Founded in 1979 and long-established on the Breton coast in France, BIC Sport was created by Baron Bich, a man passionate about the sea and sailing, who used his industrial prowess and know-how to develop modern windsurfing, the first grass roots board sport of the 1980s. Quickly established as the world leader in windsurf manufacture, BIC Sport has, in the last twenty years, used its technological manufacturing skills to diversify into other market segments including surf, kayak, junior racing dinghies and, most recently, into Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). BIC’s core values of quality, durability and affordability form the foundation of the brand’s reputation and opened up the world of board sports to hundreds of thousands of lovers of the elements, thrill-seekers, and those simply happy to spend time close to nature, out on the water, doing something environmentally sound. In fact, BIC Sport has made respect for the environment a priority in every stage of how it’s production systems are organised. This committment has now been ratified by the Ecoride organization and recognised by other business awards such as the «Prix du Bateau Bleu».

Every BIC Sport manufactured board has been conceived by an expert shaper and made in France using production systems that faithfully reproduce perfect copies of the original prototypes. The unique construction and materials guarantee you many years of reliable, high performance service. Today, BIC Sport is acknowleged as the pioneer of production surf boards in the highly demanding surfer market ; but it’s also one of the European leaders in the Sit-on-Top kayak market thanks to its range of innovative products that have won them numerous design awards. Latest into the board sports roster, Stand Up Paddle, is currently an area of specially dynamic development. It’s a sport that’s growing at a phenomenal rate, one that represents more than ever the values of simplicity and accessibility that have made the BIC brand such a long-standing success. In 2013 BIC Sport received two awards recognizing its achievements : the highly prestigious «GEAR OF THE YEAR» prize, from American magazine Outdoor Buyer’s Guide, for the BIC SUP Wing 11’ and 12’6, plus «Brand of the Year» awarded by the Eurosima organisation.

On the competition scene, BIC Sport created a brand new concept in junior windsurfing with the BIC Techno 293 One Design board, which has now become the officially recognized race board for Under 17 riders worldwide. This monotype/formula race class has grown at an incredible rate in over 40 countries already. BIC Sport also injected the same energy into sailing with its junior race dinghy, the truly innovative O’pen BIC, which has totally motivated the world of junior sailing in over 30 countries. In Stand Up Paddling BIC Sport recently launched the BIC SUP One Design Challenge on the Wing 11’ & 12’6. This challenge takes place throughout the world in local SUP communities, allowing One Design competition on exactly the same board for all participants.

BIC SPORT Sustainable Development

BIC Sport has been manufacturing watersport products for over 30 years. Long before there was any awareness of environmental issues, it was keen to use a « clean » manufacturing process whereby materials could be recycled, and the production process did not involve gas emissions. From start to end of life-cycle, BIC Sport products are environmentally-friendly.

The Outside summer Buyer’s Guide not only highlights the very best in adventure gear, from sports equipment but also calls out the best values in each class. • BIC Sport has been voted Brand of the Year 2013 by EuroSIMA, (Europe-wide trade association for board sports). The Brand of the Year award recognises the actions and efforts made by manufacturers having had a golden year in terms of progression, product development, and/or a major boost of brand image accross Europe during the year. 7

BIC SPORT The Machinery

BIC Sport is the proud owner of an industrial tool that is unique in the world, capable of three different manufacturing techniques : thermoforming, thermoforming around a polystyrene core, and blow moulding/blown extrusion. BIC Sport is the only manufacturer in the world to have these three manufacturing techniques available on one production site. This enables us to produce six different product types. 8

Hollow Twin-Sheet thermoforming The principle : two slabs (deck and hull) are heat-moulded in an aluminium mould then pressure-fused together. The whole thing is then cooled and taken for finishing in the workshops. Products using this technique : kayaks, O’pen BIC, tenders and dinghies

Thermoforming around a polystyrene core The principle : a polystyrene blank is covered with fibreglass layers which is then impregnated with resin before being moved to a mould containing two prepared thermomoulded ASA finishing sheets. The mould is pressure-sealed, then cooled, the finished product extracted and sent for finishing. Products using this technique : ACE-TEC windsurf boards, ACE-TEC surf boards, ACE-TEC SUP boards

Blow moulding/Blown extrusion The principle : a tube of extruded (molten) polyethylene is gravity-moulded and then shaped by being blown against the inner walls of its hollow mould. Next it’s cooled, taken out of the mould and moved to a steel shaper where it is expansion-filled with high density polyurethane foam. Products using this technique : Beach windsurf boards, DURA-TEC surf boards, DURA-TEC SUP boards

A high-tech production facility Right at the heart of the factory where production boards are manufactured, the RACE-TEC workshop is an essential component of the BIC Sport research and development facility. It comprises a shaping room, a digitally controlled KMS 4-axis shaping machine, a laminating room, and separate sanding and painting rooms. Products using this technique : RACE-TEC SUP boards

DuRA-TEC Technology

DURA-TEC is the Most Durable Construction Available Legendary durability, DURA-TEC combines an ultra-durable polyethylene outer shell (like a kayak but lighter weight) with a full polyurethane foam core (like a surfboard) thermoformed in steel molds to ensure consistent and accurate reproduction of the original shape. Proven and long lasting with great performance, we’ve been making recreational wind and surf boards like this since the 1980’s and many are still on the water today!

