Welcome Cattlemen and women . . . . . On behalf of Lockhart Valley Simmentals, welcome to our 13th Annual Bull Sale. This year has brought a big change to our sale as Beagle Simmentals (Chad and Michelle) have dispersed their purebred herd and purchased the old feed store in Rimbey. We wish them all the best in their new endeavour. Jenna Olson of Silvertop Simmentals has four black bulls on offer and Darryl and Sharon Williams of Beaverhead Ranches have two excellent bulls for sale.

Lockhart Valley has five new sire groups for you to evaluate. Our pen of Fullbloods is outstanding with the lead-off bulls being sired by LHVS Charles 29C, our high seller two years ago going to Rendezvous Farms from Manitoba. Three new black sires, LHVS Secret Affair 42C, LHVS Burnt Sugar 69C and LFE The Riddler. A powerful new red sire, Wheatland Killswitch will surely impress. As always we have some LHVS 64A A.K.A. “The Dink” sons on offer. This years offering has calving ease bulls that will work on heifers, cow bulls that will add pounds to your calves weaning weights and a combination of both to varying degrees. The bulls are housed in a large pen that gives them the freedom to get exercise. They are fed a TMR ration consisting of corn sileage, 3 lbs oats, second cut hay and 10 lbs pellets. We realize that a bull is a very large investment and we want the bulls to go out and breed, not snooze in the pasture. It definitely is satisfying to hear of bulls we’ve sold last 6, 7, 8 years or longer still breeding. That is our goal, to not just sell you one bull, but many bulls over many years. If you are unable to attend the sale, we will be again be broadcasting the sale online with DLMS to view and bid at your convenience. If you feel more comfortable having a representative place your bids please feel free to contact Lee, Darryl, Danny or Barry. Their contact numbers are on the following page. Keep in mind the bulls will be on display the day before the sale. If you would like to see the bulls at anytime please give us a call and we’ll put the coffee on. Consider this your invitation to join us on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Lockhart Valley Ranch for a catered lunch at 11:30 am and the sale at 1:00 pm. Thank-you, Lee, Tina, and Hannah Robson

LHVS CHARLES 29C
15-Jan-15
Horned Fullblood
March 5, 2016 sale day, never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that LHVS Charles 29C would sell for what he did. There are certain milestones in a purebred breeders life that you hope will happen. We’ve achieved more than most. Lockhart Valley has been around since 1989 and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished. I’d say that selling Charles to the good folks of Rendezvous Farms in Manitoba was a highlight. Last spring it was with great anticipation that we waitied for our first Charles calves. As Hannah stated in Mancrushes footnotes, he did not disappoint. We registered every calf we got out of him, there were no throwaways. His sons are color patterned after him, most have length and extra muscle mass. Charle’s daughters are feminine with the same color patterning, deep sided and thick. Everyone is blessed with his hair coat (lots of hair) and great temperaments. I’m not going to go on and on about him. Hannah’s described his sons pretty well. So I’ll let you decide for yourselves. Look them over and contemplate whether any of them could make your herd more exciting . . . I think you’ll say yes.

CRUSH 57E
Horned Fullblood
What can a person write about Mancrush? Let me first talk about his sire, Charles. Big bodied, hairy, with a ton of eye appeal. As a yearling, Charles had that complete herd sire presence about him. We were hoping to get calves out of him that would follow suit to his style . . . boy . . . we were not disappointed. Mancrushes name says a lot about him. His pedigree goes back to some greats. Anchor “T” Rusty, Jahari & Anchor “T” Legend. Mancrush does not miss a beat with his rock solid feet. He’d be sure to add hair, easy going disposition, fleshing and overall style to his offspring. LHVS 57E’s maternal brother went to Gord Scarlett at last years sale. Mancrushe’s picture doesn’t do his color any justice. He’s so dark red that by the time he’s mature he’ll almost appear black. Of all the Charles sons, we feel that Mancrush would make a breeders bull. Cow Bull Lockhart Valley resrves the right to draw semen on LHVS 57E for in herd use.

Mr. Opportunity suits this calf to a T. Another Charles son that will offer a lot of performance. He is the epitome of moderate framed. As this calf gets older, his hair coat is getting darker and darker. Wide hoof base, large testicles and an extremely good disposition. We feel breeder to breeder that Mr. Opportunity is an opportunity that needs to be seized and utilized. Diluter test pending. Cow Bull.

Horned Fullblood
Looking to add extra pounds onto your steers? Maybe even wanting to add a little frame to your moderate cows. Look no further, this calf should do just that. With extreme length, a big set of testicles, easy fleshing & big feet underneath him. This Charles son should not disappoint any cowboy. Zeke is easy to handle. We’ve registered seven calves out of 31E’s dam. She’s not a real “beauty queen” but she sure can produce. Diluter test pending. Cow Bull.

LHVS 28E is another Charles son that did not disappoint. He has extreme length & wicked body depth. Another deep red calf with wrap around googles. It’s hard to beat a calf that checks off a lot of the boxes. Big testicles, wide hoof, free moving & quiet. LHVS Mr. Lockhart 28E is not registered because of a missed DNA test many, many moons ago. Someone will take advantage of this error on my part and get a fantastic calf. Diluter test pending. Cow Bull.

Lots of great bulls are in Emmett’s pedigree. Legend, Double Bar D Lincoln, Houston and Arni 8M. This Charles son has changed the most since weaning. LHVS 48S is still producing at the age of 12 years. Although we only registered 4 calves out of 48S the others were steered not because of production, (she consistently weans 850 lb plus steer calves) they were steered for one reason or another. Emmett has a big square hoof and travels out smoothly. Good body depth and flank on him. Large testicles complete the package. Diluter test pending. Cow Bull.

