agreements with these companies, a number of doctoral theses have been written and two patents have been filed as a result of the work with each company. TECHNOSPERM Reproductive Biotechnology Centre University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre TechnoSperm is a research, innovation and technology transfer centre at the University of Girona devoted to reproductive biotechnology in animals and humans. TechnoSperm's scientific and technological expertise in the field of assisted reproduction dates back to 1987 when it first conducted work on swine. Since then, it has extended its work to other domestic animals (horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, cats, etc.) and humans.

Technology portfolio TechnoSperm works on biotechnology research projects and partnerships related to animal reproduction. Its research covers sperm cryopreservation and embryo freezing, semen and embryo banks (germplasm), the computerised analysis of sperm quality and the enhancement of refrigerated semen doses. It also carries out in vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer, assisted reproduction, cell cultures, the analysis of semen quality by flow cytometry, real-time analysis of bacterial and viral load by PCR, paternity and kinship tests, reproductive and food traceability, and the sexing of semen and embryos.

Most relevant projects Improved swine reproduction performance for a number of businesses; creation and consolidation of the Centre for Assisted Reproduction in Pigs in Nicaragua.

TECNATOX Centre for Environmental, Food and Toxicological Technology Rovira i Virgili University (URV) About the Centre TecnATox is a research centre specialised in technology transfer in the fields of toxicology, environmental health and food.

The Centre's work entails identifying, transferring, promoting and facilitating tools that businesses and organisations wish to share with their customers, society and government agencies to cover their environmental needs.

Technology portfolio The main R&D lines are the control, monitoring and prediction of the effects of different sources of contamination on health and the environment, the programming and validation of contamination fate and transport models, the study of environmental exposure to chemical and microbiological contaminants, and human health risk assessments. Other services include the development of expert systems for managing decision-making processes, sustainability studies of processes, regional sustainability and industrial ecology, and life cycle impact assessments of products and processes.

Most relevant projects RIBEFOOD: computational tool for a healthy diet free of contaminants. TDS-EXPOSURE: development of a homogenous European system for conducting total diet studies (TDS). GRECAT: study for calculating the concentrations of heavy metals, dioxins and dibenzofurans in the physical and biotic environments of the catchment area of a special waste incineration plant in Tarragona.

TIG Graphics and Imaging Laboratory University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre The aim of TIG at the University of Girona is to become a leading international centre in the innovation and design of graphics, imaging and multimedia that deliver quality solutions to businesses and institutions. The TIG Centre wishes to become a leading group in the field so that it is able to deliver quality, state-of-the-art solutions to problems that cover the sector's growing needs. UDT-IA Technology Development Unit in Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) About the Centre UDT-IA was set up in 2002 as an IIIA-CSIC service unit. This research centre is based on the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). VICOROB Computer Vision and Robotics University of Girona (UdG) About the Centre ViCOROB is a research group at the University of Girona involved in computer vision and robotics. Set up in 1993, it is now recognised as a consolidated research group by the Government of Catalonia and has formed part of the TECNIO brand since 2008. ViCOROB combines first class research with technology transfer. It conducts basic and applied research in projects that promote values such as respect, diversity, the work ethic, internationalisation and entrepreneurship.