Polyethylene outer shell : Ultra-durable skin to reduce impact damage Deck pad: Low-profile, lightweight EVA provides comfort and grip

Closed cell polyurethane inner core: Durable and watertight. Doesn’t retain water in the event of damage to outer shell FCS fin system * : High performance universal standard for maximum fin customization

The tube of extruded (molten) polyethylene is gravity-moulded then shaped by being blown against the inner walls of its hollow mould (see photo). Next it’s cooled, taken out of the mould and moved to a steel shaper where it is expansion-filled with high density polyurethane foam. Products using this technique : DURA-TEC Beach windsurf, surf and SUP boards. 12

C-TEC Technology The construction of the BIC SUP TRACER has received particular attention, to create light weight and super-stiff boards for optimum glide while retaining high resistance to knocks and bumps. The success of this construction is largely due to the combination of Carbon-Innegra weave fabric throughout the whole length of the board, together with a light weight low density core. The key advantage of Carbon-Innegra material is that it is just as stiff as carbon, but more resistant and durable.

Transparent Epoxy resin + polyurethane varnish with UV filter: High protection of the board 180gr/m2 fiberglass: A high quality finish and resistance to small knocks and scratches Fiberglass reinforcement: Reduces the risk of heel dents in the standing area Hybrid weave of Innegra and 152gr/m2 Carbon fiber: resistance to knocks/bumps and superior rigidity Core: Low density (15kg/m3) EPS foam Sup AIr Technology The SUP Air is a high pressure inflatable board using “Drop-Stitch” material. This material is made up of a double-layer PVC coated and reinforced fabric, with a mesh of very fine polyester threads connecting the deck to the hull. These threads ensure that the board can be inflated to very high pressures, and when combined with a 6” thickness as standard on all SUP Air boards, the rigidity and performance is maximized for general all-round use. A high-pressure pump is supplied with the board, allowing you to easily inflate it to the 15 PSI recommended for maximum performance and glide.

Traction pad in EVA foam 4mm thick Outer layer PVC fabric for extra stiffness and durability

Inner layer PVC fabric for definition of shape and rocker Drop-Stitch material, base layer PVC with polyester filaments 13

BIC SPORT

TWIn ShEET Technology

Super Solid and High Quality Finish The exclusive Twin Sheet technology used in the construction of BIC Sport kayaks is achieved by using thermoformed Polyethylene sheets. The deck and hull sections are formed and sealed together in one single operation. The result of this fusion is incredibly durable, unique in kayak manufacture. The join line is light and 100% secure. This process, creating a product that is lighter, stronger and smoother finished than rotomoulding, is also anti-UV treated. Highly resistant to knocks and scratching, it gives all BIC Sport kayaks exceptional durability.

7 mm Polyethylene skin anti UV treated: Strong and Durable, highly resistant to knocks and scratches. Deck and hull sheet thermoformed in an aluminium mould : Precision manufacturing for a quality shape giving maximum glide and performance

Deck and hull sheet thermoformed in one single operation : Fusion of hull and deck sheets into one complete kayak, with maximum strength along the rail. Front and Rear bumpers (replaceable): Protect the kayak against abrasion and wear and tear.

The two slabs (deck and hull) are heat-moulded in an aluminium Mould (see photo), then pressure-fused together. The whole thing is then cooled and taken for finishing in the workshops. Products using this technique : kayaks, O’pen BIC, tenders and dinghies 14

BIC SPORT One Design Competitions

BIC Sport One Design Competitions: The growing success of fun, friendly competitive watersports One of the primary reasons Baron Bich founded BIC Sport was to make watersports activities affordable and accessible for everyone. In fact, he often talked of the windsurfer as the ‘bicycle of the sea’. To this end, BIC Sport put resources and energy into the development of ‘One Design’ competitions. These fun, friendly formats level the playing field for all participants since everyone uses the same equipment, and eliminates the ‘arms race’ that pushes competitive sports towards exotic, ever more expensive equipment. The appeal of One Design formats first gained traction in 2005 among youth windsurfers with the development of the Techno 293 One Design class, which has gone on to become THE worldwide recognized board for youth Under 17 competitions. Affordable, easy to ride and with great performance, the Techno 293 OD has, in the space a few short years, become the most dynamic sailing class in windsurfing with more than 9000 young racers now competing.

Expanding upon this success BIC Sport launched the O’pen BIC junior sailboat in 2006, which quickly became an ISAF International Class. The international body had clearly recognized the new dinghy as a way of attracting more youngsters to sailing, and today there are more than 6000 O’pen BICs sailing in over 30 countries, with several national sailing associations also approving the Class and it’s fun sailing format at a national level.