Wheatland Killswitch was the high selling purebred in the spring of 2016 at a whopping $210,000. We are part of the semen syndicate on him. His physical self was purchased by Curtis Simmentals in Saskatchewan. We drove all the way to Bow Valley Genetics at Brooks to look at Killswitch and we were not disappointed. A nice moderate sized yearling bull that moved freely on big feet. Nice small head and smooth through his body. Excellent temperament on him, let us move him, around easily in a pen. He gave us more heifers than bulls. We have three bulls for your appraisal. His calves come easy and are small at birth. To tell you the truth we were a little disappointed but by grass were were singing a different tune as those little buggers turned on the “growth” switch and changed our mind. Three sons on offer. You pick which one will work for you. I bet you can’t decide.

LFE 323B - Sire
A couple of years ago we purchased three embryos from Rainbow River Simmentals. They were LFE The Riddler 323B X Blacksand Linette 823U. We ended up with two beautiful heifers and one bull calf. Riddle Me This has a ton of middle. He travels around the pen freely on big feet. Great hair coat and large testicles complete the package. His picture does not do him any justice. Cow Bull. Hetero-Polled. Homo-Black.

Everyone knows “The Dink” or LHVS 64A. He’s been one of the best heifer bulls we’ve ever used and not just because we raised him. The only time we’ve ever helped a heifer bred to him is if the calf was coming the wrong way. We have decided to sell LHVS 64A to some very good friends and breeders at Silvertop Simmentals. Now we’ll have a few sons in next years sale, so look over these few we have on offer this year. I think you’ll like what you see.

Prairie Blackberry 12E is a neat little dude. His sire “the Dink” always throws such stylish bull calves. Blackberry has a neat blaze face. His ears got nipped by frost when he was a baby (mom or another calf licked his ears) but they aren’t the business end of a bull. Blackberry’s dam is an Anchor “T” Impact first calver. With a 90 lb birth weight, this youngster should work on second calvers or even mature cows if you are worried about calving ease. Cow Bull.

He’s just a smooth, well put together bull. Not a heifer bull but if you breed your second calvers to an easier calving cow bull Razuli could be the bull for you. Cow Bull. Homo-Polled.

Another notorious “Dink” son. This bull calf has eye appeal with his liver red hair coat & stylish head. He is moderate framed with big solid feet to back him. It is not often that we recommend bulls for heifers, but we are confident that this fella would work. As a yearling heifer, we flushed his mother to Jenkins & we’re fortunate to get a beautiful daughter that is in our replacement pen.

LHVS Digby is out of a LFE Stubby cow. Stubby cows aren’t very tall but they do have a wide base. Lots of milk in Digby’s dam. Digby has loads of hair, small head set nicely into his shoulders, with big feet and large testicles. LHVS 94E’s steers should push the scale down and his daughters should make excellent replacements. With not much bone in this calf Digby should work well on heifers.

Sidekick is solid red with a blaze face. I can imagine the job he’d d on Red Angus based cows, Hereford based cows and even Charolais based cows. Silvertop simmentals
Welcome to the 2018 edition of the Lockhart Valley Simmentals Bull sale. I would like to thank Lee, Tina and Hannah Robson of Lockhart Valley Simmentals for inviting me to participate in the sale once again this year. I would also like to thank Peter Knight, Rick Glanfield, Garth & Marla Titford, Ed Bajema and Scarlett Livestock for purchasing either a bull or heifer from me at last years sale. This year I have consigned 4 bulls to the sale. This will be my 5th year selling bulls, I am very proud of these boys, and feel that they will work well for just about anyone. Just like in the years past, my bulls have been fed and housed with Lockhart’s bulls from the day they are weaned until sale day. They are on a full herd health program and are fed a ration of corn sileage, Wetaskiwin bull pellets and oats. Please feel free to call anytime to discuss any questions you may have regarding the bulls on offer. If for any reason you cannot make it to the sale you can view it online through DLMS.ca. Good luck with your 2018 calving season and I hope to see you at the sale!

With a birthweight of 83 pounds, a picture perfect polled head and a moderate frame, Energizer should give smaller birthweights while still putting lots of performance into his calves. His dam is a first calf heifer that goes back to Hooks Shear Force and his sire is Lockhart Valleys proven heifer bull, LHVS 64A. This bull is very eye appealing and thus anyone looking for a calving ease bull should take a hard look at this guy on sale day.

Eberle has been a favourite of mine since day one. He may not be the biggest bull in the pen, but has tremendous confirmation. This bulls dam is the definition of a mother cow, she has a heart that is 3 times her size and puts absolutely everything she has into her calves. Eberle has a very good hair coat and adequate testicles for his size. This stylish bull would work wonders for a commercial cattleman, and sire very showy heifers and steers.

Edge of Glory is one of the more powerful bulls that I have consigned to the sale this year. He is a full brother to “Silvertop Duramax” that sold in last years sale, to Garth and Marla Titford. This bulls dam is an absolute powerhouse. She is a dark red, fullblood cow, that goes back to one of my grandpa’s favourite bulls, SU Jenkins. She definitely has longevity built into her and keeps producing fantastic bull calves year after year. This bull is a nice mix of purebred and fullblood genetics and has the kind of feet that will last forever.

Up All Night is a classy looking bull that I have become very fond of. This guy is solid black with a white heart on his head to give him his own unique touch. He has great testicle development, lots of muscle and a good temperament which seems to be a trait his sire passes along to his calves. This bull goes back to a Jenkins fullblood cow that has one of the nicest udders on the farm. Needless to say, he should sire excellent milking replacement heifer calves, that would work great for any commercial breeder.