The newest arrival in the BIC Sport family, SUP, has embraced the One Design concept with the launch in 2013 of the ‘BIC SUP One Design Challenge’. The objective of this latest addition to the BIC Sport One Design family is for paddlers of all skill levels to race together on one single model : the award-winning Wing 12’6. As with the Techno 293 OD and the O’pen BIC, there’s no equipment advantage, which places the focus clearly on the performance of each individual. 2013 was the first year for this latest series, and over 300 successful SUP One Design contests were held worldwide!

Stand Up Paddling, Paddleboarding, Paddlesurfing, SUP Whatever you choose to call it, there’s something magical about the simple act of walking on water. And unlike other board sports that demand hours and hours of practice to become proficient, SUP is easy to learn, simple to do and incredibly FUN. It appeals equally to men and women, young and old, families, fitness freaks, thrill seekers, yogis, or anyone curious enough to give it a try. Once ‘on board’, SUP offers a uniquely elevated perspective on the water and is a perfect way to explore secluded, hidden coves and coastlines. With unrivaled ease of use and versatility, SUP is a sport and a lifestyle that keeps you one paddle stroke away from adventures big and small.

BIC SUP ambassadors Carine, Manu and their daughters Lou & Shade, were early (or very early) converts to SUP. They spend their days traveling the planet with boards and paddles, seeking out the most beautiful islands, stunning waves and native cultures: Tuamotu, Marquises, Palau, India, just a few of the destinations logged in their SUP travel diary. Then there are the elite sportsmen and women, including BIC SUPs own Eric Terrien & Chase Kosterlitz. They push themselves to the very limits over long distances in open ocean swells and sprint through marker buoys in the surf zone, attempting to discover their own personal limits and find out just how fast they really are. Followers of a more Zen approach prefer paddling away from the crowds, using their boards as a mobile Yoga mat or personal gym in the search for physical balance. Julie Roach, Nikki Gregg and Jodelle Fitzwater are a few BIC SUP ambassadors who helped pioneer this exciting new discipline. Other enthusiasts appreciate the benefits of compact, portable inflatable boards for sailing and boating adventures as well as convenient air travel. And of course there are the wave riders, constantly searching for the indescribable glide unique to surfing. Surfing on an SUP offers the advantage, and unique challenge, of remaining upright both on the waves and off.

Whether you’re a total beginner, top level pro, zen master or surf seeker, BIC SUP has a full range of boards to suit all skills and all styles. Best of all, the vast majority of our boards are built in France, using environmentally-friendly, non-polluting manufacturing techniques. In the pages that follow you’ll find the new 2015 collection. We’re confident you’ll find a board, and a paddle, that will take you where you’re looking to go.

See you on the water!

Carine, Manu and Lou

RACE-TEC WORLD SERIES

The World Series 12’6 & 14’0 boards are exact replicas of the boards used by Eric Terrien & Chase Kosterlitz for Beach Races, open ocean racing and downwinders. They are perfect for use when conditions get rough and require a board for use on any water surface that is not flat, and requires a board that has a unique balance of speed, acceleration and stability. They are exceptionally fast for catching any small bump or swell when charging down wind. Shaped by Patrice Remoiville and based on feedback from our International riders Eric Terrien & Chase Kosterliz, these boards are characterized by a relatively wide outline from the nose right through to the tail, and a large flat section on the hull of the board. An aluminum based gel coat on the hull makes the board very slippery through the water, and a water resistant varnish on the deck keeps the deck as dry as possible, further increasing speed. All boards are made in France in BIC Sport’s custom production facility, guaranteeing a weight close to the spec + a controlled shape. Attention: For Advanced and Expert paddlers! Lightweight boards in exotic materials require expert care and attention both on and off the water.

BIC SUP Paddles

52

The design and performance of BIC SUP paddle blades is based around three phases of an efficient paddle stroke: The Catch Both the S and ML blade are designed for a smooth entry into the water with minimal splash or blade rotation during entry. This allows the blade to become firmly planted in the water for the second phase of the stroke…

The Pull This is where power is applied from the paddler, to the blade, into the water and is what propels you forward. Keeping the blade slightly narrower and longer than traditional SUP paddle blades gives you several “gears” depending on how deeply you insert the paddle into the water. Together with a slight dihedral in the blade it also reduces cavitation (flutter) for maximum transfer of power from body to blade to water

The Recovery Just as important as the Catch, a clean recovery minimizes power loss and maintains rhythm. BIC SUP paddle blades have minimal ‘curve’ in the blade and a thin profile. This allows the blade to “pop” out of the water at the end of the stroke quickly and cleanly. The thin profile also increases blade performance when feathering the paddle through the water, which is an advanced recovery technique used in many situations, from helping maintain balance to course corrections.

BIC SUP Board Selector

The table below is designed to help you choose the right Stand Up Paddleboard for your size and the type of activities you plan to use your board for. The basic rule is, the heavier the rider, the more board volume and width you will need for a stable ride. However, extra width isn’t always better as a wider board typically has less glide and can be more difficult to paddle properly for a smaller rider. Also, more volume than you need will mean you’re carrying around extra size/weight. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ONE BOARD FOR MANY PEOPLE TO USE, GO WITH ONE OF THE BIGGER SIZE BOARDS. Smaller people can always use a bigger board, but bigger riders won’t be successful on a board that is too small.

Twenty years ago BIC Sport launched the first ever sustainably produced production surfboard, opening the sport and market to tens of thousands of would-be surfers by offering them high-quality, highly durable boards at very reasonable prices. BIC Surfboards are designed by some of the world’s best shapers to guarantee high performance and ease of use. Gerard Dabbadie, a French surf legend, has been instrumental in this philosophy. He immediately understood the unique opportunity to bring his shaping expertise to the widest possible audience with BIC Sport’s unique sustainable manufacturing technologies. These exclusive processes allow for unrivaled consistency, meaning every board precisely matches the designers original shape, every time. Dabbadie is responsible for the majority of boards in the BIC Surf range, including the celebrated 7’3 and 7’9. Recently, the 100,000th 7’3 Mini-Malibu rolled off the production line at the factory in Vannes, France. This highly symbolic event was recognized by the European Surf Industry Association (EuroSIMA), which awarded BIC Sport “Brand of the Year” in 2013. This honor applauds not only this unique milestone, but also BIC Sports unique sustainable manufacturing process and the role BIC Surf products have played in helping make surfing accessible and affordable for more people.

BIC Sport also introduced the “one-design” concept to the surfing world with the BIC Longboard Challenge, a professional-level competition launched in 2001. Today the BIC KID One Design contest circuit for French junior surfers is growing this same concept in amateur surfing and is exploding in popularity.

For 2015 the BIC Surf range continues the evolution of the DURA-TEC boards by introducing the new 7’6 DURA-TEC Mini Nose Rider. This larger sibling of the 7’0 EGG - which was a great success in its first year, is perfect for enjoying the fun nose-riding capability of a longboard, while still being as maneuverable as an EGG board for handling the radical turns and tight carves. All DURA-TEC boards continue to be supplied with traction tail pads to maximize performance and comfort for the rider and adding value to the board. The new G-BOARD 7’0 & 8’0 shapes have also proven a great success for surf schools, with the flatter decks and wider outlines making surfing for the first time easier than ever. As a result we have now applied this new shape to a kids board, the new 6’0 G-BOARD EVO, meaning that kids can progress just as quickly as their parents! Ongoing innovation, while maintaining a consistent product offering that works for all riders, is what continues to make BIC Surf one of the largest single-brand surfboard companies in the world.

NEW 7'6'' Mini Nose Rider

Dura-TEC 7’6’’ MINI NOSE RIDER The new DURA-TEC 7’6 Mini Nose Rider is perfect for enjoying the fun nose-riding capability of a longboard, while still being as maneuverable as an EGG board. Shaped by the legend Gérard Dabbadie from Hossegor, France, this board features a wide nose section, tight rocker profile and concave, and a beveled hull design for easy nose riding; combined with a wide rear section and pronounced V-Shape on the bottom giving the board excellent handling in radical turns and tight carves on the face of the wave. With almost the same volume as a genuine long-board, the board is accessible for all skill levels. Gérard Dabbadie : «This board will appeal to surfers looking for a wide but compact board that’s as easy to paddle out as it is to surf back in. It’s going to give them the true taste of nose-riding more easily than any other board on the market, all on a relatively short board they can push to the limits through carved turns.»

Matahi: ‘‘I was bowled over by the control and comfort on top of the wave, where it pivots on its own axis.’’ There are 3 key elements to consider when purchasing your first surfboard : 1. A shape well-adapted to beginners for catching lots of waves and easy progression. 2. A strong, durable construction that will last a lifetime, and 3. A shape that allows you to progress to the advanced level! Our DURA-TEC Boards meet each of these criteria to a tee.

TAIL PADS : All DURA-TEC Boards now come with tail pads, maximizing your foot grip and control during all manoeuvers and conditions.

Dura-TEC 5’10’’ FISH A short, fat shape with good width in the nose and tail that packs a lot of volume into a small board. Provides stability and buoyancy for learning, allowing easy entry onto the wave. Once the learning is sorted you can quickly progress to the next level, and really carve the board tightly on the rail, particularly in less punchy waves. The ideal first surfboard for kids and an excellent board for good light weight surfers. 5’10’’ x 20.50’’ / 178 x 52cm / 35L Weight range : ≤154lbs / ≤70kg 5'10'' Fish 66

Adrien: “Effortlessly catches waves, and then you can push your bottom turn to the max! To accommodate the needs of more advanced surfers, ACE-TEC surfboards provide shapes that not only suit the intermediate surfer, but also experienced riders who know how to ride a surfboard.

ACE-TEC 7’6’’ PERFORMER A board that is super fun to surf, rapid and precise, giving a real spring under foot. 82

Gérard Dabbadie shaped his first board in 1972. A surf fanatic, he worked first on his own riding style and technique, then used the experience and his contact with the top surfers of the day to start creating his own highly personalized shapes that quickly found favor with many top European riders. In 1975 while based in Hossegor, France (Surf Capital of Europe) he created his signature board brand “Superfrog”, and went on to become a full-time professional shaper. With his philosophy of “shaping easy, fun-to-ride boards, for all kinds of conditions, with no compromise on strength and performance”, Gerard wasn’t content to follow trends of the day. He was among the first to build boards using epoxy resin and EPS foam, at the time a radical departure from the traditional mix of polystyrene foam and polyester resin that was much heavier and less durable. A small detail perhaps, but one that really made his name among the pro surfers of the period. 40 (!) years on, and Gerard is as attentive as ever to the detail of how his boards are made. In addition to nuanced details of board shape and design, which he clearly knows inside-out, what’s behind all the wave-riding fun is an understanding of modern, reliable, 100% faithful manufacturing techniques, so he’s fully confident in the quality and performance of every production boards he designs. Superfrog boards are first pre-shaped using the AKU shaping tool, then hand-finished before being coated with fiberglass and epoxy resin. Two 6 ounce layers of fiberglass on the bottom and two 6 plus one 4 ounce layer on the deck for shortboards, three 6 ounce layers on the longboards. There is no other board on the market that has so many fiberglass layers, and therefore such strength. Even so, Superfrog boards are amazingly light, the result of 30 years of experience using this construction technology and best quality raw materials on the market, plus the passion to make it happen. But for Gerard, it’s all about shaping and surfing, rather than dreaming up marketing spiel : NO BLAH BLAH BLAH, as the man himself would and does say.

SUPERFROG Egg / Fish

Benjamin Pilon SupERfRog Egg / Fish 5’4 NOSE-LESS : A nose-less shape means that you can have the radical performance and manœuverability of a super short board, but the same comfort and ease of use as a 6’4”. The straight rocker line associated with such a large tail also makes this board very fast with excellent planing. No nose, no problem! 5’8 EGG : The width of a longboard + the length of a shortboard = Incredible planing and performance particularly on small and mushy waves. 5’10 RETRO FISH : A classic “vintage” shape with flat rocker, boxy rails and plenty of volume. Twin fin set-up for maximum looseness and a classic feel. 6’4 EGG : A super popular design that mixes ease of paddling, smooth soft turns and versatility. This board surfs where you want it to, and is the perfect all round fun shortboard for anything from knee high to overhead. Fin Set-up all boards (except 5’10 Retro Fish) : Boards supplied with thruster fins for maximum drive, quad fin set-up possible for more speed and looseness.

SUPERFROG Hydro Fish

Matahi Drollet SupERfRog Hydro Fish The 4 Hydro-Fish shortboards all have the same concept : Easy surfing in all conditions. Different sizes allow you to fine tune your choice according to desired performance vs. ease of use. The larger 6’8” & 7’0” boards even give the fun surfing of a mini-mal with the look of a shortboard. A wide pointy nose helps catch waves easily and provide stability in the take offs, while the narrow winger swallow tail gives great drive off the bottom turn and control off the top. Super versatile, these boards will surf in anything, from mush to tubes. Thruster or Quad Fin set-ups allow you to adjust the board further to your style.

SUPERFROG Longboard

SupERfRog Longboard 7’4’’ MINI NOSE RIDER & 8’2’’ SUPER 8 : As wide as a 9’0 Longboard, but only 7’4” or 8’2” long, these boards offer maximum glide and still turn like an Egg. A winger swallow tail on the 8’2” gives extra bite during tight turns. Boards also come with thruster or quad fin set-up. 9’0’’ PERFORMER : An all-round longboard made for modern performance in more powerful waves. Good rocker at the front combined with a subtle concave and progressive lift in the tail make this board extra loose and maneuverable, yet you can still ride it on the nose. A favorite among Hossegor’s longboard locals! 9’2’’ NOSE RIDER : A traditional shape with a deep concave on the front half of the board for maximum glide and nose riding control, combined with a subtle vee in the tail for solid rail-to-rail transitions. Lots of volume positioned evenly throughout the board for a well-balanced ride. 10’0’’ CRUISER : One of the easiest boards to ride, a real cruiser when paddling out, catching waves and while surfing. Precise volume placement means that this board is perfect for the heaviest of riders, as well as those wanting to get the most out of small or soft waves. Surprisingly maneuverable for its length, the Cruiser is a true longboard that will also work great if you end up riding some famous tidal bores. Advanced

In the face of the goldrush towards elitist boards and the seemingly endless models that have appeared since the year 2000, all supplied by manufacturing in the Far East, BIC Sport has opted to do things very differently, concentrating efforts on a more limited range of products, investing heavily in establishing monotype/formula competitions, and by keeping manufacturing base in France, enabling to respond rapidly to the sport’s even more rapidly changing trends, using unique and highly efficient production facility.

The 2015 Windsurf Collection comprises 4 different board series, concentrating on a more limited number of models in each : • The new 240D Techno is the perfect tool for starting windsurfing, a wide, stable and light weight board. • The Nova 240D incorporates features such as the full deck pad; It’s designed for clubs, schools, and for any beginners looking to learn fast and progress quickly on the same board. • With the Beach series, you’ll find the unrivalled strength and solidity of polyethylene construction, combined with imaginative modern shapes, at a price that will suit sailing schools and clubs, and families/friends looking for a robust, durable board to get out for some simple fun on the water. • SUP is the most recent arrival in the BIC Windsurf range. Our two SUP Wind models are the obvious «missing-link» between windsurf and the new paddle sport that is making such a big impact. The 11’6 has been a huge success with families and clubs looking for a quality all purpose board: great for SUP, great for windsurfing.

As for competition activity, BIC Sport has been steering a very different course from its market rivals lately. After winning numerous World Championship titles around and after the year 2000, BIC has turned its attention to establishing monotype competitions, alongside the development of the Techno 293 One Design as the worldwide official competition race board for juniors. This has made Techno 293 OD the most dynamic race class in the world today and a true windsurfing phenomenon.

Learn fast, progress easily, get into regattas and racing, spend time having fun on the water ! The BIC Sport vision of windsurfing is one of the most exciting and affordable way of getting yourself under sail, as long as we keep the whole thing simple. We wish you some unforgettable sessions in 2015 !

TECHNO 293 ONE DESIGN The official worldwide-approved board for Junior Under 17 competitions, the Techno 293 One Design has seen its fleet numbers explode over the last few years. Today, there are more than 9000 Techno 293s sailing somewhere in the world, with a supporting competition program that is constantly growing. The 2014 World Championships, held in Brest in France, drew more than 400 competitors from 35 countries and 6 continents: a windsurfing record. The 2013 European Championships in Torbole were another huge success with 312 competitors. The Techno 293 OD is firmly established in numerous countries now and the 293 scene’s vitality has quickly made it the biggest windsurf fleet on the planet. The Techno 293 OD class launched a new sub-category in 2013, Techno 293 OD+, opening the monotype competition door to older riders/competitors. This format got a big success in Brest and holds a great promise. To break into formula competitions where all equipment is equal, is high quality, is reasonably priced; to enable young riders all round the world to share the same passion, to make new friends and have great fun, the Techno 293 OD is a must ! The Techno 293 OD is the world’s largest windsurfing class

TECHNO 293 OD

Start, progress and race What helped the Techno 293 OD become such a successful Class Racing board

was its general performance and easy control. With a high volume and moderate outline, the Techno 293 OD provides a stable platform for learning to windsurf. A daggerboard provides directional stability and makes sailing upwind a breeze. In light winds, the near 3 m length helps the board really glide through the water, making windsurfing an exciting option in sub-planing conditions. Once the wind gets up, the concave hull helps boost the board onto the plane making for great funboard sailing. Its lightweight and solid construction ensure that performance and durability remain even after intensive use.Competition aside, the Techno 293 OD is ideal for learning and leisure funboarding. This versatility enables clubs to reduce their overheads and equipment costs by having just one board model from learning right through to racing. With high quality fittings it really is a reliable, high performance board, comfortable in all water conditions.

NOVA The new Nova 240 D is geared towards heavier-weight riders or for schools who want a stable, light, big volume board, and fitted with a retractable daggerboard. This board is also great for progressing on, thanks to its relatively moderate length, its reduced weight and forward footstrap positions. It is made using the thermoformed composite technology and is as a result much lighter than those of the competition. The Nova 240 D is fitted with an integral pad for a totally anti-skid surface which also helps protect the rider in case of falls. There’s no better board to learn how to windsurf!

BEACH The Beach boards have been designed with sailing schools in mind, to offer them strong, practical and modern equipment. They are made using the technology already applied to BIC Sport kayaks and surfboards: the outer skin is in polyethylene, the same as that of BIC Sport kayaks, whose solidity is wellknown, and the core of the boards is made of the same high-density polyurethane foam that is also inside the BIC DURA-TEC surfboards. Both Beach boards offer particularly good stability as well as being easy to handle, so that beginners can start to learn various moves. A new EVA foam pad, very hard-wearing, comfortable and anti-skid covers the deck. Both boards come with a retractable daggerboard that is solid and easy to handle.

BIC KAYAKS Design & Technology

As a leading specialist in board and water sports, we’ve designed a range of high-performance, aesthetically pleasing kayaks that are as durable as they are innovative : imaginative hull designs, fast and stable ride, thermoformed polyethylene construction produced in France, ergonomically designed cockpits and seats, top quality fittings and fixtures, every possible care has been taken to ensure you get maximum pleasure from your time on the water. Various BIC Sport kayaks have been recognised with awards from the influential «Observateur du Design» magazine for their overall design, innovative features, and the environmental considerations behind their manufacturing/construction technology.

Abrasion protector

All the integral production fittings of BIC Sport kayaks are top quality to guarantee durability and paddle comfort • Foam seat pads = improved paddle comfort • Rubber-coated front and rear carry handles = easy carrying on land • Protective rear bumper = protection from knocks and easy launching • Removable rear trolley wheels (Java/Borneo) or casters (Bilbao and Tobago) = easier transportation on land • Life lines = easy to climb back on board • Elasticated straps = simple, secure storage for bags and water bottles • Storage net = stores your essential equipment within easy reach 114

Removable rear trolley wheels (Java/Borneo)

SUPER SOLID BUILD QUALITY TST - Twin Sheet Technology : The exclusive Twin Sheet technology used in the construction of BIC Sport kayaks is acheived by using thermoformed Polyethylene sheets. The deck and hull sections are formed and sealed together in one single operation. The result of this fusion is incredibly durable, unique in kayak manufacture. The join line is invisible and 100% secure. This process, creating a product that is lighter, stronger and smoother finished than rotomoulding, is also anti-UV treated. Highly resistant to knocks and scratching, it gives all BIC Sport kayaks exceptional durability.

HIGH PERFORMANCE HULL DESIGN The THD (Triple Hull Design) shape was conceived to provide excellent glide and to give great manoeuvrability, while retaining maximum stability. The special shape of our hulls was inspired by trimaran construction, and features a large central section (1) with narrow water channels to optimise glide, and two outer hull sections (2) that give the boat stability without slowing its forward speed. The two resultant concave sections (3) help improve the overall performance.

3

Rubber-coated carry handles ERGONOMIC SEATING The seat ergonomics of the entire BIC Sport kayak range have been specially developed to ensure optimum paddle comfort. • Flat back rest inclined towards the rear at the bottom to prevent the pelvis from being pushed forwards. This also relaxes the legs, relieving pressure against the foot rests. • Centre of gravity set low down for improved stability, but above the flotation line so that the bottom of the seats stays dry.

BIC KAYAKS SIT-ON-TOP

BEACH

DEVELOPED & PRODUCED IN FRANCE

BEACH Stable, designed to be simple and affordable, the BEACH series kayaks are the gateway kayaks for our Sit-On-Top range, the easiest way to get out and have fun on the water while you’re at the beach. They are made to BIC Sport’s usual high standards, and their deck and cockpit design make them easy to use and very well suited to family and group activities. The Trinidad and Kalao models can be fitted with a small motor.

OUASSOU

* The Ouassou is designed as a versatile and manoeuvrable kayak ideal for beach fun. The stern handles let you hang on

to body drag and allow easy access on board. The Ouassou also handles surf and waves comfortably due to the ‘spatula’ shaped hull and the three hull inserts, enabling a set of fins (available separately as an accessory) to be fitted for better tracking. Its compact form and light weight make this a kayak that is easy to manoeuvre, transport and store.

TRINIDAD

* The Trinidad is a kayak purpose-built for leisure : compact, able to seat two adults and a child, it’s highly versatile and

stable, making it suitable for all kinds of situations. For family outings, its ergonomic seats and stability are reassuring. For more serious paddling and exploring, solo or two-up, its very low draught, innovative hull design and wide rear storage area are really useful for getting can be fitted with a small electric motor to give it even more possibilities.

KALAO

* The Kalao is quite the 4x4 of the kayak world. It is equally at ease on the sea, rivers or simply having fun on any stretch

of water. The largely flat hull design with very little water draught is very stable and enables the kayak to go almost anywhere. It makes it simple for a family of two adults and two children to all ride together in complete comfort and safety. This is also a true 3 (adult) person Sit-On-Top, with 3 proper ergonomic seats and a wide rear storage area. Two other advantages of the Kalao : it’s unsinkable, and it can be adapted to take a small electric motor.

BIC KAYAKS INFLATABLE

WEEKEND EXCURSION / TOURING

WEKKEND EXCURSION / TOURING The principle behind these highly innovative inflatables lies in their use of multiple materials to help reduce weight, plus the use of a keel and bottom section inflated to high pressure to give the hull a superbly efficient V shape. Result : the YAKKAir HP and Nomad HP are light weight and high performance boats with the advantage of pack-down and storage into a compact carry bag. This means you can get to further flung and less accessible spots much more easily.

YAKKAir HP1 & HP2

The YAKKAir HP range is a true revolution in inflatable kayaks with the combination of a keel and a

high-pressure inflatable hull/floor to maximise the V shape and with it the kayak’s overall performance. YAKKAir HP kayaks are lighter, perform better and give a more comfortable ride than conventional inflatable kayaks. Wind drag/resistance is reduced and they are easier to steer at sea, giving them a performance equal to that of existing rigid designs. The YAKKAir HP1 & HP2 come equipped with backrests and footrests. YAKKAir HP kayaks can be fitted with flexible deck cover to keep splash water out, without any hindrance to movement or safety.

NOMAD HP1 & HP3

The Nomad HPs use the same concept that was so successful on the YAKKAir HP,

with a high pressure inflatable keel and bottom section of the hull, together creating a dynamic and high performance hull shape, all at a feather weight and giving an excellent paddle position. As for performance, the Nomad HP benefits from a higher bow section, extended length, and a flexible decking system giving better internal protection. With its innovative decking system, the Nomad HP3 is a true sea kayak, ideal for longer double paddling excursions, and featuring a large storage area for carrying equipment. It also makes it more viable for the more challenging conditions you find in cooler seasons. Take out the decking and the HP3 becomes a vast, stable, top-performing family 3-seater. The Nomad HP1 is a solo kayak with the same features as the HP3 (higher bow section, flexible decking...) giving you the same level of paddle-comfort and protection for more extended solo trips. The Nomad HP1 & HP3 come equipped with backrests and footrests.

Its other major pluses : a sizeable flat rear storage area and an integral roller system. And it’s very simple to convert to a sea kayak.

YAKKAir HP2 The YAKKAir HP2 Fishing is carried in a wheeled back-pack for easy transport, whether you’re on foot or by car. It only takes a few minutes to set up and is ideal for reaching difficult fishing spots. Its high-pressure keel and high-pressure floor with their solid PVC skin form a highly-efficient V shape hull. Lighter but as powerful and comfortable as a rigid Sit-On-Top kayak, the YAKKAir HP2 Fishing can also be fitted with a protective canvas cover. It is made from sturdy material that will withstand potential damage from fishing hooks. The YAKKAir HP2 can also be used for solo kayaking, leaving lots of room for all your fishing gear. 132

For more than 8 years, a wind of change has been what the O’pen BIC has brought to the world of dinghy sailing for kids. Designed specifically for kids, the O’pen BIC is a true glide machine for real excitement on the water. The O’pen BIC, with its modern and powerful rig, is a fast boat, quick to respond, self-bailing, and is fitted by the best marine hardware manufacturers. The O’pen BIC is THE link between the Optimist generation and the new generation of sailing dinghies. Launched in 2006, the O’pen BIC has already convinced more than 6000 young sailors around the world. They love the fun they can get out of it, its capacity to react fast and its prowess. An ISAF international class is also very active for those who enjoy competitive racing. Racing enthusiasts benefit from an energetic international ISAF Class and from the motivation of many national federations who have selected the O’pen BIC for their clubs. This enthusiasm and appeal for the boat can be witnessed from the success of the last World Cups on lake Garda in Italy and in Travemünde in Germany and from the many regattas that are organized every season around the world. In certain instances, some regattas at national level were able to organize very innovative race formats. The UN Regatta in the United States of America and in Australia are the best example: they put together a cocktail of ingenious freestyle sessions as well as more standard-type regattas, all in a very festive atmosphere… The young racers really enjoyed!

For fun, recreation, perfection & racing

The hull of the O’pen BIC was designed with fun sailing as the priority. It is a modern boat where the hull is as open as possible, thereby leaving the helmsman completely free to move around and trim the boat to any wind and water conditions. When hiking, the large sides allow the sailor to set-up comfortably with his/her feet in the straps without placing any unnecessary stress on the body. The totally open and sloping cockpit means that there is absolutely no water in the boat either during sailing or just after a capsize. A relatively hard chine design was chosen for the bottom shape of the hull. Used by numerous modern boat architects, this design offers an excellent compromise between performance and stability. When reaching or broad-reaching, the boat accelerates quickly to planing speed. When close-reaching, the boat sets on its chine and has excellent performance up wind. The hull includes integrated carry handles for easy launching into the water and easy transport.

High quality rigs

The rig includes a fully-battened, 4.5m² mono-film sail with mast pocket, similar to that of a windsurf sail. Rigged on an epoxy mast, the sail has been designed with an open leech to give sailors maximum control and performance in windy conditions. The Cunningham tackle (6 threads + cleat) associated with the boom vang / boom safety attachment, allows sailors to trim efficiently the tension of the sail. The 3.8 m² dacron sail has been designed for clubs and can be rigged on the same mast and boom as the 4.5 m² monofilm rig.

The O’pen BIC breaks away from "Classic Sailing"

o’pEN BIC International Class The aim of the International O’pen BIC Class is to provide an exciting format of international and national dinghy sailing for young sailors. The steady annual growth of the Events’ Calendar is proof that the Class’s formula of providing exciting race formats on an attractive boat is a great success. At present there are over 10 countries that have regular event calendars of national competitions, and the international World O’pen Cup is the pinnacle each year. The O’pen Cup event style is very original, with some highly innovative courses and race rules derived from funboarding, where races are short and quick, the course changes regularly and can include crosswind legs and freestyle moves or an adventure race, and protests are judged immediately out on the water so no racing time or effort is wasted! These improvements are in line with ISAF’s Introductory Rules of Sailing, and are quite a break from the last 40 years of «classic» sailing. O’pen Cups are a cocktail of fun and pure regatta racing, great for motivating our young sailors and keeping them hooked for life! More information on the Class rules and on the various regattas worldwide can be found on the Class website.
